clockwise Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Here's the hockey tape-sprite edit that I did for my 91 rom in patch form. It's compatible with any NHL '94 bin file. Some of the alterations:- hockey tape for sticks- improved checking animations- eyes changed to black / boot-glove swatch; eyes no longer use jersey colors.- boots / gloves fixed; Players gloves and boots used to change silver during shooting and checking animationsSample pic below.Instructions for the patch are in the zip.NHL_94_sprite_edit_by_clockwise.zipNote: The window where the ref drops the puck tiles are compressed in the original bin, use wboy's 30 team template if you wish to alter the sticks in that window.I have all of the sprite animation offsets cataloged along with some tips how to view them in TM if anyone wants to make their own sprite edits. Will post them when I have time. Quote
slapshot67 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 thanks clockwise that is great work, love the nhl91 rom Slapshot67 Quote
refuse Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Doesn't work Edit: Nevermind. Tried it a fourth time and it worked. Go figure . Quote
clockwise Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 In order to view the sprites in TM, I had to set the canvas to 1X16 and zoom in all the way, then load the team palette, which you can find in NOSE.From this view the sprites are seen in 3 slices: back half, middle half and front half (stick). It's tedious viewing them like this, but it's the only way they can be viewed so the sticks can be seen.Here's the all of the sprite offsets as they are stored in the game, in sequence if any one want's to make their own edits:skating and shooting: 00064D40 - 00068920skater stopping: 000688A0 - 000693A0skating backwards: 000694A0 - 0006B460skater celebrating: 0006B460 - 0006E760skater with cup: 0006E760 - 0006F220skater checking (attempt): 0006F220 - 00071FC0skater poke check: 00071FC0 - 00073680skater falling: 00073680 - 0007A580skater holding: 0007A580 - 0007B860skater arrows (offscreen): 0007B880 - 0007BF2skater stars: 0007BF80 - 0007C0E0replay arrows: 0007C1A0 - 0007C1A0puck: 0007C1E0 - 0007C240net: 0007C260 - 0007C4C0goalie saves: 0007C580 - 00089DE0siren: 00089E00 - 0008A1A0skater batting puck w/hand: 0008A1C0 - 0008B5A0skater hooking: 0008B5A0 - 0008CA60skater tripping: 0008CA80 - 0008F5A0skater flipping: 0008F600 - 00090E00skater injured: 00090E00 - 000914C0goalie saves pt2: 00091C60 - 000959A0goalie slams stick after goal: 000959C0 - 00096680skater shoots: 00096800 - 00096FA0skater cross check: 00096FA0skater shooting: 00096FC0 - 000982C0skater checked into boards: 000982E0 - 0009D380crosscheck 2: 0009D3A0 - 0009E100skater 3 and 4 offscreen arrows and star: 0009E160 - 0009E4C0 Quote
Rookie Hockey player Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 That looks good but there's only a problem that the hockey tapes on the faceoff scene do not appear. I took a screenshot which shows you where the problem is (Indicated by a red ring). Quote
clockwise Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 You might have missed what I said previously. Note: The window where the ref drops the puck tiles are compressed in the original bin..Use wboy's 30 team template if you wish to alter the sticks in that window. Those tiles are not hard to find in TM or TLP. In fact, you can take my 91 edit and paste the tiles from my face off window over yours. Quote
rcvthamc Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 i know this is a old thread and all, but i just downloaded the patch now it's really cool man. the smallest detail seems to make a big difference to me. Quote
clockwise Posted September 30, 2007 Author Report Posted September 30, 2007 Yes, anything that adds some modicum of detail to a game this old is worth it to me.Still trying to figure out how I could excise the helmets from the skaters and goalies for throwback edits. Quote

Ovechkin Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 would this work with the 07/08 update??? Quote
clockwise Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 It's compatible with all NHL '94 roms with smd or bin extension. So, yes, it will work. Quote
Ovechkin Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 really? Do I just save it over the .bin file? I tried that but gens didn't load it Quote
clockwise Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 Follow the instructions in the text file closely. Quote
Ovechkin Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Sweet. I got it to work and it looks great. good job Quote
Inklings Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 i keep getting The requested resource could not be found error. could someone please reupload this or email it to me. CrushingInklings@yahoo.com Thanks! Quote
clockwise Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 Got it?For some reason the link in my post was encapsulated with myriad <a>nchor tags. Weird. Should be good, now.Should I just use the skate boot color for the hair? And should the goalies all have white masks, or none at all? Would like to hear some opinions. Quote
mack Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Yes, white masks. Perhaps the skates and hair could be a little more brownish then? Quote
TruePensFan1981 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Got it?For some reason the link in my post was encapsulated with myriad <a>nchor tags. Weird. I say the goalies should each have their own individual mask style. Oh, and it would look real cool if you could give any of the goalies some scars on their face. That would kick ass! I also want you to put Mortal Kombat fatalities into the NHL '94 game, as well as fights and blood.Get rid of all the skaters' helmets and replace them with the Craig MacTavish hair! And figure out what the hell you need to do to put multi-game injuries in NHL '94!Last, but not least, I also want you to figure out how to uncompress NHL 08 for the XBox 360 and be able to play it on the Gens emulators![/Crossbar] Quote
Inklings Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 IShould I just use the skate boot color for the hair? You should make the hair style look like Brian Engbloms from Versus. Is it possible to paste a dead muskrat as hair sprite? Quote
Inklings Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Its a big joke at my house hold. You would think being on TV he would have a stylist that would inform him how bad his hair looks. Quote
clockwise Posted February 8, 2008 Author Report Posted February 8, 2008 Here's a mock up using the hue's that are available in every teams' palette (stick, boot, and blade). The goalies' appearance is satisfactory but the skater's have too much jerri curl-action going on, and there's really no way around this.Unless anyone's working on a Soul Train hack, I don't think this will be pursued any further. Quote
slapshot67 Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 that is so sweet, i think its perfect Quote
Inklings Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 thats great! i think this would give me a reason to do that defunct NHL franchises rom i was thinking about making. Quote
mack Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Dude, that's perfect. Keep it going. Quote
clockwise Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Messed around with some more of the goalie sprites; the mask actually looks very good. Can't really speak for the skaters as they haven't been experimented with, yet. Quote
clockwise Posted April 25, 2008 Author Report Posted April 25, 2008 Little more than half way through the old school patch. Progress has been halted due to studying and other projects I'm working on - mainly the super-death-star, new nhl91 v.2 site. This WILL be finished, however, granted I live long enough. Quote
top shelf Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Clockwise, any plans to do this for NHL 93?? Do you (or anybody) know where the sprite animations offsets are for ’93?? Quote
