TheTome Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 (edited) If you would like to be able to put forwards on defense, defense on offence, or some crazy mixture of the above, follow along! Step 1: Offset: (hex)008398 Change: 3438 to 6002 Step 2: Change the number of forwards on each team to 0. Done! The hack itself simply disables the part of the game that chooses to display forwards, so only defense are ever displayed. Edited January 25, 2013 by TheTome 1 1 Quote

von Ozbourne Posted July 20, 2024 Report Posted July 20, 2024 Looking this one up for later. Found the offset to do the same thing in NHLPA'93 Offset: (hex)006ED2 Change: 3438 to 6002 Quote
von Ozbourne Posted October 8, 2025 Report Posted October 8, 2025 Forgot I posted about NHLPA'93. Had to look it up from scratch after accidentally breaking the game. Was hoping this could be done in NHL 95 as well. Fortunately it can. Offset: (hex)095306 Change: 3438 to 6002 Quote
77 Posted October 9, 2025 Report Posted October 9, 2025 (edited) hmmm so the 6002 makes it so you can only select defense and the setting forwards to 0, makes everyone defense not a fan.... but it works Edited October 9, 2025 by 77 Quote
von Ozbourne Posted October 9, 2025 Report Posted October 9, 2025 Yeah, it does have it's pros and cons. On the plus side, you can edit your lines to have things like a 4F-1D power play arrangement if you like. Or move guys around in those rarer cases where a player has been both a forward and defence at points in his career. In a couple cases I've used the fact that you can't view the forwards in the edit lines screen but can in the player cards screen, to include a coach/manager. The drawback, as was brought to my attention after using this for a while, is that something with that single 6002, also messes up how the saving function works. So if you're the type who likes to play with a specific line combination, you're going to have to manually edit that line every time. I play with line changes on, so I didn't notice this right away, but if you play with them off and like to have a different line from the default, you would need to set a new default in NOSE to avoid needing to manually change the lines every time. This could cause a conflict when playing online though so that's a thing to keep in mind. Quote
clockwise Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Interested in playing around with this for the 2on2 20th Anniversary ROM. One thing I don't think is possible is to change a player from a position to none if a line is set for C & LD, for example. Don't think it would be feasible, in game, to change that LD to LW. Quote

I was thinking the same thing... Unfortunately I don't think that's a "trivial" hack (not that any hack is trivial, but it's one that would require more than a few in-place byte changes). It would need to add a non-player entry into the list which would set the value appropriately (I think an F or FF was the "no player" value?) Quote

I think the solution for the 2on2, 20th anniversary ROM, is to change the word, "Defenseman," and, "Forward," to "Skater." Since there's only a possible 15 forwards per team, in NOSE. This would be the only workaround that I know of, since I'd like to have 20 - 25 skaters per roster (haven't fully decided on the # yet). Quote

Since there's only a possible 15 forwards per team, in NOSE. I don't know if you saw this yet, but as a suggestion, I have noticed that with this hack in place, I'd changed the word "Defenceman" to Skater since that encompasses both forwards and d, but you can still have some roster slots available to "Forwards" who will show up in the Player Cards screen and the main menu roll call, but not on the edit lines screen. To this end I've changed this NPC spot from "Forward" to "Coach" or "Manager". The possible drawback is that if you have all 20 or so of your regular players in the penalty box or injured, the game will force your coach [or even the backup goalie] to strap on the skates and take a shift, but if you're not a savage and for the sake of visual interest it could be fun to highlight that your all-time team also has their all-time coaching staff on the bench. 1 Quote
clockwise Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 Didn't know that! Cool stuff. I have to experiment with Lamoriello mode. Just having a roster full of D-men, in NOSE, who appear as, "Skaters," when playing the game. Quote
