I had the same problem, but clockwies walked me through it. Turns out the "Record New Movie" stuff in moviemaker is a bit of a red herring. Instead, go to "Graphic >> Add Sound to AVI" and make sure that option is checkd. Then go to "Graphic >> Start AVI Dump", and moviemaker will start recording in AVI format for you (which YouTube will take). Quote
