Devils Do Everything Right, STILL Lose

It took them forever, but the Devils played a close game. The ending, however...not so much.

Despite 2 goals from Doug Gilmour, and a goal & assist from Brendan Shanahan, it was not enough for the Devils to finally notch their first point of the season. 2 goals from Luc Robitalle and the game winner from Cam Neely helped the Tampa Bay Lightning get their first points of the year, 4-3.

"This one hurts. This one REALLY hurts." Said Devils coach/GM Tom Delgado. One look at the Devils locker room after the loss showed how much this team wanted to play hard in front of a season-high crowd of 2,771. Adam Graves was seen with his head down in front of his locker. He was either upset, or sleeping. Probably sleeping, even though he didn't log any ice time tonight. "Darcy's gonna start the next game" Delgado also said, referring to backup goaltender and career journeyman Darcy Wakaluk. Delgado had been impressed with Wakaluk's performance in relief of Bob Essensa during blowouts where Essensa had been, for lack of a better word, terrible. When told he was going to start, Darcy ran out of the shower and made a snow angel out of shaving cream.
