No Miracles For The Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks could not muster up any miracles this time as the Canucks dropped the series 4-1 against the incredible Winnipeg Jets team.

Game 4: In game 4, the Vancouver Canucks were hoping they had enough to win 4 straight, so they came out with lots of energy. Shot after shot, Beaupre made save after save. Until 4 minutes in Bure struck gold and it sent the fans in a frenzy. After the first two periods, the score was tied 2-2. Now it was clutch time, the Canucks needed a win or they would be eliminated. Just 9 seconds into the third though, Modano scored an easy backhand and the Jets were up by 1. The Canucks didn't go down without a fight though, scoring two goals in less than a minute, both from Joe Nieuwendyk. Modano scored about a minute later to make it a tie game, which the Canucks and Jets had seen WAY too many times. The game tied 4-4, under two minutes to go, the Canucks played the most hardest working hockey of their lives. Who else but Pavel Bure scored with 2:06 to go to make it a one goal game. Then Mike Modano scored with under a minute left in the game, 42 seconds to be exact to tie the game up again. Just 10 seconds later, a determined Pavel Bure rushed into the zone and floated one home, making the fans go nuts. The icing on the cake, Joe Nieuwendyk potted home a onetimer from a beautiful pass from Bure with just 13 seconds remaining to send a determined team to Winnipeg to try and force a Game 7.

Notes: There were 8 total goals in the third period. This is the first time in 6 meetings this season that a game hasn't gone into OT.

Game 5: The Vancouver Canucks had loads of faith coming into this game in Winnipeg after that outstanding 7-5 win against a tough Jets team, but it did not start good for the Nucks. Just 11 seconds in Mike Modano sprung through the lowly Vancouver D and potted one home to make a quick 1-0 lead. Pavel Bure did not want the season to end, so he put in his best effort to get a slick floater goal with a minute remaining in the first period. 30 seconds later though, Verbeek fools Ranford and scores an easy one, making it 2-1 at the end of the first. If the Canucks wanted to win again, they would need the best hockey of their lives. But unfortunately, it was the other way around as the Canucks were sloppy and slow, resulting in 3 Winnipeg goals in the second period which made it 5-1. Vancouver had almost no chance to win, so they mixed up the lines a bit, putting Bure at Center. It worked to no avail as the Canucks could not do anything, which ended their terrific season.

Series MVP: Don Beaupre. He played unbelievable for someone with such a low overall, making amazing save after amazing save. He made tons of game saving saves which resulted in a 5 game series win for Winnipeg.

Unsung Hero: Chris Dahlquist. He made numerous amounts of key checks in the defensive zone, as well as making key assists en route to Winnipeg victories.

THE BIG QUESTION: Did Pavel Bure play his last game as a Canuck? I sure hope not.

Great series kgman, it was great fun to play that exciting series, good luck the rest of the way. :)
