[4] Ottawa Senators vs. [5] Vancouver Canucks

GAME 1 in Ottawa: The Vancouver Canucks upset the Sens 5-1 in Ottawa during a game where for once, Bure wasn't the biggest factor. That's right, it wasn't Bure that really changed the game, it was Bill Ranford. He made tons of key saves as he led the Canucks to their 1st win in the GDL3 Playoffs. Not only did he make 17 saves on 18 shots, the most all season, but he recorded 2 assists as well. Truly he was an incredible force as the Canucks looked to carry the momentum of the 5-1 win into game 2.

GAME 2 in Ottawa: As the Canucks were trying to carry their momentum into game 2, the Senators were trying to stop that from happening and, once again as you might not expect, Bure was not a factor in this one. The Sens made some great plays resulting in a 3-1 lead early in the second period, but the Canucks fought back scoring 2 goals; one from Linden and another from defenseman Paul Coffey. The score was tied 3-3 but yet again the Senators struck back with two more goals from Kamensky and Sakic, both great one timer plays. With under two minutes left, the Canucks needed 2 goals to tie, and they were a determined group. Paul Coffey scored his 2nd of the game on a beautiful breakaway pass from Joe Nieuwendyk with 1:30 to go. Then, as the clock was ticking down from 10, Bure broke loose with the puck on the left wing and skated into the zone with a defender on his right. He moved in tried to fake the backhand and take a quick forehand shot topshelf. It didn't work, the comeback could not be completed, and the Sens won the game 5-4 in a thriller.

GAME 3 in Vancouver: Finaly, Pavel Bure decided to show up and play some great hockey as the Sens came into Vancouver hoping to take a 2-1 series lead. The first period ended with a 2-0 score for the Nucks, the goals being just 9 seconds apart as Bure tore up the defense right off the faceoff and scored to get his second of the game. In the second period, Joe Sakic scored on another beautiful one timer play as Bure sat in the penalty box, that made it a 2-1 game. But then, Bure attacked again, in Bure-like fashion. With under a minute left in the second period Bure scored on a 1 on 1 past defender Alexei Zhitnik and past Chris Terreri to make it a 3-1 game. Bure scored again one minute into the third making it 4-1. The Sens didn't go down without a fight, scoring two goals from the 2 Z's, Zhamnov and Zhitnik. But of course Bure bounced back and scored a PP goal and assisted Nieuwendyk to make it 6-3. Sakic scored late, but it wasn't enough as the Canucks won 6-4 at home in game 3 of the first round of the GDL3 Playoffs.
