trudatman
snes plusses:-color pictures whatever -photos for expansion team starters whatever -more detailed player cards whatever -one button goalie control crucial -one button defense control crucial -controller menu to select teams nice -slicker passing whatever -skating on offense is easier to perform nice -players actually have blades to skate on whatever -hats thrown for hat tricks on both sides of the ice and different colors whatever -more varied goal celebration motions whatever -defenders tend to stay back nice -indepth player-goalie battles nice snes minuses: -inability to save lines yep -no user records whatever -password function for playoffs whatever -way too easy to commit a penalty on breakaways yep -pokecheck is woefully ineffective wrong -major league hooking by the AI which is very rarely penalized whatever -one timers have to be extremely perfect wrong -slappers are nearly useless yep -skating on defense isnt up to standards to play tight d against such slick offensive skating whatever -checking seems largely random at times wrong -relatively few ways to score wrong - rare ones are just rare, like they should be -way too many posts wrong - maybe a few too many, but the Genesis version has way too few -way too many interference calls wrong - only guys with bad reputations with the referees that crash the net get called, unless you are getting blasted by a checking manual goaltender -dead silent crowd whatever -no highlights in intermission whatever - they exist in playoff modes where they actually matter -no stat numbers when goals are scored whatever -goalies seem largely the same since they all fall for the same dekes whatever -goalies are rather easy to deke yep -games can degenerate into deke contests wrong - learn to play goalie, it's the luxuriously awesome part of the SNES version Gens plusses: -floaters (backhand floaters are especially sexy) whatever - they are too common instead of rare fluky plays that sometimes surprise the netminder -more varied gameplay, thus more strategies can be used wrong -goalie-player battles can be just as intense whatever - is this a draw, then? -weight bug you must be kidding Gens minuses: -puckhandling through traffic isnt as clean whatever -pass goals (depends on view) wrong - works in SNES, too (maybe not as much, but, again, rare like real) took out repeated stuff, mostly. addressed a bunch of stuff I felt was off with that analysis. pretty exciting. really did this because I showed somebody this thread and wanted to touch on stuff I had yet to argue against. The Russian Rocket
Gens playoffs: Miriad of goals more beautiful than the others. Snes Playoffs: Gay breakaway contest.
trudatman
oh, I just remembered that the Genesis version has that faceoff pass fivehole issue, maybe that's what was meant by pass shot (I assumed an aimed pass at the net). that faceoff trick does kind of suck and the handcuffed goaltending seals the deal on how bad that sucks, too. well, fivehole goals are extremely rare in SNES (like too rare), so that almost comes close to maybe kind of balancing out that Genesis fail. or not.
