kingraph Posted September 22, 2016 Author Report Posted September 22, 2016 Found the proof! (thank you Indiana Gazette!) Quote
kingraph Posted September 22, 2016 Author Report Posted September 22, 2016 Mikey, given it was Sunday, one could have been an afternoon game, the other an evening game. Quote
kingraph Posted September 22, 2016 Author Report Posted September 22, 2016 Well, now we know the exact game in which the cover photo was taken...will see about getting that footage as well. Quote
McMikey Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Mikey, given it was Sunday, one could have been an afternoon game, the other an evening game. Holy smokes! The picture is real !!!!!!! Quote
smozoma Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Wow crazy So I guess those weird bars in the stands were standard back then (come to think of it, I've seen similar things in Ottawa even now, but not behind the net..). I thought they boards looked different due to the ads just changing and the colours being adjusted to be less intrusive in the box cover. Plabax FTW Quote
CoachMac Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) Nevermind Sundays they often did reverse jersey day. Edited September 22, 2016 by CoachMac Quote
smozoma Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Also did anyone catch Mikeys photo is Patrick Roy in a Kings Jersey. Sundays they often did reverse jersey day. .... I had never heard of this... really?!? Teams would play each other in the wrong sweaters? Quote
CoachMac Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 No just switch from Home whites to darks. It was a prelude to third jerseys that came out in 1995. So Boston was in Black at Home which was a reverse jersey day. Quote
jer_33 Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) A lead? https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/nhl-acquires-steve-babineau-photo-collection/c-448924 The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today the acquisition of the historic hockey photo collection of Steve Babineau, team photographer for the Boston Bruins. He has shot more than 1,700 NHL games in 35 years. He officially joined the Bruins as the team photographer in 1977, a position he now shares with his son, Brian. kingraph Posted October 24, 2016 Author Report Posted October 24, 2016 Unfortunately it looks like my NHL contact has fallen through, so will have to start again to try and get this footage. Quote
segathon Posted October 24, 2016 Report Posted October 24, 2016 How'd I miss this topic? Great read. Quote
MikeGartner22 Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) These boards are like YouTube. Total time suck! I’m 94% positive in 1992, for the 1st half of the 1992 season, teams wore home white and for the 75th anniversary, wore dark at home so a late season game in Boston 1992 makes sense.  Original 6 teams had throwbacks also worn a handful of times during the season.  February 92 Det at NYR w/Rangers in darks Dec 91 NYR at WPG w/Rangers also in darks. Edited June 12, 2020 by MikeGartner22 1 Quote

Just sad his comment of "lost media". As someone who appreciates historical records, never not annoyed and disappointed when I hear the phrase "The tapes were scrubbed to be reused and free up storage space." Quote

So I'm guessing this was from the 1992-93 season, which would make it the April 8, 1993 game where the Hawks won 3-2. It's the only time those two teams met in New York that year. Anyway, I'd love to be able to get the original photo and/or game footage. Just think it'd be fun to have it...that is all.
