clockwise Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 In my insatiable quest for all things '94 I've been looking for the same font used in the game; to no avail. I've come across a few; "close but no cigars". Namely a font called "Joystix", and a commodore 64 one that had some similar characters, but neither are really the genuine thing. So I decided to rip the characters from the game and make my own. Now, some characters are absent beacuse I could only use the ones that were in the game, still I managed to get the "necessities" if you will. All the #'s, uppercase and owercase are present. Most of the other ones too. Here's some styles. The the diff color EA backgrounds are in the zip as well at 1024 by 768 94_font.zip Quote
malachku Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 this font is very close also http://www.dafont.com/deluxefont.font Quote
clockwise Posted November 14, 2006 Author Report Posted November 14, 2006 Yeah that's the commadore 64 one. Same style but if you look close they're all different from 94's font except for 1 or 2 characters. Quote
DaDonch44 Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 i really like the Silver one on the dark red background ... it looks pretty cool... Quote
Evan Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 I seem to have a problem opening the zip after it's downloaded. Anyone else have a problem? Quote

smozoma Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 Here is a minecraft font: https://github.com/IdreesInc/Monocraft But the interesting thing is that it has the FontForge project file, so it could probably be adapted to update the '94 font. Quote
kingraph Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 I also made an SNES '94 font for those interested:NHL94SNES.ttf 1 Quote
kingraph Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 And here's the Sega Genesis Font in case anyone else comes across this thread: NHL'94.ttf 1 Quote

Jlsegafan2001 Posted November 23 Report Posted November 23 There's also this one in the Player Cards section of the pause menu: What would I use for this? Quote
Jlsegafan2001 Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 Also, on Sega CD, there's actual characters for the comma, as well as the single and double quotation marks, which is not present in the font currently. Quote

AdamCatalyst Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 I think you might be using the wrong version. Grab the version the @kingraph posted above. When I open it in Glyphs, I can see the missing punctuation is there. Quote

I don't know if anyone has ever made a true type version of the large font, but the issue I've always found with that one [apart from being kind of ugly] is that most of the characters are 2x2 tiles in size and they share some tiles between different letters. This makes editing this font a little tricky, but the good news is that those columns of multi-coloured pixels directly following the font characters are actually the hex code that determines the order of how those tile get used. Granted this only helps if you are trying to change the font in the game to something that requires a different alignment of shapes, but only provides a chopped up image of chunks of letters if you are trying to transplant this font to something else. The apostrophe is shown as a glyph in Photoshop, but the font itself does not display it. Quote
Jlsegafan2001 Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 On top of that, this was the font I already had issues with. Quote

AdamCatalyst Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 (edited) Will take another look later today. Will try re-encoding the font for you. Edited November 24 by AdamCatalyst Quote
AdamCatalyst Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 Hey there, I took a closer look. There are lots of issues in this font, which is common for this kind of thing. I don't have time to fix it, and honestly, it's been so many years since I've done font design, I can't quite recall how to do this. Using Glyphs, I was able to clean up the paths, fix contour directions, etc., but that wasn't nearly enough. It appears that the bigger issues has to do with the metrics, if not also the kerning table. Here is what I would recommend. Start a new font in a good piece of software like Glyphs, or whatever you are comfortable with. Copy the outlines over, but do not copy the metrics. If any of the characters don't work when you copy them over, I can try and fix those outlines for you. As for the metrics, I would use a monospacing, that imitates the original game. Sorry, no easy answers, but I am willing to help if you want to try to work on it. -a Quote
Jlsegafan2001 Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Well, I'd try that out... if my main operating system wasn't Windows (I do have a Mac, but I haven't really been using it as of late) Quote
AdamCatalyst Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 You don't need a Mac for any of this. Windows is fine. Quote
Jlsegafan2001 Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Sure, I don’t need a Mac to use an app that happens to be a Mac exclusive. Quote
AdamCatalyst Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Why do you need to use a Mac exclusive app? Quote

You are claiming that because I mentioned a piece of Mac exclusive software, you cannot “Start a new font in a good piece of software like Glyphs, or whatever you are comfortable with.” I don't understand why the mere mention of a piece of software would restrict your ability to work on your preferred computer. Jlsegafan2001 Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 I can. I said that because of the example. Quote
