This might be redundant at this point, but figured I'd note a final thought on the playoff matchups. Given all of our thoughts on the "randomness", I decided to be very deliberate with mixing up my draws for a mod I'm nearing completion on, that will have a "2-in-1 bonus" or whatever you want to call it. When I've done this in the past, I've just made the first 16 draws for the "main" group and the bottom 16 draws contain just the "B" group of teams. Keeping to this alignment, I was not getting a lot of variety in matches. Then using the same ROM, I copy/pasted the draws to alternate A,B,A,B,A... and now every time I scroll back and forth to a selected team, I am getting a different opponent.

Well, I was technically still getting a lot of repeats, but that is mainly due the divisions being pretty small in this instance and not because the game was forcing me to play Draw #1, 60% of the time.

Thanks for reporting back! It sounds like the results are a confirmation to me. Someone should post this somewhere useful so it can be found by future generations who don't decide to read the entirety of the thread for my '24 ROM hack.

@AdamCatalyst Are you going to created an updated version for this year?  If so, any idea when that would be ready?

I can't promise anything, as I am entering a crazy busy September, but goal is to get updated ROM out for the start of the regular season.

Because of the unlicensed material that I include in my ROMs, I'm afraid it would be a recipe for the wrong kind of legal attention. If someone in this community wants to setup a program to run off "official" ROM hack cartridges, I'll be first in line to give them artwork files. I only care that the quality is high, and no-one gets ripped off. You are welcome to go ahead and become that person.

Quick update. EA's NHL 25 launched today, and I had set this as one of the possible launch days for my ROM hack. Not going to happen, not even close. While I did most of the work this pat spring and summer, I've been completely overwhelmed with a new job, and now I'm sick. As soon as I can, I will wrap up my ROM and get it out to you all. But looking at my calendar, I'm not sure how soon that will be. I'm trying.

If you now anything about examining the contents of video RAM, or more importantly, reducing video RAM load, please let me know. I've got a minor issue this could help solve.

Hey @whackamole thank-you so much for taking the time to sign up and write! There are LOTS of excellent ROM hacks here, when you have time, you should go check out some more.

Not a stupid question. I don't know of anyone ever getting a Sega CD version done. I tried to start, but it was just too much for me, and I've given up on the prospect. If you knew of anyone who could help do such a thing, do send them my way. 

p.s. You know there is a 2025 edition, right?

Check if there is a beginner's league! Dan ran one last year, and it seemed really fun.

When I'm not busy play testing my ROM, some of my all-time favourites include  @Drezz 's retro 1990-19901 Hockey Night in Canada ROM, @von Ozbourne's insanely detailed WWF Survivor Series Shoot-Out ROM, as well as his TRON Turbo Hockey ROM.

If you prefer contemporary stuff, right now, @Sean has a ROM for the WJC, and @Jkline3 has his own take on the 2025 NHL season.
