Special teams dictate sharks win over senators

The San Jose Sharks stepped onto home ice for a complete performance, it may not have been ideal, but the end result was a 5-3 win over the visiting senators none the less. The Sharks took 4 penalties including a roughing call on Mark Recchi during an Al Iafrate breakaway led to two power play goals for the Senators. But the sharks were able to out do the sens with a power play goal of their own and 3 shorties. Captain Pierre Turgeon capped off a wonderful night with his second short handed goal in the second period to cap another hat trick. The Sens were competitive all night long but couldnt manage to break through the sharks defense in the latter stages of the game and ended up taking the tough 5-3 defeat.

"we took a lot of penalties tonight, but instead of letting it kill us we decided to man up and play hard, it turned into 3 shorties and proved to be the reason why we won," stated Turgeon.

Leading scorer Jimmy "six pack" Carson didnt factor much in the game tonight by scoring the insurance goal late in the third period. His performance this year has still been spectacular and he continues to lead the league in points, but that lead may not last long as the rest of the teams in the league catch up in games played.

With a record of 11-5-0-1, the Sharks are starting to find their groove again after an ugly losing stretch earlier in the season.
