kingraph Posted February 28, 2017 Report Posted February 28, 2017 This debate has finally come to an end with this super scientific scoring method by NARCH_TV For those who can't sit through / find the results 1 - Sega Genesis 2 - Sega CD 3 - Super Nintendo 2 Quote
clockwise Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Ultimately, at the end of the day, we can all agree on one thing no matter which version you play: NHL'94 is better than most things. Because, I mean, most things really aren't that good at all. But NHL'94? It's a very, very good thing. 1 Quote
kingraph Posted May 9, 2017 Report Posted May 9, 2017 Interesting tidbit from Blake Harris (author of the GREAT book Console Wars) that the producers of the '94 game favored the Genesis version over the SNES. At 17 mins in the podcast http://www.msgnetworks.com/podcast/ep-11-virtual-reality-expert-blake-j-harris/ Blake Harris: "I love NHL'94" Producers: "You play Super Nintendo game or the Genesis Game?" Blake Harris: "Genesis game" Producers: "Good, that is the one you should be playing" Unfortunately they never go back to this topic on the rest of the podcast. 1 Quote
smozoma Posted May 9, 2017 Report Posted May 9, 2017 Are the producers the same for both games? If he spoke with the Sega producers.. of course they'll say he should play that game Quote

68Jagr Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 I grew up playing SNES but recently purchased a Sega to play(never owned a Sega) so I wanted to try the game on this console. I think I like how the genesis plays much better however what I didn't understand is that in the Sega game they made the Devils road Jerseys Black and the Bruins road Jerseys Brown. Weirdly I find this distracting . 1 Quote
Voronkov10 Posted November 23, 2023 Report Posted November 23, 2023 (edited) I enjoy Genesis for all the ROM hacks but gameplay to me is SNES. That's where it's at. Edited November 24, 2023 by Voronkov10 1 1 Quote
Triple A Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) gens blows gens is so slow. feels like it takes forever to play. more random bounce off goalie goals and goals from way out. the wrap around and the individual slapshots from certain spots work almost every time which i hate. snes sometimes they go in but not as often. not as easy to activate goalie in gensor often gets confused with the buttons. the game scores are generally lower which you can say is more realistic for gens. i like the crisp passing one timers in snes and faster pace. bum rushing the goalie doesnt work as well in gens as snes which is a difference and the goalies are better in gens. also the penalties are longer i believe in snes which may or may not be a good thing depens on how you look at it. for gens the theme is just throw it at the net and take more shots. you will get some lucky bounce or it will go in randomly. every time i play gens i say i am never playing again. on here though, double the amount of gens players for whatever reason. i like to think thats because you can edit the ROMs a little easier. but we are making some progress now with snes. The SNES version does have way better graphics and I like the defence control and the use of the X button to grab the manual goalie. I have played both versions of the game a lot and prefer the CD version overall due to the smoothness and the ability to edit the game and play it without the need to play it on the computer, (which other then online play is lame) or other fancy expensive hardware. My friends and I prefer the Sega CD version hands down. I kinda enjoy the CD version as well. A bit off topic, but I wish there was an easier way to edit player information, since it's not just player names... as well as a way to edit player pictures, since wboy's tutorial doesn't translate nicely to the CD.
