You can always rip off the ratings from another current ROM, and adapt them to your liking. Feel free to use mine if it helps!

You're in luck...  @chaos created such a tool from extracting/importing csv files from/into SNES files.  Details in the link below.

I've always been curious about trying modding the PC version.

One option if you didn't necessarily borrow someone else's ratings is to just borrow EA's. In the past when I needed some quick ratings I'd just copied the player stats from nhlratings.net and I had a spreadsheet with formulas to convert the percentages into the Base-6 numbers that NHL94 uses.

That spreadsheet was on an old computer so I don't know if I still have it, but I can always redo the numbers if you want to try that.

His is a GENS file (.bin format) not a SNES file/format.

There is a different tool for GENS files.

Been there done, that, many times.

For me personally, these tasks are often so much easier once I walk away, and come back after some time. I *WANT* to keep going, non-stop, but I can bang my head against the wall for hours to no avail, and later realize what I need to do in minutes.

ffs now i broke everything...

I'm only drawing a reference to stuff that I've tried in the Mega Drive/Genesis version, but without knowing how you changed the player name, did the new player name have the same number of characters as the one it replaced? I ask because I know that if you change a line of text but not the offset reference for that line of information, it's going to come back with some weird stuff.

Without knowing more, that's just the thing I think of when you see "address" come up in your error messages. Something at that address is not not adding up to what the game code is expecting.

the name has different number off letters, but ive tried to change only L/R stick and i got same not responding thingy.

the black nhlinfo should have text with number of players and teams but it only returns blank. ive been tryin to edit in wscite, notepad and libre office with the same result

Hi, is this "csvtogame" my old tool from here?:

If so, it probably won't work. I wrote that for NHL95PC version.

yes indeed it is. as you can see from the screens in the first post it did work but then something happened and it stopped working. gametocvs still extracts the attributes file so i can edit it but i cannot make cvstogame to work.

i think i can change attributes but i cant open database with wnhlinfo after i use cvstogame but im not sure. i dont want to screw my work ive done so far

atm im renaming playernames so i might find out whats wrong by the time im done or maybe you can "make" one for the '94 ^^

Pure luck that it did work at least partly. :)

I suppose you did not add any free agent players? Those are not included code and therefore can cause problems.

no just trying to rename existing ones and edit their stats. even if i only change stick side L->R or R->L or edit entire attributes i cant open database with WNHLinfo after editing.

also im starting to suspect nhl.com rosters arent the best place to look for players 😕

my goal 1st is just to update existing teams to current date and when thats done and workin add new teams and maybe add player pics

You can just open my ROM ZIP, take the roster CSV that is in there, and use that to get started. Alternately, I use MoneyPuck and PuckPedia for my roster information. NHL.com is the best place for official player name spelling, the most up-to-date weights, but not much else.

cheers.

done with all the player names, numbers and lines now started work on attribs and stick side.

your attrib file has a "RGH" attrib which i dont know what it is and it also lacks faceoff and shot/bias attrib values so i guess ill have to get some creativity and math in action

oh sorry, I just saw this now! RGH IS the Shot/Pass bias attribute! And FYI, my Shot/Pass bias attribute is based on the previous three seasons of shot attempts /60, conformed to a bell curve.

I just started playing this again recently and didn't realize that in the season mode, the trade players option never fails like it does a lot in the NHL95PC version. Anyone know why that is?

Was it the addition of Anaheim and Florida that made the game so glitchy? I've probably made 50 trades in my season mode and not once has the game crashed. Whereas in NHL95PC, it's better just setting up your team in the central registry and not making any trades during the season because it crashes so much and screws up the rosters.

Anyone else notice this?

I'm wondering if maybe your config.sys settings are messed up. There is something in the manual about setting buffers to a certain value. Without that setting, season mode doesn't work properly in 95. It doesn't work properly in 94 either (but maybe the buffers setting is lower for 94?). I remember this was something me and my brother couldn't figure out when we first got NHL94 on PC as to why season mode would crash when we tried to move the season mode forward using the merge option..

that's interesting, might have to look into it and compare. Right now, I'm having no issues with the trading/merging in NHL94.. almost done month 1 in the season.

Maybe i'll compare the config.sys settings for each game as I have both of them installed and see if there's a difference.

I’ve added the troubleshooting sections from the NHL 94 & 95 pc manuals. I think you need to make sure you have enough conventional memory, and you need to make sure your memory configuration is correct, and have files=30 and buffers=30 in your config.sys
