clifto
Just curious as to if anyone has tried making a new NHL 94 game from the EA NHL lineup. What I mean is has anyone tried to take for instance, NHL 94's gameplay, 95-98's season mode, 97's skills comp. etc... and combined them to make their own ultimate version of 94??? I'm sure that I'm not the only one who wants a season mode in 94!!! And judging by what people on this board have already accomplished with editing the roms, it can't be that difficult to pull off, can it? After all, the original game was built by people using a dated Genesis engine, not rocket scientists. While I'm on the subject of adding to the game, I would like to knw if any of the following has been tried or achieved. -- Blood in 94 when players get injured -- Ability to score at anytime, even when the play is whistled dead (to mess with my friends!!) -- Adding the shootout to a regular game, after the overtime -- Changing the A.I. to make the computer tougher to play against (I did notice that when I edit the puck and make it smaller, it was harder to save with manual goalie, and surprisingly harder to score...any thoughts?) -- Injuries to the goalie --computer changes goalie after too many goals (this may be wrong, but I think that the "unknown" attribute using NOSE for goalies in NHL98 might have something to do with this, as when I changed it to "0" alot of the goalies were pulled after a single goal; but alas, the same thing happened when I changed it to "6", so if anyone can verify, I'd be much obliged) --any other graphic hacks to sprites and rink ( I'm making a league based on my ball hockey league, so I'm looking to make gymnasium type flooring, an empty arena, and an orange hockey ball for realism...I guess making the sprites look like they're "running" as opposed to "skating" would be out of the question) --This one is for 93: one timers, and manual goalies --Checking a player through the glass That's it for now, I peviously asked about adding fighting to 94 and being able to break all of the glass behind the net with a shot, so if you have any updates, please post. Thanks for reading. p.s. I'm a noob when it comes to editing the game, just starting out. Don't take this post as if I want people to do all this work for me, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried any of the above. If not, and you're interested in trying, by all means go ahead, I'm just interested in all the progress of changing the game so far. All these posts have been really helpful. Thanks again. don16086
Those are all things that all of us here would love to have in a hockey game. Heck, the reason why we went to great lengths to edit NHL 94 is because new hockey games fail to play like a hockey game should, not many have even come close. I'd be happy with NHL 94 for the Sega CD that had NHL 95 SNES options.
Red
Clifto, to my knowledge there no one that has accomplished anything on your list yet. When hacking the ROM, it is easy to change static information (player names, graphical sprites, etc.). It is very difficult to affect the way the ROM or gameplay operates & nearly impossible to actually add operable code. So, since most things on your list are gameplay variations, I doubt we'll see most of them. Blood, however, should be easy to add. All you need is a graphic editor & you can find the sprites & add blood manually to the injury sprites. Your graphic hack is also doable, but would be more involved because of the scale. You would have to edit a lot a lot of tiles. It wouldn't be hard work, but it would take a while.
Guest nhl92fan
There was a guy who once came in here, who accomplised getting blood in NHL 94. I wish I still had the rom, it was very gory though!
