Tickenest
Fall 2014 is the first Classic season with full box scores on the site (UPDATE: okay I had a brain fart and was wrong, it's Spring 2013...but we'll go with Fall 2014 stats) (including this unholy, goalie-less abomination: http://www.nhl94online.com/html/box_score.php?gameid=17030). I wanted to see if I could discover any substantial statistical differences between then and now. Key findings: -Scoring is up 0.7 goals per game -Shutouts are down from 9.7% to 6.4% -Shooting percentage has gone up, 31.8% to 34.2% -Shots have barely edged up, so guys are getting better at shooting -Penalties are up (2.56 per game to 2.79 per game)...probably because checks are WAY up (48.8 per game to 61.4 per game...guessing the CB check thing was discovered in the meantime?) -Shorthanded goals per PK and breakaway goals percentage is slightly up -One-timer percentage is up substantially (29.5% to 32.9%) -Penalty shot success percentage actually went down a bit (40.6% to 37.0%) -Passing attempts and completions are up about 3 per game, leading to an improvement in passing percentage (61.3% to 63.5%) -Guys are better at holding leads after periods 1 and 2 (74% win rate to 80.2% win rate when leading after 1, 85.7% to 88.9% when leading after 2.....possibly because of the increased number of checks spoiling comebacks?)
