What's In Store For Spring 2007 League

I'd rather get blown out in the beginning than rule for a while then find the top player and get crushed. It was pretty demoralizing when I started, beating everyone from the get-go and thinking I was king, then having Tickenest beat me by an average of 9-0 in our initial encournters.

Hey guys,

Hang in there, looks like our registration date is going to be later than anticipated. We seem to be busy thus far in 2007 with work and other life events. Anyway, we'll keep you updated on the league status. There's going to be a Spring League, that's for sure.

Hopefully some of the other leagues are keeping guys busy. We've started on updating the website (won't be live for a while) and are collecting the set rules for the league. Once we have the rules, they will be posted ASAP so everyone can read through them before they sign up.

Shouldn't be any suprises if you've been reading this thread.

Thanks for your patience guys.

PLAYOFFS

The playoffs for next season will also be adjusted. This will be on a per league basis, but here's the thinking behind the playoffs:

For the higher game count leagues, we will want around 40% of the teams to make the playoffs. These leagues should be highly competitive, so we need the playoffs to become a challenge to get into.

Thank you. I know it's a tough call. You dont want teams quitting early if they are having a bad year, but at the same time it's a move that has to be made to preserve the dignity and meaning of the regular season. And it will weed out those who arent serious about the league (players who are mathematically eliminated, lets say, and dont finish the season, are an example of non-serious league members).

Last year certain players didnt even bother playing at their peak level during the regular season (no need to since every team basically made it in), and thats just not right in my book. Now that won't happen anymore. The regular season will have meaning, and every regular season game will have a playoff atmosphere. Players are going to have to get their ass in gear every game if they wanna make the playoffs, and thats how it should be.

I'm opposed to the idea of only 40% of teams making the playoffs. I think that once guys realize when they are mathemtaically eliminated they will be less inclined to play their games. Yes it SHOULD be a challenge to make the play-offs and that is why ALL teams should make it.....'HUH?' you say.

What I mean is....in a 20 teams league, I would like to see all teams make it....except divide it into groups....and you can do it however you like....perhaps what might make the most sense is having the top 8 teams(or top four in each conference) make the 'A' playoffs....the next 8 play in the 'B' playoffs and the bottom four play in the 'C'.

So you have an 'A'(overall) champion, a 'B' champion and a 'C' champion for each league.

There will still be the challenge of making the top 8 to play in the 'A' league playoffs. Guys will be more likely to play their games since they have nothing to lose. And for those guys that get beat up and finish near the bottom will still have something to look forward to.

I take for example a guy like 'scott stevens = god'. It's easy to tell he loves playing this game and he loses by a lot sometimes but never gives up. He figures he's not gonna make the playoffs in the GENS draft league(im not sure if he did or not) and what does he do?....he sets up a tournament for teams that didn't make it.

Nobody likes to miss the playoffs...but everyone loves playing in a best of 7...because they like the intensity and they have fun.....and isn't what this site is about?...keeping guys interested in playing...attracting new players...but overall whether it be great skill or weak skill, everyone enjoys playing.

Don't forget to 'vote for rory' next year.

I did miss the playoffs...by a mile. In fact, if Quebec gets one point from their final 3 games, I will finish in dead last. The non-postseason teams playoff is probably only gonna be 4 teams, since I haven't seen much interest from players who aren't in.

My thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't read all the posts in this thread, but I read something about no A & B leagues.

I have to say that A & B are a must, we can't have them all mixed it together.

If you look at the winter league (halifax's) as an example, theres a big gap between the

say top 6 or 7 & the rest of the league. Its leading to lots of blowouts & lots of frustration, which

will force many to quit.

This game is suppose to be fun, & I hate seeing guys get frustrated. Many games I held back alot to

prevent from blowing people out. Even costs me a game or 2. I don't enjoy hammering people , I'd

rather lose a close one, than win 8-0.

I think all previous year's A players that made the playoffs should be put back into A

Then maybe the Stanley cup winner & runner up in B should get promoted.

Finally, anyone else who wants in A should be forced to play a series against Deer, Kid, Rudy,

they don't have to win, but just make it respectable, & let the elite A guys decide if they can handle the league.

The problem with the promotion thing is the Snes leagues were tainted with at least 3 accounts from rocky(2 in B 1 in A confirmed). And he was in the stanley cup finals. The guy avoided playing games. So Promoting from B based on cup standings is bad. Except for hokkeefan who seems to be in enough leagues as it is. As far as competing with A guys, if i get a team that fits and get back in my groove wtih manual goalie, I can compete with the A guys. I'll get blown out sometimes, but with pit, I split with the majority of guys in the league(winter league) and I think that I could do better with a different team (chicago, montreal, buffalo) becuase my playstyle suits them better.

I can see both sides of the A/B leagues and the sorting by games arguement, but either way people are going to drop because people lose interest and life happens.

Based on what i've seen...allowing guys to sign up for whatever league they want might be a mistake...I think deer, kid, rudy, schwartz, JotaC should throw a list together of guys they want in the strongest league (they'd have the best idea of the skill level and commitment of coaches for SNES)....then ask those players if they want in....if there's any spots left....then go to pokerchamp's suggestion...any new players interested should have to play those guys...and if 'the committee' doesn't think any of them are strong enough to compete then have a league smaller then 20 teams....remaining players will be put in the other league.

When guys signup, they will give us their game count preference but the Admins will have the final decision as to who goes where. We wouldn't make guys play more games than they requested (except maybe crossbar hehe). We also wouldn't stick someone who's never played an online game vs anyone in a "top" league.

Your points are excellent. We will definitely use any winter leagues as a guide for certain players. Halifax and others can certainly provide recommendations for guys who played in other leagues. Also the Snes seasoned vets such as the players Halifax mentioned are a perfect test to play against for placing guys.

In essence, the leagues will be broken by game count and skill at the same time.

Keep the constructive comments coming, we always appreciate them!

LOL that's a horrible idea on so many levels...just my opinion.

A B and C that's confusing and unnecessary. 40% make it, thats it. Simple and effective. Like I said, if someone drops out because they know they arent making the playoffs, they dont deserve to be in the league. Period.

Would you rather have 40 or so hard core gamers or 100 players who are half ass'ed into it? I know if I was eliminated from the post season I would look foward to finishing my schedule regardless. Should be about playing and having fun first and foremost, and improving your game.

Regardless as to what the admins decide I, like you, will play my entire season even if there's no play-offs for me.

I hardly think this idea is 'confusing'. Your top 8 or (top 40%) still play in what you would consider the real playoffs. the other 12 still get a chance to play in playoff series and have some fun....I don't see what is 'unnecessary' about that.

We have a "consolation playoffs" in my fantasy football league for teams that don't make the real playoffs. It doesn't confuse anyone. I'd suggest just having one consolation bracket though. So if 8 out of 20 teams make the playoffs, and the other guys want to organize a playoff for the 12 other teams (top four get byes maybe) for fun, I don't see the harm or think people will be confused.

Halifax I was too quick to judge I'm sorry. I kinda agree with the other guy, have 1 consolation round. That'd be perfect.
