kingraph
I did this for season 06 and season 07, so why not put it together for season 08! Here are my rankings, presented for entertainment and discussion purposes only! Remember, this is just a straight numerical assessment based on my ratings...to each his own. -------------------------------------------- I sorted the list by overall team and I included a few different ratings so you can get a sense of what the team strengths are - forwards, defense, goalie, etc. The first section is the team ratings, the other section is how those ratings rank.Ratings Team Team Owner Lg Ovr Start5 5+G 3Fwd 2Def 4Fwd 3Def G NYR BoKnowsNHL94 A 82 86 84 93 72 91 70 67 DAL kingraph A 80 83 82 87 75 86 73 68 LA dcicon B 80 80 82 83 75 82 72 92 CGY Chaos B 79 82 81 78 89 78 84 74 PIT Vocally Caged A 79 82 81 88 69 87 67 70 FLA xdeathsbloodx A 79 80 80 81 77 81 74 81 HFD Carse A 78 81 80 84 75 82 73 70 PHI orangeblack92 B 78 78 80 80 74 79 72 94 STL Iceguy94 B 78 81 79 85 71 84 70 67 TOR jer_33 B 78 80 79 85 68 84 67 74 EDM minpind B 77 78 79 81 72 80 71 85 BUF IcestormNHL94 A 77 78 78 81 72 80 71 79 WPG eggink A 77 78 79 83 68 82 66 81 MTL Freydey32 A 77 80 78 81 78 80 77 59 SJ Wittgenstein B 77 80 78 82 76 81 73 65 BOS Pearate B 76 75 77 76 72 75 69 98 DET gretzkyonacold B 76 76 77 81 66 80 65 83 ANH kupuckNHL94 B 75 78 76 81 71 80 70 59 CHI Zalex A 75 77 76 83 62 82 62 73 NJ Houly A 74 77 76 82 65 81 64 65 VAN Hokkee A 74 76 75 81 66 80 64 67 TB Sicarius B 74 75 75 80 66 79 65 70 OTT PRoBob38 B 74 75 75 77 70 76 68 75 QUE Plabax A 72 74 73 78 65 78 64 61 Ranks Team Owner League Ovr Start5 5+G 3Fwd 2Def 4Fwd 3Def G NYR BoKnowsNHL94 A 1 1 1 1 9 1 11 17 DAL kingraph A 2 2 2 3 5 3 4 16 LA dcicon B 3 8 3 9 7 8 7 3 CGY Chaos B 4 4 5 21 1 21 1 10 PIT Vocally Caged A 5 3 4 2 16 2 16 13 FLA xdeathsbloodx A 6 9 6 13 3 12 3 6 HFD Carse A 7 5 7 6 6 6 6 13 PHI orangeblack92 B 8 15 8 19 8 19 8 2 STL Iceguy94 B 9 6 9 4 13 4 13 17 TOR jer_33 B 10 11 10 5 18 5 17 10 EDM minpind B 11 14 11 18 10 18 10 4 BUF IcestormNHL94 A 12 12 13 14 11 14 9 8 WPG eggink A 13 13 12 8 17 7 18 6 MTL Freydey32 A 14 7 15 12 2 13 2 23 SJ Wittgenstein B 15 10 14 11 4 11 5 20 BOS Pearate B 16 23 16 24 11 24 14 1 DET gretzkyonacold B 17 20 17 16 21 17 19 5 ANH kupuckNHL94 B 18 16 19 16 14 16 12 23 CHI Zalex A 19 18 18 7 24 9 24 12 NJ Houly A 20 17 20 10 23 10 22 20 VAN Hokkee A 21 19 21 15 20 15 21 17 TB Sicarius B 22 21 22 20 19 20 20 13 OTT PRoBob38 B 23 22 23 23 15 23 15 9 QUE Plabax A 24 24 24 22 22 22 23 22 Notes:Weights assigned to players:1F - 62F - 33F - 24F - 11D - 32D - 23D - 11G - 2The 5F,6F,4D,2G are not used in this analysis.Rankings Key (weights above used):Overall: 1-4F, 1-3D, GStart5: 1-3F, 1-2D5+G: 1-3F, 1-2D,G3Fwd: 1-3F2Def: 1-2D4Fwd: 1-4F3Def: 1-3DG: G Here are the top 3 ranked lineups for forwards, defense, and starting lineup.FORWARDS NYR PIT DAL F1 Mario Lemieux 99 Alexnder Mogilny96 Teemu Selanne 91 F2 Esa Tikkanen 90 Luc Robitaille 83 Cam Neely 89 F3 Ron Francis 79 Paul Ysebaert 74 Pelle Eklund 73 Defensemen CGY MTL FLA D1 Ray Bourque 100 Kevin Hatcher 80 Scott Stevens 83 D2 Ulf Samuelsson 71 Dave Ellett 77 Mark Tinordi 69 Starting Lineup + G NYR DAL LA F1 Mario Lemieux 99 Teemu Selanne 91 Jeremy Roenick 87 F2 Esa Tikkanen 90 Cam Neely 89 Brian Bellows 78 F3 Ron Francis 79 Pelle Eklund 73 Robert Reichel 75 D1 James Patrick 74 Dave Manson 77 Zarley Zalapski 81 D2 Eric Desjardins 70 Marty McSorley 73 Kevin Lowe 66 G Mike Richter 67 Chris Terreri 68 Grant Fuhr
LA Robbie
Haha. I already know my team is way better than that in terms of on-ice performance. Nice stats tho. Bo's Rangers look scary good this season. If I get time i'd like to try writing my team reports again like last season "ode-to-AJ" style

If I get time i'd like to try writing my team reports again like last season "ode-to-AJ" style Probably true -- I value weight, and your starting forwards have weights of 5 (Dino), 6 (Russ), and 7 (Verbeek), so that's what hurting the calculations. Lidster and Smehlik really don't make a strong defensive pairing -- I have them 21st out of 24. Nice goalie though! Those 07 team reviews were epic. Lots of work put in, I know I'd enjoy reading those again.
IceStorm70
I'll put my Sabres roster up against any of the above: F1 - Tomas Sandstrom (sniper extraordinaire 5/5 SH/SA, cannon with an inate ability to find the soft spot) F2 - Geoff Courtnall (high end speed merchant 5/5 S/A, which can break open a game at any time) F3 - Brendan Shanahan (fat plodding sniper 4/5 SH/SA, that can light up the scorebaord via the one timer) D1 - Alexei Kasatonov (Heavy skilled hitter on backend. Shade below a Blake or Stevens. 4 CK/P/STH D2 - Gord Murphy (Mobile, fast hitter that has uncanny ability to cause massive checks in the neuteral zone and in turn create transition O) G - Tommy Soderstrom (super fast and agile puck stopper with a glove that can snag beebies from anywhere) Youn wanna play run and gun, Courts can bring it with the assistance of Murphy on the blueline. Wanna play trapping style, Sandstrom and Shanny and crack that nut with howitzers from the outside.

kingraph
One other note to remember -- I assign weights to the players, and your first forward is twice as valued as your second forward, and 3 times more important than your 3rd. This will also boost teams that have a superstar vs a more balanced team like Ice/Robbie. So if you have two second rounders (Robbie), that won't score as high as a 1st rounder and 2nd rounder: 1F - 62F - 33F - 24F - 11D - 32D - 23D - 11G -

LA Robbie
Last season I put too much stock in OVR ratings. My team had no chemistry, an overly offensive D & was overly reliant on 1 man. I based this draft on lookin for specific characteristics & a FW partnership instead of getting "the best" available each round. It's early days but early exhibs suggest this is a much better team unit than my 07 roster, with a chemistry that suits my playing style a lot better. Goin to be a fun season whatever
