Top 5 best & worst teams

Recommended Posts

Post your best and worst teams (and why). Here's mine:

BEST

1. Detroit. An offensive juggernaut with Yzerman, Ciccarelli, Federov and Coffey all being all star caliber players. All three forwards have an awesome combination of speed and shot power/accuracy. And Coffey is arguably the best offensive defenseman in the game (honorable mentions to Housley and Bourque). Tim Cheveldae isnt a top tier goalie, but he's good enough to keep Detroit on top as the best of the best.

2. Chicago. Roenick & Belfour says it all. Best forward in the game combined with the best goalie in the game. Roenick's combination of speed, shot power & accuracy, and checking, is unbeatable. His supporting cast isn't great, but Larmer is decent and after subbing off Goulet for either Murphy or Ruutu, that's a decent offensive line. Chelios and Steve Smith make up a great defensive combo. With Belfour behind them, they could be the best defensive team that also posesses the #1 forward in Roenick.

3. Boston. Far and away the best defensive pairing in the league. Sweeney is an absolute monster. Best checker in the game. Bourque is solid defensively and posesses what might be the most lethal slapshot in the game (power/accuracy both in the high 90's). Oates has great wheels and playmaking ability. Neely is a bit overrated as he can't hold on to the puck very well, but he's got a good shot. Juneau is a solid wing option. The big weakness on Boston is the goaltending. Moog/Blue are very mediocre. I've had greater success with Blue personally. If they had a decent goalie, they could be the #1 team in the game.

4. Los Angeles. Gretzky, Sandstrom and Robitaille rival Detroit's threesome as the best offense in the game. I give Detroit a slight edge, but Sandstrom has a wicked shot and so does lucky Luc. Gretzky's shot is lacking, but he makes up for it with his speed, playmaking, and suprising checking ability. The great one seems to have a hand in nearly every goal scored by LA. Subbing off Mcsorley for a great D-man in Zhitnik helps alot too. Like Boston, goaltending is LA's achilles heel. Hrudey is a bit better than Moog/Blue, but he still lets in his fair share of weak goals.

5. Buffalo. Top 5 player Mogilny is an explosive offensive force. When you pair that with Lafontaine and Hawerchuk, you've got a very solid offense. Svoboda and Smehlik make up a solid yet unspectacular defensive line. Fuhr is the third best goalie in the game though, which makes Buffalo a lock for the top 5.

Honorable mention: Calgary, Vancouver, Quebec.

WORST

1. Florida. A line of Skrudland, Lomakin and Mellanby is just pathetic. These guys are so slow and have no nose for the puck. Nobody on the team has an above average shot. Gord Murphy is an OK Dman and Beezer is a passable goalie, but these are dim lights in the midst of an otherwise horrific team.

2. Anaheim. Yake, Semenov and Loney are about as scary as a bucket of hair. Sure, Yake can do a few things offensively, but with that supporting cast he's on his own. It doesn't get any better either with Kasatonov and Ladoucer on D and Hebert in nets. Shudder.

3. Ottawa. I've actually had some success with Ottawa, as I'm a big fan of Maciver and a few of their darkhorse bench players (Smail, Lamb, Berthaume). But in reality, they are slow, inept offensively and defensively, and fully deserving of a bottom 5 ranking.

4. San Jose. Kisio, Falloon, Gaudreau on O and Wilson, Wilkinson on D. Irbe in nets before he was good. This team stinks. The saving grace for the Sharks are their great player names. Peter Ahola and Robin Bawa forever!

5. Tampa Bay. I know I'll probaby get some flack for this, but aside from Bradley, T-Bay just isn't any good in '94. Bradley, Kontos and Andersson are mediocre, Beers and Hamrlik are even worse, and Wendell Young is one of the worst starting goalies in the game. Pat Jablonski anyone?

Your thoughts?

Are you a Gens or SNES player? I only ask b/c if you are Gens, how can you not have Montreal in your top 3?

Gens:

1. Chicago

2. Montreal -- some would say Montreal should be 1 and I can see their point, this is just a personal preference

3. Detroit

4. Buffalo

5. Calgary

1. Detroit

2. Calgary

3. Montreal

4. Toronto

5. Quebec

1. New York Rangers

2. Dallas Stars

3. Ottawa Senators

4. Anaheim Ducks

5. San Jose Sharks

Where is Chicago you ask? I cant stand them because i am a bum with Roenick, so whats the point of the team then?

The Rangers are first because i have yet to win an online game with them where as with everyother team, i have won atleast one, they just have absolutely no team chemistry and no such thing as a legitimate offensive force in my hands.

Where is Florida you say? They actually have a good team in my opinion with Skrudland at center, lomakin and hough on the wings with murphy and hynes on defense makes a fordable team that has had very suprising results for me. Tampa is the same deal, good chemistry and a solid line unlike the rangers and stars who are just a bunch of fast bums who cant play.

My top and bottom 5...

1. Detroit

2. Toronto

3. New York Rangers

4. St. Louis

5. Pittsburgh

5. New Jersey

4. New Jersey

3. New Jersey (sense a pattern?)

2. New Jersey

1. New Jersey

:D

My Devils are a disgrace. They can't hit for their lives, and they fold up faster than the French Army in a slap fight with an army of Britney Spears clones.

Top:

  1. Detroit
  2. Pittsburgh
  3. Calgary
  4. Quebec
  5. Los Angeles

Bottom:

  1. Ottawa
  2. Anaheim
  3. Hartford
  4. Florida (at least away, I actually manage pretty well at home)
  5. Tampa Bay

People might wanna see San Jose at the bottom, but they are actually quite good, it's just Kisio that has really poor puck receiving most of the time. And like Florida, Sharks are far better at home than away. Regarding Pittsburgh, I understand they aren't that great on Genesis? They sure are my worst possible opponent, that's for sure and they are definitely top 5 to play with as well.

Needless to say, this list concerns Super NES.

Tampa Bay could almost crack my Top 5. With Bradley dominating at Center, Kasper is a solid checker and decent passer with either Kontos, if you want somebody that can shoot or some speed, Andersson... this is a solid group of Forwards.

The defense and goaltending all depend on how good you are as a player because with this team you need to use your Forwards on defense.

depends. Toronto and Montreal are so deep, that if subbing is on, they get the nods. if you only play with six players per team, Boston is fine. if you have penalties on, some guys with high aggression ratings "hurt" (I like being down one player, but not two!) the team. so many variables.

SNES

New York

Chicago

Los Angeles

Vancouver

Toronto

Montreal

Calgary

Boston

Detroit

too many options and variables.

My top 5 is as follows:

1. St. Louis- I know, I'm demented. But just put Hull at center and let him finish like a porn star.

2. Detroit- Best top line in the game.

3. Pittsburgh- Close contest with Detroit, less speed I guess.

4. Buffalo- Speed, skill, Grant Fuhr.

5. Los Angeles- Sandstrom is a left- handed Brett Hull clone. Gretzky, Robitaille. Too bad Hrudey sucks a hairy sack.

sleeper pick- Winnipeg! I just like using them. They have speed at the key positions. Essensa is OK enough.

Chicago is a Roenick fest and I just can't go for that. I'm sorry!

The Blues are amazing in Gens, Hull at Center is a MUST and with speedy and hitting wingers Emerson/Bassen, its an amazing Forward line.

On Defense, Brown has a solid shot and if you put Giles in, its just another solid checker on this line.

Joseph is ok, can make some big saves but is still average.
