hmm... maybe not. he was a minor leaguer at the time the game was made, but he was playing in 1994, so.... yeah.

couldn't find anything on Michael Nylander, but doesn't have him listed playing currently so I've placed him in retirement.

Kovalev is working out in Europe in hopes of an NHL return..

At age 39, Alex Kovalev has decided he likes the NHL ... he really likes it.

The veteran winger hopes to land an NHL job once the lockout is settled and is biding his team skating with the Red Ice HC Martigny team in Switzerland.

"My goal is to sign a new contract in the NHL," Kovalev told Nouvelliste, a Swiss newspaper. To that end, he is in Switzerland with a rather obscure team to work out and stay in shape.

Kovalev admitted to having a poor season in 2011-12 in the KHL with Atlant Mytichtchi, getting only six points in 22 games.

"I prefer the NHL to the KHL," he said. "I received invitations to training camps from several clubs but, because of the lockout, I have not been able to visit directly in North America.

"From what I have heard, the lockout situation will not change until mid-November."

Kovalev had 16 goals and 18 assists in 74 games with the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins in 2010-11.

Kovalev has always been a favorite player of mine. that said, I don't think we'll be seeing him in the NHL again. were he to make a roster, I'd be tempted to rate as him even worse than the garbage he had "in the game," as he doesn't have much left. he was one of many players to average a 100 overall rating in NHL '95, but he was underrated in '94, maxing out around 65, overall.

a short season is good for guys like Kovalev who haven't been able to play up to par for a full season since their teens. I'm glad he's back and I hope he gives it his all, which doesn't seem to be much of late.

"They were the first four Russians to have their names etched on the Stanley Cup."

"Who were Karpotsev, Zubov, Nemchinov and Kovalev? I'll take Ends In 'V' for 400, please."

From the article: "I don't think theres any doubt that Alex Kovalev's had a Hall of Fame career."

Whaaaaat? I think there's a LOT of doubt that Kovalev's had a Hall of Fame career.

Looks like Jagr will be the last of the '94 alumni playing in these NHL playoffs. Teemu and the Ducks lost Game 7 & Hamrlik has been a scratch so far for NYR in the playoffs. Jagr is the only bet I can see sticking around one more year, if he wants to grind out one more 82 games schedule + playoffs on his old bones. But watching Bruins/Leafs, he still had his flashes of excellence at 41. Still a big body (240 lbs) and he continues to work out & take care of himself.
