I will post in French, because it is difficult to express themselves fully in English in this kind of situation, my vocabulary in the language of Shakespeare is not robust enough. If someone can translate for me it would be fine.

Frankly I have difficulty to understand some players here and some of their attacks.

They explain clearly or they want to come.

I am a bad players? I am not fairplay? I respect not the rules? Or then it is because I am a European?

What is the problem?

For my part I love this game and I do not see why this forum is rotten by certain interventions.

I play in several league for several years, and I have always respected the timetable, and especially the fairplay. Only i realized that some players are the regular season and at the time of the playoffs, they disappear then that this is the best time of the season. For my part I always played my games of the playoffs as soon as possible, then that of recurring manner, some players put 2, 3 see 4 weeks to make the first turn. This is all the more embarrassing that after 3 or 4 weeks, there is more of everything in the game ...

And at the time or these players reappear, i should suddenly be available because there is a so-called emergency and that other players are waiting to start the next season of GDL.

I would point out that I am sick since a week and that I expect fair to recover to be able to play the series in good conditions.

And here I am criticized and i am treated as a small player, and i mean more, that we can very well play by being sick. It is anything! Who played with fever or with an evil of skull? Person, there is no pleasure there, as much declare package.

And I would point out that this situation would never arrival if there had of sanctions with a true respect for dates for the players: more than 4 weeks for a first round of playoffs!

I note also that certain players have of past rights, which is very strange and not really respectful to the other players.

Why have a regulation if it is never applied?

For the rest, I have the impression that it was often misinterpreted my criticisms, which are always positive necessary.

I have nothing against any players apart that some font of interventions worthy of college students.

We played for fun here, not to make the fight of court of school.

I would also point out that I am a European player, and that my vision of the game is European.

Even if Hockey is not the same thing, and that the Canadians and Americans are parties of the best players, it does not mean that he has the best vision of the game and that their way of player is the most fun.

An example of criticism which has been misinterpreted and that I am often criticized: i criticized at the beginning (ca goes up when even at 3 years now perhaps even 4) the fact that some players as Tomkabs systematically banged up players after the whistle, even as he led from 5 or 6 purpose.

Perhaps that is my vision of the fairplay but for the coup ca i had not really enjoyed it, so I opened a debate.

Result? I am the head since this day and se allows you to make comments and to post attacks even as he doesn't play in the same leagues as me.

I would also point out that the open debate at the time on the charges after the whistle has not given a unanimous opinion. And a good group of players shared my vision of the fairplay.

Only that is, a number of players here are the tenacity and think their mink of the game is the best. And suddenly they think that everyone must play as them.

Result: less and less of different players play in the leagues, and for the new who arrive, they go to hazing and only those who have character remain.

The more crazy is that I have dropped this story and that i am suited. But 3 years after, the same takes me always the head at each opportunity! What's your problem Tomcabs?

Clearly Explained?

Same for ProBob, what's your problem, you have lost a day a match against me and thee ac has not plu?

Expressed thee?

In addition Brutus is y then puts i do not even know him. Barely one or two match played against him. But perhaps he will explain to us.

It is anything. This forum and the site are supposed to be a door of entry to all players of NHL '94 and not only the mark of a group of pseudo elite players who allow to insult the other players.

What is particularly unfortunate is that there are fewer and fewer new players, and that those that enroll do not remain for the most part. Especially if they are insulted if they are a note or a few critical to advance the game.

Maybe it's a French thing :) , but my comments were unrelated to Pearate as a player/person, but more of not playing games in general under the guise of being sick.

Not saying you weren't sick, or that you didn't unfairly wait a long time, but surely if you are gonna take over a week long to sit out because you are sick, you would expect some harassment for it?

Again, maybe that's an American/Canadian culture type thing.

Probably made more sensitive by the existence of Tk and his additional ribbing, but most of us check post play. It's part of the video game. Smash, Smash, Smash & Smash some more brother!

I think the general gist is covered though, although if someone is able to do a better job, that would be great.

And, when I say harassment, it would be meant in fun. Most of us Americans I know & hang around, usually beat on each other when someone causes delays, for any reason.

Friend or foe. It's just human nature these days to hurry up & wait!

Disagree. It is a choice we make. The players that I coach know that if I say practice starts at 2 and they show up at 2 they will be running because that is late. If I say the bus is leaving at 6 am and they show up at 6 am we will be gone. It is only a problem once. Mind you these are teenagers of today and I have zero issues. I make the choice not to wait.

Again, maybe that's an American/Canadian culture type thing.

Pourquoi tu me parles du blitz ?

Donc qu'ils fassent pareil.

My French is kind of bad, but I'm going to try to give this to you in my (admittedly Americanized) own translation. Please tell me if this misrepresents you Pearate.

I'm posting in French because my English isn't good enough to elaborate. If anyone can translate, that'd be helpful.

I'm having trouble understanding some players and why they're attacking me. I don't know where they're coming from. [i think?]

Is it that I'm a bad player? I don't play fairly? I don't play by the rules? Or maybe it's because I'm Euro? What's the problem?

For me, I love this game and I don't see why this forum has so many issues.

I've played in several leagues for several years, and I have always played games on time, always fairly. I've realized that some players play the regular season but disappear for the playoffs, the best part of the season. I always play my playoff games as soon as possible, while some players repeatedly wait 2, 3, 4 weeks to even play the first round. It's even more annoying after 3 or 4 weeks, when there's only one game played [i'm not sure on this..]

When these guys return, I should suddenly be ready to go because there's an "emergency" and other players are waiting to start the next season of GDL.

I told you I was sick for a week and just waiting to play the series when I feel better. You guys criticize me and treat me like a jerk because I want to play when I can actually play my best. It's bullshit. Who's going to play with a fever or a headache? No one likes winning by forfeit.

This wouldn't even come up if there were consequences for missing deadlines... more than 4 weeks for the first round of playoffs!?

I also notice that some players get a pass, which is really strange and not really respectful of other players. Why have rules if you don't always enforce them?

For the rest, I think you misinterpret my comments. They're always meant to be positive.

I have nothing against anyone except some of them act like college students. This game is for fun, not to get too serious and act like jerks.

I'd like to point out that I'm a European player, and I see the game as a European.

Even though Hockey was born in Canada and the Canucks and Americans are among the best players. that doesn't mean their type of hockey is the most fun.

An example of something that comes up against me: 3 or 4 years ago when I started, I criticized the fact that some players like TK check after the whistle, even though he was up by 5 or 6 goals.

Maybe it's my understanding of sportsmanship but it wasn't my thing, so I brought it up.

The result? He bites my head off and is allowed to talk s**t about me even though he's not in the same leagues as me.

When I brought up checks after the whistle with other players, there was no unanimous opinion. A good chunk agreed with me, though.

But then you have a number of players here who think their idea of fun is the only way, pressuring others to play the same way.

Result: the same group of players in leagues, with rookies being hazed, only letting the same type of players stick around.

The craziest thing is that I've left all of that in the past and adapted to their style of play. But 3 years later, the same guy give me s**t every chance they get. What's your problem TK?

Please explain.

Same for ProBob, what's your problem? You lost to me one day and it made you not like me?

Brutus also talks s**t and I don't even know him. I only played one or two matches against him, but maybe he'll explain.

This is bullshit. This forum and the site are meant to be an area for ALL players of 94 and not just a few pseudo-elite players who are allowed to trash everyone else.

What's most unforunate is that there are fewer and fewer new players, and those who do sign up don't stick around for the most part. Especially if they're insulted when they make a few comments to make the game and community better for everyone.

So I ask the admins:
Do you really think this site is for ALL 94 players? And how do you explain that some players insult others with impunity?

I have to say that I kind of agree with him in a lot of respects. This site is cliquey as hell and the same few players play in the same leagues all the time. Even as someone who has been around the site (although not really "active" in commenting) for years, I still feel like an outsider. Hell, I even built a whole site to try to expand the community out from leagues and I've gotten pretty poor response to that. A couple people were really positive, while it was largely ignored. It's fine, I don't care that much, but it's really hard to imagine the site/community growing with the current attitude that's prevalent among active members.

As far as the checking after the whistle-- I don't think it's a big deal, really. I try to dislodge the net after goals personally, but I don't care if people kill my players. If someone asked me not to do it, I wouldn't get pissed at them for it. Such a weird thing to get mad about (on both sides).

If he feels like he's being attacked, that's really shitty. I remember playing him before and he was nice to me. I think the language barrier might be a little difficult for all involved, especially when he's trying to ask people why they do something or tell them he doesn't like when they do another.

@Pearate - I can only really (barely) read some French, so I can't really form coherent sentences. Hopefully you understand me.

Okay Pearate, I'll start off by saying I'm sorry. I don't agree with you 100%, but I definitely can see some of your points and see where I was wrong in particular ways. A little bit of consideration made me realize that playing while sick is a bad idea, and a perfectly viable excuse to not play. If it was a very small cold, then sure you could try to play. But anything more or semi serious at all, especially fever or something, and you will play much worse. Your best point was when you pointed out that it often takes 4 weeks for the first round of a playoff to complete, and that you always have played your games on time. Deadlines are super lenient around here, and it really is a problem. You're right by saying it's not right when somebody disappears for forever, and then comes back demanding you to hurry and play them just this minute. Free passes do exist, and as a whole this community does need to become less cliquey. Enforcing strict deadlines can make people mad, but it's a worthy trade for a league that doesn't drag on until the end of time, boring everyone to death.

Next up, the point about me headhunting you. I really shouldn't go out of my way to target you or anyone in particular, I think I just sometimes let one bad run in with somebody poison my view on them. This is a problem of mine, but it really is a community wide problem. I think it has something to do with human nature, I think we see this all over the world. For example, here is a list of some (not all, I just got this off the top of my head) community members that I feel like have somewhat of a vendetta with me:

:dal_skater_hand_grab:

This was inspired by this amazing iceguy post in case you didn't know - http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/topic/11531-my-hitlist/

This doesn't mean that I hate those guys or anything, it's just that there seems to be an elephant in the room between us or something. I feel like for some reason or another they have a problem with me, and this feeling can sometimes encourage me to post negatively about them for whatever reason. If any of you feel like this is a surprise to hear, then perhaps I'm wrong and I just read something in the wrong way. Anyhow, it's not like it's super serious or anything haha it's just somethinnn.

One thing I won't agree with you Pearate is that your old checking after the whistle thread was received with mixed responses. I went back and read the whole thread - http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/topic/14761-hitting-players-after-the-whistle-debate/ - and there wasn't a single response that agree with you. It was completely unanimous that checking after the whistle is a part of the game, and that it would be wrong to enforce a rule against it. However, you did say that you adapted to the post whistle checking style of play, so I respect that.

I also don't completely agree with you in that this forum is not encouraging for newcomers. Especially when you say that the reason there's less new players is because of the attitude around here, and that they get insulted when they voice their opinion. There's less new players because as time goes on there's less and less old people who somehow decide to type nhl 94 into google haha. But really, this community doesn't get much advertising at all, and it's always been pretty small. It's a super amazing game and community, but we can't expect it to grow just by existing. Evan updating the site this year will really help, but I guess we should try to brainstorm some ways to grow the game. I truly think that the community as a whole is great, and quite welcoming for new players. Disputes happen in all communities and facets of life. I'll try to limit my participation in disputes in the future though. An example of this is the SNES community, I have to be nicer overall and much less anti-SNES as a whole.

Unless this is a bad translation or it was a joke, I think this is a great quote to show why I don't 100% agree with you - "Same for ProBob, what's your problem? You lost to me one day and it made you not like me?"

You don't like the elite-ish attitude that's corrupted this forum, but then you say this? That's exactly the kind of stuff we don't need haha.

Overall, sorry for headhunting you Pearate. Looking forward to your response. Hope this helps clear some things up

Ok, thanks for the response.

And for Probob, it's bad translation. I just asked a question because I don't know why he interfere with me and it's not the first time. I don't remember any trouble with this guy. And the fact that he lost a game against me is just a supposition who can explain why he interfere with me. I don't know even if I have win or lost against him and it doesn't matter. I just don't know why he post against me.

i will continue to check after whistle, its nothing personal just a way to stay in the game. to get mad over it really is an exercise in futility

I usually check after letting up a goal, but not as much after scoring a goal, all other whistles mostly check, sometimes don't. I actually find it to be good practice at trying to line up a check sometimes, for the not so talented as myself. I see others practice tic tac toe passes after whistle if it's lined up correctly for them.

To me everything is all in good fun whether I lose 13-0, or win. Yes I want to win, but I just like playing this game, and am thankful to have found a site that allows me to the way this site does, I contribute zero other than playing so again I am just thankful.

Also I don't know about others experience, but being a noob here yes I've noticed the clique sense people speak of, but also most if not all of those guys some categorize as in the clique have been nothing, but welcoming, helpful, and friendly. Heck the 2V2 might be the biggest clique around, and it always seems they are open for new dudes to GA anytime!

In response to my portion here:

I think more than anything else, humor doesn't translate well from one language to another. Speaking from my perspective, I speak and post comments in a "dry humor" sort of fashion that even native english speakers often don't understand.

I don't know any of you people on this site, and i would never attribute anything from what I say online to who any of you are as people. I'm here to have fun in a loose and relaxed type of manner, I will be more careful in the future about making it clear when I'm not being serious.

Online play is interesting, it's a measure in social science.

There are things that are said and done online that would never fly in "live play".

We get away with a lot in online play - because there are little or no real-world repercussions.

So true, Love this quote.

Back in the day when we first started playing 93 the guy who was our biggest and baddest Defensive Lineman would pummel your arm if you checked him after the whistle. It hurt and no one usually did it again.

i will continue to check after whistle, its nothing personal just a way to stay in the game. to get mad over it really is an exercise in futility

It is why fighting is needed in the NHL.

Nothing personal donny I like to do it also.

I just wish we could fight over it.

One of the best features of 92 is if you do that. (Check after the whistle)

#1 You will have to fight.

#2 You will serve the instigator penalty win or lose the fight.

My favorite thing about playing KingRaph (NYR) in 92 is to pick fights (check after the whistle) with Ogrodnick (0 fight rating) and knock him out with one punch. The downside is I get an instigator and then Nicholls scores in 5 seconds on the PP. The even worse downside is I late hit someone else and raph knocks me out and buries the PP goal.

All of this is about consequences.

I really could care less about the checking thing.

I find it fun and funny. (As long as I am not playing that big D-Lineman.)

The deadline thing I do not get.

If you sign up. Play your games.

No league should last more than 2 months and playoffs should be a couple weeks.

#1 Plenty of great guys around who will play games. (The Original thought behind GENstlemen Club)

#2 Stop putting up with people who don't play or delay things.

#3 Make exceptions when needed. Skeletor missed a deadline in our 92 league but he communicated he was out of town and caught up quickly. Pearate obviously deserves an exception here.

:what: To be honest, I don't think I've ever played you and I don't even really know who you are beyond this post. I mean, I've seen your name on the forums, but I can't remember ever having an interaction with you.

I don't have anything against anyone, really. I barely play with people on here (not in any leagues), and the only person I can recall having a serious issue with was one unnamed guy for disconnecting when he was losing. That was a long time ago, though. I just wouldn't bother playing him now.
