  1. Move to Chicago, convince @angryjay93 to do the same, and I may be forced to move my annual tournament there. It wouldn't suck.
  2. @mort1237 very much appreciate what you guys are doing in the Windy City. I hope other similarly motivated individuals will start meeting up in their own respective communities to drive interest in this timeless classic. On another note, hopefully you can get an additional player or 2 to make the journey with you guys in February. Thanks, Trojan

Stand alone Tecmo players will pay $20 for Friday night only. Payment will be be via Paypal to trojan1979@gmail.com, please use friends and family option to avoid the fees Paypal charges. Funds will be refunded if notice is given up to 2 weeks preceding the tournament. Children aged 10 or older may participate with their parent/guardian for only $10 per day. Format : Group play will precede bracket play, first Genesis, then SNES. There is an initial 50 player cap for this tournament. The venue has expended and improved since our 2018 tournament. Our goal is to have at least 14 systems of each in play, minimizing the wait time in between games. Group seeding will be based on the official NHL94 rankings as created and maintained by @smozoma Bracket play will consist of a single elimination best of 3 series. Higher seed will pick tier and be player 2/home team for game 1 and 3(if needed), lower seed is Player 1 and will be home for game 2. The number of participants in bracket play will be decided closer to the event as we know how many players will actually be in attendance. Rules : 5 minute periods, penalties on, no offside, manual goalie. If it's in the game, it's in the game. No game mechanics are banned. Examples are pass shots, CB checks, hail mary shots, goalie interference goals, rebound goals on penalty shots, etc. A coin flip winner will be the home team(player 1) and call the tier for team selection. The opposing player is the away team(player 2) and chooses which team they want based on the tier selected. You may select from within or below the tier specified. Example: Player 1 selects Tier 2. That removes DET, BUF, CHI, VAN, MTL from selection in that matchup. Player 1 chooses CGY, Player 2 selects BOS. There are no restrictions how many times you call a tier or select a team based on the tier selected. Genesis tiers are as follows and are subject to change based on community feedback(Tiers are currently specified per Angryjay93): Tier 1: DET, BUF CHI, VAN Tier 2: MTL, LA, CGY, WPG, BOS Tier 3: QUE, DAL NYR, TOR Tier 4: PHI, EDM, WSH, PIT Tier 5: NJD, STL, HFD, NYI Tier 6: TB, SJ, OTW, ANH, FLA SNES Tiers are forthcoming Games cannot end in a tie. A new game must be started in the event of a tie game at the end of overtime. Intentional time wasting in your own zone is prohibited. You must attempt tadvancing the puck into the opposing zone whenever possible. Players caught abusing this may have goals deducted, or in extreme cases the game awarded to the opposing player. Players are required to take a photo of their score and report to the scorekeeper. There is a 6 goal deficit mercy rule. The game is over once a 6 goal difference is reached. 6 goals is the max goal differential counted. Players are permitted to bring their own OEM or approved 3rd party controllers. All other equipment is provided by us. Having equipment on hand from volunteers as spares is always appreciated, but not required. Payout : 100% of entry funds taken in from child entries will be paid out, 50% to each bracket. For each $40 entry, $15 goes to the SNES bracket, $15 to the Genesis bracket, the remaining goes to cover expenses. An approximate 60/30/10 split payout will be for each bracket to 1st/2nd/3rd place. (Tecmo will have a 75% payout to the top 3 places 60/30/10) Hotel Accommodations :There are multiple locations within 2 minutes driving distance, including one that can be walked to from the venue. We are working on setting up a group rate and will update this thread when we have it. We are about 3 minutes from the Airport in Green Bay. For those wondering where to stay, the Hotel J is a 2 minute walk away from the venue, or a 10 minute crawl if you overindulge. Hotel J Address: 2620 S Packerland Dr, Green Bay, WI 54313 Phone: (920) 499-1900 We do recommend you eat your breakfast elsewhere besides Hotel J based on prior participant feedback. Food and Drink at Venue : It is asked that while you are still in contention for said tournament that you remain on premise. There is pizza and bottled beer available to order from the Edge VR Arcade, and is priced reasonably. At this time there are no carry ins permitted unless you have special dietary restrictions(please contact us about those in advance). If you leave the venue and we have to wait on you, you risk forfeiture of your game(s). What types of systems are used for this? : All screens used are CRT using analog connections(typically composite), which means no input lag. All Genesis systems and controllers are OEM, or Gamerztek brand clones. SNES are a mix of 1st gen, model 2, and NOAC clone units(again mostly Gamerztek). All controllers are either OEM or Cirka, Hyperkin, or Gamerztek brand clones, which work very well. You are welcome to use and bring your own OEM controller. Will this be streamed? : Yes, unless otherwise stated you can follow the action on https://www.twitch.tv.tgfnretro The Retro Sports Gamer will also be streaming a 2nd station on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_b9V5HP0eJZyLuhuEmDf_g?pbjreload=10 Can I dress up in hockey attire? : Yes, you will basically be put in the sin bin if you don't get into character. How can I help the tournament organizers? : In addition to committing early to attend we ask that you share the existence of this tournament, early and often, on all forms of social media. Make travel plans early, and lock in so we know you are coming. Bring new players, and make a weekend of it. Will there be additional prizes? : In addition to cash prizes, and Lord Manly's Cup, we plan on having many different hockey related prizes for giveaway available. All entrants will be eligible for some prizes just for being there. We may hold a raffle to support a cause, but haven't finalized that just yet.
  4. I must have neglected to post this here, but we did lock down another sponsor. If you are planning on playing Tecmo with us Friday night, free pizza will be provided courtesy of Titletown Financial Services LLC. Mike and Mike(can't make this up) from TFS will be playing Tecmo with us, and it's possible one of the Mikes will be with us for NHL94 as well. You are encouraged to ask them questions about finance, to distract them during your games with them, which should ultimately get you a win. Thanks Mike and Mike!

NHL 2000 problem - face palette

If someone has the answer great, but keep in mind this is site focused on NHL94 and other 16 bit 90's hockey versions, and not the PC versions 2K and beyond. I'm not saying your question can't be answered, or someone here doesn't have the answer, just understand the audience. I hope you can find your answer bud. Peace.
  6. He's coming back! Yes Ahman Green the Packers all time leading rusher will be there to play and commentate with us all weekend long!
  7. Here's a map on our represented states so far.
  8. Went live to discuss tournament prizes and sponsorships tonight. Skip ahead a few minutes if you want to skip the awesome NHL94 Sega CD music.

    NES RBI Online Tournament

Yeah I don't play RBI often, like not enough to improve between attempts. That being said I played in a fun tournament held by the Retro Sports Gamer. You had to pick the retro game out of a chip in a bag to determine what game you were playing. The games in play were RBI Baseball for NES, NBA Jam TE for Genesis, NHL94 for Genesis, and Tecmo Super Bowl for NES. Angryjay and I were arguably the best two NHL94 players present, but that means jack when you pull out a chip for RBI against RBI studs. I did share the link in their Discord. I know they focus hard on regular local meetups.

    NES RBI Online Tournament

I know quite a bit of people that play locally, and are excellent at this game. Perhaps if we can use this to bring them into the community a bit deeper. Most of them are Chicago guys that I competed with along with @angryjay93 this past weekend. Although you guys are probably using Retroarch, there is a much better online experience to be had using the Brudtopia emulator that we use to play Tecmo Super Bowl. If you already have port forwarding setup for RA, you can tell the program to host using the same emulator. There is also a record/playback feature in the emulator for those that want to try that. This is the emulator I use for our online Tecmo Super Bowl tournament play, and as long as people are wiring in, it plays like a dream. Here's a link for anyone that wants it. Create a folder in the c:\users directory and call it "user" without the quotes. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1t965NBt-1kbgtkySlstRJFnKyOh4IXCm
  11. Another Tecmo related update, but this is a big deal for us. We are happy to announce that the winner of the Tecmo Super Bowl tournament Feb 22nd will win automatic free entry into the Tecmo Players Championship April 6th. This tournament is run by the legendary Mort, and is a stacked high stakes marathon tournament. This is valued at $100, we are currently the first and only tournament in 2019 awarded this privilege. Don't wait and get signed up today! tinyurl.com/2019NHL94
  12. I've been told our friend @MikeGartner22 will be joining us and has booked his flight already. I'm sure his signup will come later this week officially. It's always great when we add a 1st time player from our long established community!
  13. Our friends at Press Start Games have donated gift cards to be given away during NHL94 tournament. Their store is amazing, and they also gave us very low priced Genesis hardware to add to our capacity.
  14. We secured a huge sponsorship prize given to use by Player 2 Arcade Bar for available to win by anyone daring enough to compete in the Friday night February 22nd Tecmo Super Bowl tournament! Want to win this signed jersey? Just compete for $10 more with your paid 94 tournament entry, and you have a chance to win this by drawing!
  15. We are giving away an awesome Wayne Gretzkey Kings McFarlarlane's figure. Head on over to Facebook to see how to win this great prize, while helping us spread the word on the tournament!
  16. We are helping a fellow tournament player(Ryan Murdock aka Ryan Kent) by spreading the word on his family member's cancer benefit in Green Bay. We are going to award free entry to someone who share's our post on Facebook, and for every paid entry between now and Jan 23rd, we will be donating $10 to the cause, up to $150. Please go to this post and share it, and tag Edge of 94 WI using the "@" so we know you heard about it from us. https://www.facebook.com/events/266645277532014/permalink/288425945353947/ is the link to the benefit. If you can't attend the benefit but wish to donate something to be raffled or make a donation, make a post on that event thread so you can be directed on how to make a donation. Thanks for your help buds, they sure could use some.
  17. Thanks to all who took advantage of the early bird signup! As it stands January 1st, we have 17 players already signed up/paid, which is just under half of our total turnout last time. The prize drawings for early signup will be conducted and distributed the day of the tournament. In the coming days and weeks, we will be aggressive on social media, trying to get the word out. Those that help us in our cause will have additional opportunities to win prizes. Please stay tuned on our social media platforms. Descriptions of what to do with a specific post will be on said post. Things like tagging friends in posts, sharing the post, commenting, and ultimately, if a tagged person signs up will all increase your chances of winning said prize. This will be spelled out clearly, and the giveaways will be done on Facebook live. If you haven't yet, please like us on Facebook, and mark yourself going or interested on our event page for "Barry Melrose Place" https://www.facebook.com/gbnhl94/ is our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/485900961920955/ is our event page. @trojanvoice is the Twitter account to follow. 2018 NHL'94 Bud of the Year (your turn to vote)

All are great choices. Arda having been in multiple spotlights adds another layer of legitimacy of our community in the Esports conversation. He surely is building a brand of himself as "go to guy" in the Esports world, especially in the retro conversation. It was a pleasure to have him in Green Bay, and his commentary was beyond entertaining. As an aspiring amateur, I definitely look up to what he's accomplished. AJ is the epitome of humble, traveled, accomplished, and mentor when it comes to 94. The fact that he even came back after being struck down by illness in Green Bay to force 3 games against Kingraph puts him in a special place. It would have been nice to see them battle it out in Vancouver again. Chaos is continually seen helping buds online get different solutions working for playing their games, and then of course league management. As far as online NHL94 is considered, there is no better resource out there. I submit there is a choice that many of you don't even know exists. Tom Stahnke the Retro Sports Gamer has done a tremendous job (re)introducing NHL94 to the greater Chicago community, and greatly supported our tournament back in February, and will be doing so again in 2019. His coverage of the Green Bay tournament was stellar, stable, and a great add when we had issues with our own stream. Without him we would have lost great games to the void. The video documentation of player vs player completion on the local level is something that doesn't exist in great abundance. I feel his efforts will continue to be instrumental in the growth and development of players for years to come. This year he held a NHL94 Genesis tournament in Chicago that attracted the likes of Angryjay93, EA, and Brutus, while bringing a bunch of other retro gamers into NHL94, many of which will be at our Green Bay tournament in 2019. In addition, this January he is running a 4 retro sports tournament consisting of Tecmo Super Bowl, NBA Jam TE, RBI Baseball, and NHL94 on Genesis. They are also(with the help of legendary Tecmo player Mort) starting a local NHL94 Gens league. Tom would never ask for this recognition, either in nomination or actual victory. He's actually pretty poor at 94 at this point(who cares). I wanted to take a moment and share that what he's doing is special, and the community should be aware of it, even if he doesn't live in the forums or our Discord. You can find him on YouTube and should subscribe. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_b9V5HP0eJZyLuhuEmDf_g?pbjreload=10

    Defending Those Cheesy Crease Cuts

I prefer stacking as many defenders in the path of a would be one timer recipient, then try and skate manual with the goalie whenever possible.
