How To Select Edit Lines of the CPU team in 1 player mode? How? (NHL95)

Recommended Posts

Can i ask a question? Unlike the other NHLs while playing against the CPU in NHL95 I cannot get access to the other teams edit lines unless it's in only 2 player mode. When using  a Emulator I attempt to swap the controller to try to do what I do sucessfully on the other games in the series. Is there anybody that knows some working trick or work around this issue with NHL95? I also cannot select sides within the pause menu like you can in a few of the other games. And  I'm specifically talking about the Sega Genesis version of NHL95.

If it's impossible in this iteration somebody please let me know!

This probably isn't the answer you were hoping for, but if the 2nd controller trick doesn't work, you can instead edit the game itself using the "NOSE" editor, which can be downloaded for Windows here (read the instructions carefully, there are several supporting things to download in order to run this old software)

Okay Thanks. Yeah I'm probably totally out of luck there because I don't even own a PC. Unless somebody somehow (including the Experts like you!) could do it for me (I know thats unlikely) on this site and post a download here of that kind of fix of the standard original Nhl95 Rom? No big deal but yes of course that would be great. I don't own a PC right now and have no intention of getting one. I have Not owned or used a Windows PC for about 7 years now. Probably doing it for me wouldn't even work anyway correct? Would be very nice though! LOL!

Since I don't own a PC I play the Nhl Roms on a Amazon Tablet. I most often use a Genesis Emulator for Android called EMU MD XL by Pentawire. I also don't play using a real controller either. I  just like to use the TouchPad controls on the emulator.

Im wondering does the work necessary using the NOSE editor for what I'm trying to fix in NHL95 over this controller issue one that is a possible one time thing or is it something abit more complicated? Meaning could the fix be made on the Rom by someone and then simply saved into a download and then its good to go? Just wondering if it could even work that way or not with this one particular issue I have with NHL95?

Is there anyone that knows the answer? Just will say  If anyone is up to try it for me if it is possible I'd be  grateful. If not well yeah I'm out of luck because I'm not planning on buying any new Windows PC to do it. Please anyone reply if they understand or have expertise with Nose, and the NHL95 Rom and knows well the answer to my question. Thanks.

Does NOSE allow the 2player trick for edit lines Away team  in NHL95 with 2nd controller somehow?

It works Normally in all the other NHL games.

Just wondering because I would like that feature or trick to work in Nhl95.

I always never understood this about Nhl95. Do you know why?

NHL '95(1).zip

Here's the NHL95 Original  Sega Genesis version Rom. If it can be edited in NOSE as I suggest by someone (anybody willing) and then reposted as a "edited" download  (assuming it works that way) that would be welcome.

And I Do Not own a Windows PC!

Well I also now assume the only way to solve the problem is by editing in NOSE the players on the away team I'd want for the cpu team?

Welll No that's not what I'm interested in. I'm just interested if there is any way to get the 2nd player controller functional in 1player mode to do the trick again of say Nhl94, etc when playing on a emulator? I select player 2 controls on emulators that can  feature it, but it never works on Nhl95.  Anybody have a definitive answer or even a solution?

Did even the original game of Nhl95 (when on a Real console, not emulator) with 2 controllers do that trick anyway?

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't think using the second controller to edit lines in '95 is possible. If I were to venture an educated guess, I would say that is because of its unique game engine. For Genesis/MegaDrive anyway, '92, '93 and '94 are all built on the same engine. '92 just goes straight to the game play after the match-up screen so it doesn't give you the opportunity to mess with the CPU team's lines [you actually can't even edit lines in the game anyway], but '93 and '94 will.

'96, '97 and '98 are all built on the same engine as well and you can also mess with the CPU team's lines or pull the goalie on it. '97 and '98 also added a menu option to switch teams in the middle of a game so you can even play as them or add a second player mid-game if you wanted. I think being a turncoat could mess up how the game thinks you won/lost in a playoff run, but I might be misremembering that.

Anyway, the problem here is that '95 is built on a unique engine when compared to the rest in the series and while it has a completely different menu setup and allows you to play a season mode where you can play every single game, it does not seem to support controlling a team that you did not specifically select in the Controller Setup screen.

So yeah, unless you wanted to permanently edit the lines in NOSE, I'd have to say that you are out of luck there.

Thankyou for replying. It's actually Good Answering my question as its very  Helpful actually more than Not because its now known that its not possible and you even described why. I'm not surprised really as I figured it to be as you mentioned.  Thankyou for describing the issue with Nhl95 as to why.

No edits are needed for NOSE from me.  In Nhl95 I can (and Do) just Release players or Trade them for ones I don't and do want on the CPU team to manage that restriction in the game thanks to it at least  having those features built in. Unlike Nhl94.

Thankyou Sir for answering a question I had about this one Game for years. It's helped settle the mystery with NHL95 for me! I will still play the Nhl95 Roms regardless. And recently  Ultramagnus claims he's back working on many Roms for Nhl95!

Thankyou Sir!
