downloading roms help

Hello, I have the original all set up and can play that , playoffs and 2v2 but every time I try to download a different ROM like 2026 94 edition I get the window asking what app  to open with....how do I get to be a zip file or something I can extract

So, what's missing here is you need to save those .bin (ROM) files to the same directory in RetroArch. Double clicking them won't launch RetroArch. 

Let me know if youn need help getting the path to where you need to save them.

thanks I may need that as I still cannot save them anywhere to open and load

Check this short video out. It shows where to save the files in the Retroarch folder and how to load the Core and the ROM. The RA menu looks a little different here but it acts the same. When loading the Core in the RA menu, think of it as picking which console to use (Gens in this case). The ROM is like the cartridge you're popping into the console. The first time you want to play a game, you have to load the Core (console), then load the ROM (game). From then on you can simply go into the RA menu and History to select a recent ROM you want to play. Otherwise you can click on Load ROM in the RA menu and it'll load right up.
