Here it is! Completely revamped and powered up, my All Time Legends roster hack! I'll try and re-explain and summarize what this hack is about  I wanted to keep it as Vanilla 95 as far as the aesthetics as possible, other than splash/intro screens and some of the team banners/logos (Special Thanks to von Ozbourne for helping with that stuff!) I considered making the ice darker like NHL 94 for example but, kept it the light default color, since 95 players probably prefer that. Other small changes that are unique are the pre-game menu team ratings, they're all high of course, based on how many finals they reached, stanley cups each team won, how often they made the playoffs, the actual level of legends their franchise has had over the years, etc.

The goal of this was to have rosters for each team made up of players who 1. Played for that franchise for the most games/seasons 2. Scored the most points for that specific franchise 3. Were important players during a special season or winning season for that team. Most players are around the top 20 of all time scorers for the specific franchise, with some exceptions for defenseman, and other situations. Some examples of this would be: Ray Bourque being on Colorado even though he only played there for 2 seasons, because he won the cup there, or Chris Pronger on Anaheim for the same reason. No player will be on more than 3 teams total in this game!

This game was meant to be played for Season Mode with Edit Lines on and Penalties on (no offsides of course). Specifically it was made for doing full-control seasons, without simulating any games automatically, since simulating typically is unbalanced as far as team records are concerned.  See what team is truly the greatest team in a whole season! I've been doing it by having the cpu play eachother in many of the games (7 minutes is recommended for that with fast forward on your emulator, gets more goals from the cpu!) and then just playing a few games for each team. It's kind of a cool way to nerd out, follow your own season and all the stats for each player/team if you're bored and just wanna play offline! But also, it was meant to be played in historically accurate playoff series! Playoff mode was carefully edited to have every single season's 16 playoff teams be from an actual NHL season, from 91-92 through 22-23. Of course later seasons use the 1-4 1-4 so, for those they simply match up so the top two matchups on the playoff tree in each conference are from one division, and the bottom two matchups are from the other!

Some adjustments to the schedule had to be made but all 26 original teams are in Season Mode, yet still all 32 teams (plus all star teams) are in the game! This is a big issue for all the other NHL 95 34 team hacks out there. The teams used in Season Mode are alphabetical, so if you put them A-Z, some important teams are left out. Instead, The original 26 franchises are A-Z, and then the 6 new franchises are A-Z following. Since it's a 'All Time Hack' it makes more sense to use franchises that have been around for 3 decades or more. The 1 team I was unsure what to do with was Winnipeg, as they take up two franchises, so I just decided to have Winnipeg be used in Season Mode as that city has a much richer hockey history than Arizona, and I simply combined players from both franchises since they are both technically Winnipeg from a historical standpoint! Arizona is just players from the original Winnipeg franchise and Phoenix/Arizona.

So of course, there have been many other all time roster hacks over the years, so I needed to do something different for this to stand out. The main difference is: Using different players from many different decades for more variety. I wanted to have current players who are still increasing their points and games played for their current franchise on every team! So for example you might see a roster like Montreal and think hey, a few of these guys aren't among their 'best players ever.'

Mind you there's a Max of 26 players on each team, with at least 2 being goalies, so Original 6 teams were the hardest to do. But I wanted players from the important seasons for each team, and spread across many decades on those teams. Teams like Montreal might not have as many 'historic legends' from the last 30 years but, those players still are important to their history, especially the ones up there in the all time games played list for the team. It would be boring and repetitive to just have only dynasty players for those teams! Take Philadelphia, players included would be from Philadelphia's 70s, 80s, 97, and 2010 finals teams, mixed in with a couple of their best current players, and other players among the top 15 in Games/Points. It makes the rosters different from these other hacks, and you still have the choice to use only those dynasty and top top legend teams for your Edit Lines.

Hopefully I've explained the rosters well enough! I know some people will see a few players and think 'WHY IS HE HERE, AND NOT HIM?' But I can assure you pretty much all the obvious players for each franchise will be there. I definitely didn't go back further than the 1940s as my knowledge doesn't go that far back, and there's already such a wide player pool for the original 6. On top of that, you're really only using 9 forwards and 6 defenseman for the lines, 1 goalie, so I figure hey, the important guys will be on the lines, and if you disagree with some of them, change the lines, open NOSE and change the default lines or edit a few players yourself if you want, make it your own!

Anyway, forgive the essay of describing lol I'll shutup now  Hope some people truly enjoy this hack!

NHL 95 All-Time Legends.bin

Edited March 12, 20242 yr by NotJustGamesThisIsMyLife

UPDATE: Not sure how but when editing rosters 1 VERY IMPORTANT player somehow was missing. Noticed it when I was playing as Washington, Rod Langway back to back Norris winner, Hall of Famer, somehow got overwritten when I was touching up rosters and wasn't there. So I re added him here, that's the only change from the other download

NHL All-Time.bin

This looks great. How do I cycle or choose between 1991 and 2023 playoffs?

Would it be possible for the creator of this to add a 10 minute length  period  option to this Rom? As I rather play 10 minute periods than 7 minutes.

Any chance that someday the creator of this AllTime Legends Rom at least please add to it a 10 minute period option?

Maybe also as well could correct the right real life handedness of a few players? For example unless I'm mistaken I think it was Peter Forsberg and also Mark Recchi that i noticed had the wrong handedness when I had played this rom yesterday.

And another question and a request! Could a project just  like this one be also made by you (or get some helper) and add maybe this same kind of idea to Nhl94, as well as Nhl97, and Nhl98 too perhaps?

I'd like to see a 10 minutes period length option and fixed handedness of some players.

Hey there! So I did my best to get the hands right on players but in some cases there were balancing issues with certain teams so, I do recall having some be different. & I thought there still was 10 minute periods in the game, it's been a while since I worked on it ( was thinking it had 5 7 and 10 ) Sadly you can only have the 3 options. But if you want to change the period times yourself, that would literally take like 10 seconds. Just use the NOSE editor, one of the menus has the period options on there. Super super easy. You can also change player handedness for any players you wanna swap.

Ok thanks for the reply. I will not worry too much about it because I do not even own a PC anymore or ever use NOSE. I actually  play the  games on Android Tablets only nowadays.  Most of these NHL ROMS work quite well with  Emulators (Except a few based off NHLPA 93 where those games often do not load up on a emulator for me). If perhaps you cannot update this Rom yourself with the correct handedness or the 10minutes periods I guess I'm out of luck right now as I Do Not plan to buy a new PC. Either you Not worry about it for me, or if it would even work at all just maybe you could post a updated seperate download of your Rom? You don't have to  do it Sir if you do not want to  unless perhaps the changes would even be halfway feasible or even  possible without messing up the Rom? I just thought the Rom would be even better with correct handedness of most  players and a 10 minute period option thats all.

Would it be at all possible for you to please just add either 5,7,and 10 minute, 6, 10,20min  periods or 7,10,20 minute periods to this Rom rather than change the handedness of the players right now? As I said I don't own a PC at all and cannot get one. If its easy to do maybe you could just add longer periods (at least the 10 minutes) to the Rom and leave the handedness the same to save you time? Personally I'd like 7minutes, 10minutes, and 20 minutes over having the other options or and not any 5minute option. I like to play 10minute periods generally in these games. Maybe a seperate download could be offered with the original file that had included Rod Langway! I will just say that would be nice! 😀

Sorry since I do not own a PC computer and have no plans to buy one (low on cash as well) and you claim it only takes 10 seconds to change period length could you please change period lengths for me by request to this Rom (but make sure Rod Langway is included) to 7min, 10min, and 20mins? Dont worry about any handedness changes. Just a request that would be highly appreciated and I can then leave you alone there after!  As it only takes 10seconds you say. I cannot do it without a PC and I only own several Android Tablets. As NOSE does not have a Android version!

Could someone (like the same guy that helped me out recently and earlier with "the first" file!) update in NOSE now the second download file titled "NHL All-Time.bin" (because this one is fixed because it includes the one missing player Rod Langway on the Capitals) to include 7, 10, and 20 minute periods? I actually wanted this version of the Rom edited actually and also edited for longer period lengths because the original Rom(s) in this thread only allow for 5,6,and 7minute periods and the first download doesn't include the missing player. If anyone could edit the file a few posts back titled "NHL All-Time.bin" to now include 7,10, and 20 minute periods that would be appreciated!

The great news is I already got my Rom edit requests above  filled by "some Mod creator" (Thanks Man and I will keep their name private!) who was very helpful. But I cannot seem to upload and share the files I had personally  received with the updated longer period  lengths to this forum though! Just letting people know I don't need any further  assistance on this Rom.  I cannot seem to upload the period length changed Rom(s) for any others to enjoy without getting a error on this forum. The only other change I'd like to see to this Rom someday is corrected handedness of many players that have wrong handedness but I'm fine if it's never changed and was much more interested in getting  longer period lengths of say 10 to 20 minutes. I got the files and a creator that helped me does too but I cannot upload the files because I get a error and not sure I have permission to do that anyway. Just be aware that the original  downloads above only allow for 5,6,and 7minute periods in this Rom.

NHL All-Time 71020mins.bin

Above is the Nhl95 All Time Legends Rom download  simply edited for now  7min,10min, and 20 minute periods. This edited  version also includes the originally missing player Rod Langway on the Washington Capitals. I do not think 5 minute periods are available anymore in this edit however. Personally for me 5 minutes are too short!

Please note: someone else on this site edited this file from above for me "by my request" because I am not a Rom creator myself,  actually do not own a regular PC right now (use only Android tablets or my phone) and therefore have No access to the NOSE editor for NHL Roms.

seattle have old anaheim ducks players only and there was another team that only desplayed one player in the "trade players" section 🤔

hope to see a NHL 26 made out of NHL 95 soon

I think the guy that actually  made this Rom might know way better than me about that! He's been silent for a long time or on hiatus it seems. I myself didnt make this Rom, i just had someone for me edit the period length times. I  just now have loaded up the Rom, chose Seattle under Trade Players and they were all Anaheim players as you said. I think the expansion teams do this in this Rom whenever you try to trade people, etc or play a Game with trades for certain teams, etc . I notice Seattle for example is maybe fine in Regular game mode it seems showing the correct players to play in edit lines but anything with a few teams causes some issues like you had said. I cannot fix that issue for both you or myself!

I Have a Question for you? Is most everything else though working okay or not in this Rom?

Also if you have noticed like me long ago the handedness of various to abit too many players in this Rom is also wrong!

i dont know what you mean with this.

i quit as soon as i discovered this error so i cant tell you how everything else works.

although i have played NHL '23 (95) - ROM by utramagnus and that rom has the same problems with some teams.

san jose, columbus, seattle and ottawa are not available for trades. you can select them but only when you go backwards when selecting teams and when you choose them as home team i beleive. the players are there but all of them are listed as goalies(or other position) or have no numbers and when scrolling down the list of the players the game freezes.

its a pitty. the game is still great in my opinion but offcource i miss the option to make trades with all the teams

I agree with what you are saying. All True. My main complaint with this Rom is not just that, but the handedness of some players are incorrect.

you mean they are holding the sticks the wrong way or?

Yes, holding the sticks the wrong way

i havent noticed. you have an example?

Sidney Crosby for example. I think Malkin too, etc.

hmm..i have played with pens before and i havent seen anything strange with their sticks. i will look when i play tonight.

so i guess you also prefer the nhl games after 94 like me?

Actually I like basically all the NHL games quite alot for the Sega Genesis particularly. Even like 94. I like Nhl95 better mainly only because you can do things like trade players, or create players. Other things I like is when doing on the fly line changes in 95 and the games after you can hold on to the puck instead of losing the puck. For some reason on Nhl95 though one thing I don't like  compared to the other games in the series is I cannot edit the lines of the CPU team with the 2nd controller when playing in 1player mode. I play these Roms and games  just on Hand Held Android Tablets  these days. In fact its been awhile since I owned a Windows PC. Right now I don't own one. I find PCs more a pain for some reason. I like to use and buy the Amazon Fire Tablets because they are pretty inexpensive. I also own Sony Playstation 4s. I still do not have the Playstation 5 yet or a new XBox. The last new NHL game made for PS4 was Nhl24. The newest Nhl26 I heard on PS5 got a 6 out of 10 score on a review. It's probably still good mostly but some say it's too hard to play or maybe too complicated. I never played the new one or Nhl25 too so I do not know.

mm cool! i like to make trades as well, keep the rosters up to date as much as i can 😀👍

nhl 94 is way too slow for me and too easy to score. theres no challenge really with that game.

yeah i would also like to keep the lines up to date even the teams i play against.

i play these roms and other games on a mini pc with batocera, it works great 😎

the last "newer" nhl game i played was nhl 11 on xbox 360 🤭 i basically just liked to create my own nhl-team and play games with them. i used players who were free agents or left the nhl, that way it felt like my team could actually be a real team. the game itself was ok but not something i enjoyed for too long.

those new nhl games look great but i dont like the gameplay, they just dont feel good to play

The more newer Nhl games for both Playstation 3 and 4 I do like, but only when I adjust these gameplay sliders they have in the options menu. You can adjust various things and for me it helped quite alot at liking the games better. But with just the default settings I don't like the newer era games as much. When I get the settings set  right and to my liking I enjoy and have enjoyed them abit though. I think they are still pretty good mostly regardless for the most part once I got used to them. I have bought just about every NHL game actually made since the Genesis days at least for Playstation. My last Xbox I had was a Xbox360 at one time. Surprising my only Playstation of all iterations I've owned that died  though so far all these passing years was only my very first PS3 I had bought long ago. It had died many years ago while playing some Formula One Racing game I had on it.  My current oldest PS4 though is almost 10 years old though! I own NHL 17,18,19,20,21,22,23 and 24. Now I only buy digital games now so for myself I only can play nhl18, 21,22,23, or 24. All the rest I have only the CD disc version. I live alone in a apartment now for many years and actually all my Cdrom games are still at my old parents house still. I still currently  have No Cdrom games at my apartment at all actually! Just buy and play digital download versions of console games now. Even my whole music collection is all just  in Mp3 now and I don't even have my old Cds from the past at my place.  Times have changed both for gaming and music formats that's for sure since the 1990s. Funny also that i still enjoy gaming even today because Nhl95 came out the same year I had graduated high school! LMAO! 😁

i took a quick look on the gameplay sliders for nhl25 on youtube and it really seems like its possible to control the whole game. interesting.

wow 😁 you have had a lot of consoles! i have only owned sega mega drive 1 and 2, gameboy pocket, 2 xbox 360 and recently bought a sega mega drive mini, but that one i will sell now when i discovered batocera.

my gaming have been on and off my whole life. i dont really play a lot of games, there are just a few that i enjoy but the old nhl-games have always been close to my heart 😍

i remember looking everywhere to find nhl 98 since it was the last nhl game made for sega mega drive. i never found it, only nhl 97. played that game for a bit, got tired of it and my gaming didnt came back until i bought my 2 xbox 360. the reason i had 2 was because the first one got banned so i couldnt play online, so i bought the slim version also and later i got my hands on a white glossy case for it 👌

but like you said, time surely has changed and the possibilities are almost endless today. if you want something there is almost always a way.

i do have my music cds in my collection and sometimes i like to listen to them on my mini stereo. the sound is better on cd than mp3 so thats why i like to do that from time to time.

i also got all my sega mega drive games intact but no old mega drive consoles. my model 1 got stolen when someone broke in to my basement storage and my model 2 i sold a few years back. i thought about bying one of those sega mega drive flashback just to be able to play the cartridges, but after i discovered about something called "shaders" i pretty much just focused on getting a mini pc for setting up my own retro gaming console and so far i love it!

Thanks for the reply.  I looked up Batocera. It apparently turns a PC into a Retro game console and is based on Linux? Sounds interesting. True I own or owned alot of consoles and once computers. I'm old enough that I used to own a MSDOS intel 486-33mhz  PC in 1992 or so. Before, my Dad had Macintosh computers.  For games aside from NHL hockey I used to play alot of various Flight Simulators  actually on my computers. Various ones both for either DOS and Windows. Now I just play the ones available for Tablets and Android. Except one of my favorite PlayStation 4 games is called War Thunder. Its a multiplayer Military simulator and Flightsim. I play it more over the last 2 years than before. Its free unless you wish to buy content for it. I have! Some other kinds of  PlayStation Games I got into more recently was actually the Sniper Elite series (mostly Sniper Elite 4) for example, and awhile back, Insurgency Sandstorm. I've owned alot of games /consoles in the past. Various 90s DOS games, later several  Windows PC games, Nintendo 8 bit, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Game boy Color, a N64,, a Sony PSP, several PlayStation 1, 2, 3, and 4,plus  Ps4 Pro version consoles, 2 Xboxs (that first one from early 2000s), 2 Xbox 360s (my first one died while playing some Racing Game). A Same type of game (Racing) also killed off my first PS3 too! Instead of using a PC, I now like the Amazon Fire Tablets. Unfortunately they dont come with  Google Play and it's Store app. Can be installed separately though with instructions and the right files. On my tablets I got several different Emulators on them for my old DosGames (Magic Dosbox), Sega Genesis emulators , SNES, Nintendo Gameboy, N64, Playstation 1, PSP Emulator, Sega Dreamcast, and even for awhile  tried out a Amiga computer Emulator. I like playing the NHL Roms  on my tablets with the touch screen controls. Its just so easy, and cheaper too as it gets the job done for me without needing to buy even a seperate game pad! For music, I used to own stereos. Most of them were Sony brand. I had 2 others of another brand I forgot the name of that and it was quite a loud system. It was awesome. I think it was a AIWA stereo system?  But I sold all my stereos long ago and just have Mp3 players now. The only game consoles I have at my current  apartment of all those are just some old PS3s and PS4s. I do not even plan to buy a PS5 for awhile and cant afford one easily rightt now. But I hate the fact my internet and TV costs kinda alot. I got only a base package, but still pay around $206 a month for it. In the beginning it was about $120 a month many years ago. Back when the  PS3 first came out, the first one at launch I remember  cost me over $600 dollars between the system, a 2nd controller, and one Game! I remember the very first Nintendo back in the mid  80s was around  maybe $109 dollars  with two controllers and the light gun for Duck Hunt included. For the Sega Genesis NHL games the only one I never bought with my own money was Nhl98. I think around 1997 or so its because I got my first PlayStation system. First game for PS1 was? NHL98! I remember that Christmas, as I got Nhl98 for PS1 and my brother asked for NHL Faceoff 98!

NHL98! I remember that Christmas, as I got Nhl98 for PS1 and my brother asked for NHL Faceoff 98!

thats right, linux based. my mini pc came with win11 and i didnt want to install batocera over it so i checked a guide on youtube how to install and run batocera from a usb drive. im using an external ssd for it and i set the pc to boot from the external drive every time so i keep my ssd in the usb at the back of the pc so it start up batocera by itself when i power it on, just the way i want it. just like a console.

i cant understand how your consoles break just like that when playing a game, you must have bad luck with that. or maybe those newer consoles are much more sensitive?

ok cool. but you must have some sort of gamepad when you play the nhl 23(95) rom? what do you use? i have both the retro bit big6 and the 8bitdo m30. the later is a very very good controller. only negative thing i can think of is the surface. its a bit matte finish, almost a little bit sandy actually. well not really sandy haha but not the gloss surface that i want on a controller but its fine since everything else about the controller is so damn good.

yeah..i want something small and effective to replace my big heavy stereo in the future. just a small powerful enough machine with amplifier and cd and i would love to have active speakers so i dont need the cables. right now though everything is nicely hidden with cable hiders.

oh yes the consoles are illegally expensive today. i dont think its worth to pay that kind of money for a ps5 and just play some nhl 26, tekken and mortal kombat because thats (what i know) the only games that i would be interested in. right now its only batocera for me to play sega mega drive and super nintendo and maybe some amiga 500 and street fighter on nintendo switch, if i can get it to work. the amiga 500 roms i havent been able to get to work yet. and when its too advanced to set up i usually skip it. maybe i will check it another day but right now i dont have time and interest to dig into it.

i have nhl 94, 96 and 97 on cartridges for my sega mega drive

My "Android" Tablet Emulators are played without a game pad because it has these "transparent like overlay controls" of the directional buttons and  its all touch screen controls on a tablet. I just download the Roms off this site and run them off a Emulator on a tablet. It's that simple. I use Amazon tablets but maybe look into a different brand if you would want Google Play like I have on my phone. As Amazon tablets doesn't have it installed by default. For Genesis Roms I usually use one Emulator called EmuMD XL by Pentawire, and for Super Nintendo Roms I use recently one called Snes9x EX+. They work fine for me. Basically the cheapest and easy way to play mega drive games, etc without using a seperate gamepad, etc.

My "Android Tablet" Emulators are used to play the NHL Roms without needing a physical gamepad because it has these "faded more transparent like overlay controls projected on screen" of the directional buttons, and the other buttons,  and  its all just all touch screen controls on the tablet. I just simply download any Roms off this site and  then load up whatever Rom file I wish to play in the Emulators on a tablet. It's really that simple. Has a Option and settings menu for each Emulator as well.  It works fast and runs pretty  smoothly.  I use Amazon brand tablets (usualy the Fire HD 8 models), but maybe look into a different brand if you would ever want Google Play like I have on my phone. As Amazon tablets do not have it installed by default. For the Sega Genesis Roms I usually use one Emulator called EmuMD XL by Pentawire, and for Super Nintendo Roms I use recently one called Snes9x EX+. They work fine for me. All the old actual  NHL cartridges for Genesis I had bought back in the 1990s. With Emulators now I personally do not need the originals or the actual console itself to play.
