Round 1 TOR(smozoma) v WPG(sebe) - Season 2

smozoma

Recommended Posts

In the two regular season games between these teams, Winnipeg came out on top, by scores of 9-8 OT and 5-4. The 9-8 games was one of the most absurd I've ever played in, scoring 7 goals on my first 7 shots.. before blowing the 7-4 lead in the 3rd period...

Anyway, on to the playoffs series. Here's the video for game 1:

Scoring Summary:

http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore_new.asp?gameid=747

Summary:

Both teams started off shaky, blowing breakaway chances. Roberts(TOR) made his presence known early, knocking Gartner(WPG) cup over bucket in the first minute, and then stealing a goalie pass (neither time coming up with a goal..).

Gartner picks up a Goaltender Interference penalty with 92 seconds left in the first period, and Anderson(WPG) scores a shorthanded goal, assisted by Kamensky.

The Jets take 2 more penalties in a row, and Rod Langway(TOR) ties it up with a powerplay goal, assisted by Yzerman.

With a minute left in the 2nd period, Roberts and Oates get a 2-on-0 break, and Roberts holds it and dekes out Beaupre for a 2-1 lead. 41 seconds later, Oates passes to Roberts who onetime's it in by the post, 3-1 for Toronto.

A minute into the 3rd period, Roberts knocks Gartner over again, but passes it away to Russ Courtnall(WPG), who catches Gartner trailing the play with a pass for a one-timer goal, bringing WPG back to within 1.

Yzerman restores Toronto's 2-goal lead 22 seconds later on a one-timer from Oates (his 3rd assist of the game).

After WPG takes an icing with ~90 seconds left, Gartner wins a faceoff back to Weinrich, who rushes the entire length of the ice and straight into a crowd of 3 blue shirts in front of the net. He somehow gets off a weak wrister that hits Hrudey's blocker and deflects into the net to bring WPG back within 1 goal with 1:11 left in the 3rd period. Classic Hrudey.

Toronto wins the next faceoff, but you can see the pressure is getting to them, as they miss about 4 passes in a row, but luckily still manage to recover the puck each time before finally losing it with 35 seconds left. Who else should end up with the puck, but Mike Gartner, who makes a bee-line for the net, but can't get through the 3 leafs in his way and is forced to shoot right into the gut of a sprawling Hrudey. The puck bounces right back to Gartner, who winds up for a big backhand shot, but Hrudey jumps back to his feet just in time to have another shot bounce off his chest protector with 19 seconds to go. In their panic, the Leafs' Roberts takes a penalty and Winnipeg gets a faceoff right in front of Hrudey 15 seconds on the clock. Yzerman wins the faceoff, and Langway sends the puck down the ice to Beaupre, who picks it up and fires it back the other way. It nails Gartner in the face, he topples to the ground, and the final buzzer sounds. Toronto takes game 1 by a score of 4-3.

Roberts, the Leafs' whipping boy the whole season (6 goals in 17 games), takes first star honours with 2 goals, 1 assist, 4 shots, and 4 checks (at least two of which were on Gartner). Oates and Yzerman take the 2nd and 3rd star.

Game 2!

You can switch it to 480p quality

Game Summary: http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore.asp?gameid=748

GAME 2

Toronto surprisingly leads the series 1-0 after 1 game.

Toronto keeps game 1 first star Gary Roberts in the game, hoping he can continue his strong play. If Toronto wants to win this series, Roberts will be key, since he's the only forward with the checking power to contain Gartner.

FIRST PERIOD

Before you can blink, Russ Courtnall scores 2 goals off the 2 first faceoffs, in Carse-ian fashion.

Toronto takes a timeout, and then immediate responds with 2 goals, tying up the game (one on an end-to-end rush by Tinordi, and the other of a 3-pass play between Roberts and Yzerman.

Not to be outdone, Courtnall comes back and restores the lead, 3-2. 5 shots, 5 goals. This is looking like the first game between these two teams in the regular season.

Hrudey makes the first save of the game, but then is beaten by a Gartner one-timer. 4-2 Winnipeg.

Roberts runs into Beaupre, but Winnipeg scores with 1 second to go, negating the penalty.

SECOND PERIOD

Down 5-2, Toronto makes some line changes, putting Roberts at centre and moving Yzerman to the wing.

Roberts scores his second goal of the game not too long after, 5-3 Winnipeg.

30 seconds later, Oates and Yzerman combine on a nice give and go play to bring Toronto back to within 1 goal, 5-4.

Both goalies make nice breakaway saves, and then with 30 seconds to go in the 2nd period, we get the first desynch of the series.

THIRD PERIOD

Simming the game back to the point of desynch, Winnipeg's Glenn Anderson takes a penalty, but the coaches decide to play on. Considering that Toronto only had 2 more PPG than SHGA and Winnipeg is winning, the penalty is unlikely to affect the outcome of the game.

In the 3rd period, Winnipeg scores with 34 seconds left in the penalty, so the gamble pays off.

2:15 to go, Gartner gets another one-timer goal, putting the Jets up 7-4.

Russ Courtnall picks up a penalty, giving the Leafs a chance to get back into the game, but they're unable to make anything happen, and the game ends 7-4 (though both goalies make nice breakaway saves before the final buzzer sounds).

Stars of the game:

Russ Courtnall 4-1-5

Mike Gartner 3-2-5

Steve Yzerman 1-3-4

Game 3!

Make sure to switch to 480p

Game Summary: http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore.asp?gameid=749

GAME 3:

The series moves to Toronto for game 3, tied 1-1.

FIRST PERIOD

The Leafs take a penalty 13 seconds into the game, Rod Langway going off for Charging. The Leafs do some nice passing in the Jets' zone, but Beaupre comes up with a nice save.

Yzerman saves a goal with his face just before the penalty expires.

Beaupre continues to make great one-timer saves by the posts.

The Leafs' Oates take another penalty with under a minute to go.

SECOND PERIOD

The Jets steal the puck a couple times, and then Gartner opens the scoring on a one-timer. 1-0 WPG.

Roberts DESTROYS Russ Courtnall trying to go around behind the net, resulting in a few chances for the Leafs, but the Jets hold them off.

Tinordi takes the Leafs' 3rd penalty of the game. Gartner misses a wide open net after Hrudey dives and misses the puck. Not much later, Gartner goes the length of the ice and dekes out Hrudey to make it 2-0 WPG.

THIRD PERIOD

A minute in, Gartner completes the natural hat trick on another one-timer.

9 seconds later, he adds a fourth! 4-0

The Leafs put Roberts back at centre to see if they can spark anything in the remaining 3:51 of the game.

Gartner narrowly misses the net on a huge slapper.

Great save by Beaupre on a breakaway, diving out and knocking over Langway.

Weinrich then mugs Yzerman and takes a penalty with 95 seconds left.

Gartner grazes the post with yet another slapper, but Richardson comes up with the rebound, dekes Hrudey out of his pads, and slides it in to expand the lead to 5-0.

With 13 seconds left, Yzerman bowls over a Jets defender, stealing the puck and breaking the goose egg. Too little too late, as the Jets take this one by a convincing 5-1 margin.

SERIES: 2-1 Jets

Stars:

Gartner (4-0-4)

Richardson (1-1-2)

Courtnall (0-2-2)

Series Totals:

Gartner leads in goals, Oates leads in assists, and Hrudey barely stops half the shots. The universe is as it should be.

480p-icize!

Game Summary: http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore.asp?gameid=750

GAME 4

The Jets lead the series 2 games to 1, and as Don Cherry says, "the winner of game 4 wins the series," so this game is critical for both teams.

Leafs ponder putting Roberts at centre, but keep him on the wing.

Jets play Kamensky for a change, leaving Anderson on the bench.

FIRST PERIOD

Langway takes a penalty 35 seconds in. Looking like a repeat of the last game where the Leafs got in penalty trouble early.

Nice spin move by Kamensky before passing off to Gartner for yet another onetimer goal, 1-0 lead early for the Jets.

Langway decides to make up for the penalty and rushes up the ice, but is stoned by Beaupre on the deke.

Hrudey elbows Gartner to the ground, then sends Yzerman in on a breakway. He sends a pass-shot off Beaupre's right toe to close out the first period.

SECOND PERIOD

Roberts hasn't been effective in this game, so the Leafs replace him with speedster Bykov.

Kamensky and his big shot are also subbed off for the quicker Anderson.

The Jets are robbed on 2 shots (one gets through Hrudey buts hits a defender behind him, and on the other, Courtnall appears to catch his own shot before it goes in), but then Gartner gets a breakaway and sinks a backhander to make it 2-0.

The Ltry 2 more passshots, but miss the net on both, one resulting in a goal by Anderson on a big slapper. 3-0 Jets.

Langway takes yet another penalty with 1:28 left in the 2nd.

Yzerman and Oates play hot potato and Yzerman somehow onetimes one in from the middle of 3 Jets players, bringing hope back into the home crowd. 3-1.

THIRD PERIOD

After a big Hrudey save on a Gartner slapper, Lyle Odelein grabs the rebound and feeds Yzerman with a breakaway pass, and Yzerman makes the pass-shot work this time, grazing the inside of the left post past Beaupre's blocker for his second goal of the game. 3-2 WPG.

Moments later, history repeats itself as Gartner is stoned on another slapper, Odelein grabs the rebound and sends it to Yzerman for yet another breakaway, and he makes the same pass-shot, beating Beaupre, who this time is pre-emptivly stacking the pads. Probably should have been a save, as the puck appears to go under his stacked pads somehow. All tied up, 3-3. Natural hat trick for Yzerman.

YET ANOTHER breakaway for Yzerman, but this time he goes for a forehand deke and is stuffed by Beaupre. Yzerman and the D chasing him bowl into Beaupre who is pushed behind the net, and somehow Yzerman comes up with the puck, spins around to get his stick and the puck above the goal line, and pots it in the vacant cage. Leafs take the lead 4-3 on 4 straight Yzerman goals. The crowd goes absolutely berzerk with a banshee wail.

Yzerman gets a 5th breakaway, but his pass-shot just misses the left post.

With 2 minutes to go, Oates sets up Yzerman for his 5th goal of the game.

This time Bykov gets a breakaway, and he sends a pass shot over Beaupre's left shoulder to break the game wide open, 6-3.

Yzerman, with a minute to go, gets in alone again, but this time threatens for the cross-crease, but spins and puts it in the short side as Beaupre attempts to block the cross-crease. 7-3 Leafs, with 58 seconds to go.

Yzerman very nearly gets another goal with time winding down, but it mercifully ends 7-3.

Series: Tied 2-2

Holy smokes, what a game if you are a Leafs fan. Down 3-1 going into the 3rd period, coach smozoma channels swos and scores 3 breakaway pass-shot goals, and 3 more goals for 6 total in the period. This win gives Toronto a lot of momentum going into game 5.

3 Stars:

Yzerman 6-0-6

Gartner 2-0-2

Oates 0-2-2

(actually Hrudey should have been the 2nd star, since he had 3 assists and put up a respectable .667 save percentage)

Bug discovered: if you score on a breakaway with a pass-shot, the game doesn't give you a breakaway goal. Toronto was 0/6 on breakaways in this game, in the game summary, but were probably actually 4/6.

Series Totals

Yzerman catches Gartner in points and gets his second GWG.

Tinordi is pulling away with the checking lead.

Game 5!

Game Summary: http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore.asp?gameid=751

GAME 5:

The Leafs go with Bykov in place of Roberts this game, hoping to continue the domination displayed in the 6-goal 3rd period of game 4.

FIRST PERIOD

Bykov gets a chance right away, but Beaupre sprawls and makes a save on the goal line.

Tinordi gets a penalty shot and... passes it backwards.

2 minutes pass before Courtnall slips a onetimer under Hrudey's right leg to open the scoring, 1-0 Jets.

The Jets continue to press, until Oates picks up a free puck, skates the length of the ice, and throws a shot into the top corner.

Then, with 11 seconds left, Oates, who hadn't scored until this game, adds his second of the series.

SECOND PERIOD

The Jets aren't phased by the sudden lead change and score one 24 seconds in, Gartner on a one-timer from Courtnall. 2-2.

Richardson lays out a Leaf player with a cross check and takes a penalty. Beaupre, soon after the ensuing faceoff, gives away the puck to Bykov, but he hesitates a fraction of a second too long, and Beaupre is able to scramble to the front of the net and block the shot.

The first injury of the series happens when Oates connects a solid shoulder to Uwe Krupp's head, sending him out for the game. Oates is playing for keeps tonight.

Nearing the end of the period, yzerman strips a Jet of the puck, slips by a defender, and then sends a pass-shot in on net, but Beaupre blocks it easily. The period ends tied 2-2.

THIRD PERIOD

Oates completes the hat trick on a goal similar to his first one, giving the Leafs the lead, 3-2.

Half-way through the period, Hrudey makes a stellar save on another Gartner one-timer. The Jets could easily be up 5 or 6-3 at this point, if not for Hrudey.

The teams exchange breakaways, but the score stays the same.

Both teams get a couple more chances, but in the dying seconds, Bykov covers Gartner effectly, preventing a dangerous one-timer, and the Leafs get the puck and send it down the ice to finish out the game. Final score: 3-2, the same score as the series.

SERIES SCORE: 3-2 Toronto

THREE STARS

Oates (3-0-3)

Courtnall (1-1-2)

Gartner (1-0-1)

I would argue (again) that Hrudey should have been a star, although this time actually for his goaltending, not his assists (though he did have one!). If not for him and his 10 saves on 12 shots, many of which would normally have gone in, the Jets would easily have won this game.

In every game the Leafs have won in this series, one player did most of the damage. Roberts in game 1, Yzerman in game 4, and now Oates in game 5. With Roberts on the bench for these past two wins, maybe Bykov can be the next Maple Leafs hero and close out the series?

A look at the goaltending stats shows just how close this series is. After 5 games, the teams are separated by just 2 shots and 1 goal.

Did you expect differently on the older games, Smoz? Even with the last NHL 16-bit console games, goalies only have the First Star when they get a shutout, so unless you get %.970 on saves and replicate Ron Tugnutt's performance on the Bruins, they don't even get 3rd Star after games. =P

Yeah, the game checks to see if they have a .950 or better save percentage. Tugnutt actually had "just" a .959 in that game you're talking about :).

I actually have a hack to make the game use a 90% cutoff.. maybe even 80-85% would be appropriate, considering that a typical save percentage is 65% in these leagues. I want to learn a bit more about the 3-star selection before releasing that hack, though, to make sure it'll give nice results...

But mostly, with Hrudey's recent performance in your game 5, At the very least his % is .888, so that may have not been enough for the Third Star, it seems.

I think that it's a little hard to get that achievement in shorter games.

he was .833.

other than for a shutout, i think the game only gives out a star if the goalie gets 0.950 or higher, which is next to impossible -- 1 goal on 20 shots -- especially as you say in shorter games.

anyway, the point i was making wasn't so much that his save percentage was good, but that the quality of his saves was astounding. i expected almost half of them to go in as soon as they left the shooter's stick. his blocker seemed to be the size of an extra-large pizza box in that game.

wow awesome game 5 Smo i figured this series would end in 5 for Sebe.

Pretty funny stat, all 5 goals scored in game 5 did not involve manual GC. Sebe scored on 2 one timers and Oates scored 3 on the auto goalie on a deke.

It's rather hellish stoping a one-timer. Either you were too slow using the goalie or you went the other way as the puck goes past you. Angled pass shots are worse since I can only shoot one to a corner, but not diagonally since it flies away.

Game 6!

go 480p!

GAME SUMMARY: http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore.asp?gameid=752

GAME 6:

The Leafs lead the series 3-2, so Gartner needs to kick it into high gear and get this series tied up!

FIRST PERIOD

Leafs go with Bykov on right wing, since Roberts hasn't been very good since the first two games.

The Jets, facing elimination, change things up, putting Anderson at centre and Gartner on the RW.

Neither team gets a clean shot in the first two minutes. This game is starting out really defensive with lots of hits. The Jets get the first shot almost 3 minutes into the game. The teams are having lots of trouble getting the puck across the blue line safely, and when they do, they find that getting it to a scoring position is no easier.

The Leafs don't record a shot in the first period. The Jets get 2.

SECOND PERIOD

The Jets put Gartner back at C. Anderson had a couple onetimers, but was unable to score.

The Jets dominate the first 2 minutes, but only get maybe 1 shot.

Rod Langway picks up his series-leading 4th penalty with 2:22 to go in the 2nd.

The Leafs get a great chance, but Yzerman onetimes it right into Beaupre's pads.

Langway comes out of the box and gets a good chance, but his onetimer pass is intercepted, and the 2nd period ends, still tied 0-0.

THIRD PERIOD

About 30 seconds into the 3rd period, Gartner gets a breakaway and slips a nice backhand deke around Hrudey, to give the Jets a 1-0 lead.

The Leafs dominate the next 90 seconds, but come up with nothing, until Hrudey makes a breakout pass to yzerman, who headmans it to Bykov, who slips a similar backhand deke into the net behind Beaupre. All tied up, 1-1 with 2:42 remaning.

This is Bykov's chance to be the leafs' hero, like Roberts in game 1, Yzerman in game 4, and Oates in game 5.

Gartner gets a break in alone, but Hrudey somehow stops it on the line.

Langway gets YET ANOTHER penalty now with 2 and a half minutes to go.

Yzerman gets a breakaway! He pass-shots it into the corner, though, and then bowls into Beaupre, and gets called for goaltender interference. The situation looks bad for the Leafs, down 2 men!

The play resumes with 2:04 remaining in the 3rd period. Anderson gets the puck, but loses it crossing the blueline.

The Jets ice the puck, giving the leafs a bit of a break. the leafs with the faceoff and consume a bit more time, but then... it becomes obvious that there has been a desync with around a minute to go.

FIRST OVERTIME PERIOD:

The coaches decide to start a new game and call it OT, tied 1-1. First to score wins the game!

Since the Leafs had 2 men in the box at the desynch, they start with their 2 worst forwards on wing for the first minute of the game, and will not carry or shoot the puck with these players until that minute is up.

The Leafs win the opening faceoff and dump the puck down the ice. You can see that their right winger doesn't chase the puck, since he's pretending to be in the penalty box.

Yzerman gets a breakaway! He attempts the backhand pass-shot that was so effective in game 4, but he is a bit late getting it off, and Beaupre stacks the pads in time to prevent the goal.

I think the Jets go the first 1:45 without a shot, and then Yzerman very nearly scores again on a onetimer redirect from point blank range, on a pass from Dean Evason who's now allowed to play the puck.

Gartner picks up a penalty, and the Leafs put their good wingers back on the ice.

Bykov makes a nice self-pass off the boards to evade a check, but nothing becomes of the play.

Oates gets a breakaway and goes for the backhand deke, but Sebe knows what's coming and makes a nice GC save.

The leafs pick up a penalty with 28 seconds left in Gartner's and 1:43 left in the first overtime period.

The Jets get a onetimer that probbaly would have ended the game had it been Gartner on the ice taking it, but Hrudey makes the save.

It seems like the Leafs are a fraction of a second too late on every check this period, as the jets players keep getting a pass off just before getting wallpapered.

SECOND OVERTIME PERIOD

The Leafs get a great chance in the first minute, but they don't make it work.

with 90 seconds to go, Yzerman gets sent in on a breakaway by Bykov, but he opts for the forehand deke (due to the nice GC save on the backhand earlier in the game), but sebe/beaupre don't fall for it.

Beaupre, looking for his first assist of the series, sends it up the ice to Gartner, but he's mugged immediately and the puck is sent back down the ice to Beaupre again.

He gives it to Richardson, who sends it up to Anderson. Anderson evades a check, walks right into the slot, winds up, and scores! A slapper that beats Hrudey's blocker.

SERIES SCORE: tied 3-3

This game was Inteennssse. 0-0 through 2 periods of very defensive hockey where no inch went unchallenged.

Bykov was supposed to be the hero, and he didn't really let anyone down (7 checks for a player weighing 3!), but in the end, the Jets were the ones able to capitalize on a good chance to win it and tie the series.

Richardson had an impressive 11 checks in this marathon game.

Game 6!

This will have to go down as the top series of the first round even though there are three that haven't even played a single game.

maybe this will be the only series played

Game 7!

Go 480p

Game Summary: http://www.nhl91.com/boxscore.asp?gameid=753

GAME 7:

After a marathon victory by Sebe and the Jets in Game 6, the teams meet in Winnipeg to decide who will go on to the second round. The visiting team has won 4 of the 6 games so far, so the Leafs have that on their side.

FIRST PERIOD

Glenn Anderson gets the nod on RW, after being the Game 6 second-overtime hero.

The Leafs leave Gary Roberts in on their RW.

Gartner wins the opening faceoff back to Weinrich. He sends it to Anderson on the wing, then Yzerman misses his check and Anderson slaps it in past Hrudey's blocker. 1-0 Jets, just 10 seconds in!

Roberts shows why he's on the ice, clobbering two Jets around 30 seconds in and causing a turnover. After the Jets steal it back, Yzerman knocks over Gartner and recovers the puck. He sends it to Tinordi, who hands it off to Oates. Oates heads into the corner, and 4 Jets collide in the high slot, leaving Yzerman alone directly between the hash marks. Oates sends Yzerman a pass and he one-times it in to tie it up 70 seconds in.

Halfway through the period, the Jets start winning races for the puck and causing immediate turnovers when they lose the races, and then Anderson comes up with it in near the blue line and passes it to Gartner in the slot, and he slaps it home over Hrudey's right leg. 2-1 Jets.

After being made to look like chickens with their heads cut off for the past minute, the Leafs take a timeout and swap Roberts (who lost the puck for the goal) out for Bykov. The Jets respond by subbing Anderson off for Kamensky.

Bykov soon picks up the puck in the Leafs' zone and headmans it to Oates streaking past the red line on his wing. Oates puts a stutter step on Gartner, avoiding a check, then bounces off Weinrich's hip as he B-checks, then in Oatesian fashion sends a psychic pass to Yzerman who's streaking to the net, and he blasts a one-timer in past Beaupre's glove.

Richardson picks up a penalty with about 30 seconds left in the period, giving the Leafs a powerplay chance. The Jets have actually outscored the Leafs 3-2 on Toronto powerplays so far.

The period ends tied 2-2 after the Leafs flub 2 great one-timer chances in a row.

SECOND PERIOD

With 20 seconds to go in the penalty, Yzerman slips through the Winnipeg defense and gets a great chance on Beaupre, but the goalie kicks out both pads and denies him.

Moments later, Gartner cuts through the Toronto D and threatens a floater shot; Hrudey steps out of the crease to cut off the angle, and Gartner gets off a great pass to Anderson in the far faceoff circle for a one-timer, but it pings off the post and falls into Hrudey's control. Hrudey then fires it into Tinordi's face, knocking him over.

With 2 minutes remaining, the Leafs get a 3-on-1 break with Yzerman leading the way. He passes to Oates on the LW, and he sends it back to Yzerman -- but Bykov bumps Yzerman out of the way, spoiling the one-timer. He circles and tries to send another one-timer pass to Yzerman right in front of Beaupre, but he lets it go through his legs to Oates, a la Mario Lemieux in the 2002 Olympics, but little-used defender Jim Kyte steals the pass before it gets to Oates, breaking up the play.

Both teams play some great defense, until Oates steals the puck right in front of Beaupre, but is stoned on the deke. The Jets come back the other way, Anderson just misses a slapper, then recovers his own missed shot by the boards and sends it to Gartner in the slot for his 2nd goal of the game and a 3-2 Winnipeg lead to end the period.

THIRD PERIOD

The teams trade chances, and then Rod Langway makes a nice read and bowls over Gartner as he tries for a slapper.

Later, Gartner gets a good chance, but loses the puck, then Yzerman gets it and gets a 3-zone breakaway on Beaupre. He goes for backhand deke, but Beaupre comes up with a great save. The goalie gets up and sends the puck to Courtnall, who slices through the Leaf defense and slams a deke home behind Hrudey. 4-2 Jets with 3:28 remaining.

The Leafs put Roberts back in hoping his "truculence" will help out.

Gartner takes a huge slapper from the slot, but it's not on target and it hits Hrudey's shoulder.

The Leafs win a faceoff after icing it, and Roberts breaks into the zone on the right wing. He moves to the slot but his pass-shot sails 2 feet wide. Oates recovers in the far corner and passes it to Yzerman for a one-timer -- but it deflects off the back off Weinrich's leg and the Jets recovers it.

The teams go back and forth a few times, but no one can break into the zone cleanly without getting clocked by a defender.

Roberts gets a chance with 15 seconds to go, but his backhand deke is weak and Beaupre kicks it away, back onto Roberts stick behind the net. Oates gets a couple funny chances, but the clock runs out!

The Jets take the game 4-2, and the series 4-3!

SERIES SCORE: 4-3 Winnipeg wins

ggs

Great game if you're a Jets fan, but hard to watch for a Leafs fan! I think I got double-whammied here: Sebe played a great game defensively, breaking up a lot of one-timers and GCing a few of my dekes, and it felt like my players flubbed most of the few chances I did manage to get (see the last 30 seconds of the first period, and the spoiled 3-on-1 midway through the 2nd). It would have been nice to see those 2 chances go in and this game go to overtime :D

Overall, an amazing series for the ages!

Good luck in Round 2!

THREE STARS

Gartner (2-1-3)

Courtnall (1-2-3)

Yzerman (2-0-2)

Appropriately, gartner comes up with the game-winner.

Beaupre ends the series with an impressive 2.90 GAA and a 0.703 sv%.

The teams were separated by only 2 shots over the course of the series.
