CPLANAS1985 Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 I need help trying to change team cities, names and arenas, players, numbers and names and logos for all EA NHL games for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo (my preferred games: NHLPA 93 [GEN/SNES], NHL '94 [SNES], NHL '97 [GEN/SNES] and NHL '98 [GEN/SNES])... NOSE and EARE don't go as far nor as customary as I hoped for... Quote
thatdrizzle Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 Hey CPLANAS1985, there is a section on the forum specific to rom hacking: https://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/forum/6-editing-amp-hacking/ Unfortunately, most of the work done on SNES is through hex editors at the moment but I know guys like @kidswasted and @dangler have recently edited the NHL94 SNES rosters so they might be able to guide you a little better. There was a recent post about editing NHL98 but I'm having trouble finding it at the moment... This thread has some info about the ice and menu logos: https://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/16251-center-ice-logos-and-menu-logos-swapping-and-editing/ Also, if you don't mind joining the nhl94 discord: https://discord.gg/kvYSWWC there is a channel devoted to rom-hacking Welcome to the boards! 1 Quote
smozoma Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 Most things in the Genesis games can be modified using NOSE (https://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/forum/252-tools/) but graphics need to be done separately in TileMolester (https://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/12135-graphics-editing-with-tile-molester-help/) 1 Quote

It's not a hex editor, it's a straight forward NHL game editor, just type in the names and ratings and hit save. (Make sure to hit the "free bytes" button before editing names, though). As for hex editors.. Not that you need them (use NOSE instead), but if you want help with them, you need to explain what problem you had or it's impossible to help. For example "my car doesn't work" doesn't help the mechanic understand what's wrong with the car. "I turn the key but the engine doesn't turn on" or "it doesn't turn when I turn the wheel" are clearer descriptions that give the mechanic a place to begin troubleshooting. Quote
smozoma Posted July 30, 2022 Report Posted July 30, 2022 Ah, your first message says NOSE doesn't do enough. Let's do one thing at a time then. What is one thing you are stuck on? Quote

Player pictures can only be changed in Sega NHL94, using one of the "decompressed" ROMs -- that's basically any 30+ team ROM, not the original game. The software for that is TileMolester. Here are references for that: Quote
