  1. Remaining Old School League coaches check in here so I know that you are still participating in the league. We have lost 6 coaches and are now down to 10 teams. I have seen almost no activity in the past week or so (maybe because of holidays) and I need to know if the coaches are still interested.

I think I've pissed some of the coaches off, so if you no longer want to participate let me know so I can close down the league move on to another project.

I need to have all the coaches to check in for me to want to keep this going. The deadline is Wednesday 9 January.

  2. OK, OK. B)

So the first season of Gens Old School League has all but fallen apart. I had coaches dissappear on me and I've pissed others off with my Nazi-like approach to getting games played. SO, what I was thinking was that it would be fun to put on an invitational tournament every month or so. I'm a looking for a large amount of interest to go forward with this idea. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to scrap the Gens Old School League all together, but I think that a breif tournament will keep the demand for gameplay short and will not require a long period of commitment seeing as how you can do your best-of-seven series all at once. Here is my potential criteria:

    Game: NHL08 rom

    Series: Best of 7

Teams: 8 or 16 teams depending on popularity

    Seedings: First come, first served

  3. Although I agree with your hard stance on the checkpoint, this moves puts teams like hokkee and myself out of playoffs we were fighting for the last spot and now that spot is gone. leave top four teams throw the dogg a bone man. I was looking forward to a potential playoff spot. 500 hockey should sneak in to last spot. Reconsider mike. I feel like I was just tased in the nutz

So 8 out of 10 teams should make the playoffs? If that's the case, why not have everyone make the post season? I know it sucks; your preaching to the choir but take it up with the coaches that didn't complete their games by the checkpoint. I'm not going to make the postseason either, but I don't think we should have that many people playing in the postseason. I mean with the pros, 50% at best make the playoffs.

This season has been a bust and I don't know weather or not I'll be doing another. I think it would be easier and more fun to just post an announcement for an invitational tournament every so often that I'll run.

    Sorry man...

  4. But come on, myself and StL coach were only a couple games behind.

I just wanted to make sure you knew what other leagues were doing.

If you knew that you were coming up on the deadline, why did you not try to get a couple of those games in? I'm on basically every night and I hardly ever see you on. We had another game to play but I could never find you. I haven't seen the St. Louis coach on in weeks. I have to assume that if you didn't complete your games, you weren't interested in playing. I posted the notices over a week ago.

Again, why didn't you e-mail me and ask for an extention? I am not the other leagues. Those commissioners can run them how they want. I'm trying to keep the league moving. We have other coaches that are almost done and I don't think they enjoy waiting around for everyone else to keep up on their games.

No offense, you're a good guy and I'm not holding any sort of grudge with you or anyone, but all coaches were aware of the rules.

  5. Not that I disagree with your decision, but I think its kind of harsh that you just eliminate 6 teams because a couple teams are ONLY a few games behind schedule.

Even Classic league and GDL did not eliminate teams after the 1st checkpoint.

It may be harsh, but I have posted notifications here and on the league site telling the coaches that they are expected to complete 15 games by the 31 December time frame. If you needed more time, then I should have been notified. The Old School League was created to knock out the seasons quickly so other (newbies) coaches can have a go at league play instead of waiting months for a season to start up.

It sucks because it's completely ruined the first season, but the coaches that are still in the league were well beyond 15 games before the checkpoint. Not to "toot my own horn" but I work up to 10 hour days during the week but still find time during the day or weekend to play a few games. I don't think its hard to knock out 2-4 games in a week as long as your dedicated which is what being in a league is all about.

This is not a knock on you or any other members of this site in any way, shape, or form. Especially to you gr8199 since you were the first coach I played and basically got me started. I want everyone to understand the method to my madness.

I am wondering if a league is even worth it. I have downtime at work to keep up with administering it, but if this is going to continue to happen (as it seems it will based on some recent forum posts) maybe I'll just start hosting invitational tournaments.

  6. The following are hereby eliminated from the Gens Old School League for not meeting the 15 game checkpoint. There are a couple of coaches that were only a game or two behind, but what is true for one is true for all.

All coaches still in the league will recieve forfit wins for games NOT YET PLAYED against these teams. If you feel this is unfair, take it up with the coaches, not me. Had they sent an e-mail or notified me through this forum of reasons for not wanting to participate or requiring an extention, I would have handeled it a different way.

No hard feeling from me; things happen.

    Boston Bruins(metzgerism)

    Philadelphia Flyers(bh1138)

    Buffalo Sabres(Vocally Caged)

    NY Rangers (Magus978)

    Tampa Bay Lightning(thegr8199kings)

    St. Louis Blues(STLhullBlues)

The league will now be 2 five team divisions with the top 3 from each division making the post-season. The division winners will recieve a first round bye. Please check the site for further information (www.freewebs.com/nhl94oldschool)

Thanks to the remaining coaches for their dedication. Now lets finish this season and get to the playoffs!

  7. OK Old School leaguers, we are upon the midseason checkpoint which is at midnight on the 31st (New Years). All coaches need to have at least 15 games completed or your team will forfit out.

Below are the teams and their coach (AIM) who are behind (Wags gets leeway due to picking up a team from another coach):

    Boston (metzgerism)----------12 games

    Philadelphia (bh1138)---------11 games

    Buffalo (Vocally Caged)-------11 games

    Tampa Bay (thegr8199kings)-2 games

    NY Rangers (Magus978)-------4 games

    St. Louis (STLhullBlues)--------1 game

Quebec (WagsTh)--------------6 games (just get em played as soon as you can)

If you know any of these coaches, let them know that time is running out. I'm not planning on replacing the coaches unless I get a message from someone who wants to pick the team up.

As stated, the coaches will be considered a forfit and all their unplayed games will be victories by FF for the coaches yet to play them. It may seem unfair, but everyone signed up with the commitment to finishing the season. If you played and lost to a coach the forfits out, complain to them not me.

The standings and divisions will be adjusted so they are equal (as they can be) if they have FF's. The playoff system will change as well if four or more FF out. It will be the top 3 teams from each division making the playoffs with the division winner having a first round bye.

Please make a note of this posting and make the other coaches aware of the possible changes coming down the line....

Today is the last day for all coaches to get caught up. Not to be a d*** or anything, but it's pretty sad to sign up for a league and not be willing to complete the season.

I don't think that asking for 15 games to be completed in a month is too much to ask.

    Boston (metzgerism)----------12 games

    Philadelphia (bh1138)---------11 games

    Buffalo (Vocally Caged)-------11 games

    NY Rangers (Magus978)-------4 games FORFIT

    Tampa Bay (thegr8199kings)-2 games

    St. Louis (STLhullBlues)--------1 game

  9. My attitude should be the least of your concerns..and your indirect shots at my skill don't say much for you. If you are indeed benefiting from this advantage you should take a long look in the mirror.

OK, the vote shows that Wags is to stay in the league, so this issue is dead to me. If either coach posts another comment about this situation, you will be kicked out. Enough is enough...play on.

  10. Michael- we all use the same ROM(NHL94.bin)..so not sure what you're talking about with respect to who hosts what game making any difference.

I am aware of the weight bug, but I've been told that there is light use of a hack in this rom to gain advantage- it basically multiplies its effect, and therefore makes it very difficult to not make contact and then go straight to the ice. It's obviously not public, but I've been told by sources that its out there, and used in league play.

If this is really an offense to kick an owner out, then so be it, it's your league Michael- I believe however that things like not playing your games, and this hack, have more serious consequences.

When a phrase like "hack" is used, I typically think of an alteration or a fix. My point with what I said is that if you claim Sebe was cheating buy using a "weight hack", it sounds to me like you are accusing him of altering his ROM with the hacking software available on this site. Being new to on-line gaming (like some of the other coaches), those words are synonamus with cheating. When a game is hosted by a coach, he uses his own downloaded ROM. So its possible to play with someone who is using an altered version ROM of the game if they are hosting, right? That is what I thought you were getting at based on the conclusion that I had drawn from your original post. And I said what I said because it didn't make sense that he could have altered the game when you were using your ROM.

Here's the deal--I don't want to kick you out, but a complaint was made and I have to abide by the rules. If I won a game and a coach did that to me, I'd take a bit of offense because your challenging credibilty. You also have to understand that since we don't speak to each other face to face, that our words in these forums are all we have to communicate. If you had just posted a thread bitching that Sebe's a punk for adjusting his line and having an "unfair" advantage, then maybe it'd be a different story. But you used words in such a manner that it reads like you called him out on cheating and the rest of the coaches would have to wonder weather he pulled it with them.

Hopefully everything will work out and we can put this behind us and finish having fun with this league.

  11. WAGS13 Posted--"FYI to the rest of the league Sebe's got the weight hack down to a science.. and the moment your player touches him its to the ice immediately.. you've been warned.."

SEBE Posted--"Firstly I take great offence to these false accusations. I have no idea what the weight hack is. All i know is that i dominated our game and i played the same players i use against every coach. I have players that are light like anyone else. I think Wags needs to learn more about the game, before he make false accusations about me cheating. I hope that everyone can understand that his claims are false, and that i am no cheater. I am well known in this community, and i treat everyone with respect. The last thing i would do is cheat anyone. I'm sure there are tons of guys out there that will vouch for me.

U need to grow up Wags and take a loss like a grown man. Also if there is some kind of weight hack thingy guys are using, I hope no one has used it on me, cause in reality you are only cheating yourself."

As comissioner, I need the leagues imput on this situation. It's basically one coaches word against another. I have no idea what a "weight hack" is or how to make it work, but I assume that it is a fix to the users ROM.

It appears that Wags (Quebec) was the home team for the game in question. The home team hosts the game and uses their ROM. That said, wouldn't Sebe have to be using HIS ROM in order for any sort of hack to work?

I know the rules state that "anyone reported and found to be abusive, disrespectful or disruptive will be removed from the league", but it sounds more like a very disgruntled coach who had a hard time taking a loss. On the other hand, posting a complaint like this instead of coming to me can be considered inappropriate.

The findings will have to be 50% or more for Wags to be removed from the league. The polls will close at the end of the weekend.

  12. Hey Michael, thanks for updating the lg results last night on the site. I just noticed one small thing... My total points are 32 and I have 21 wins. That point total should probably equal 42... unless you've put forth a rule that my wins don't count for as many points. ;-)

Good job so far as the admin this season. Keep it up!

I'll fix it...I's not too smart when it comes to the math-matics...

    Thanks...

  13. Hey Michael,

I do want to say that the P2P conneciton is nice, and I'd like to make the 'online standard' setup using the newer kailleraclient.dll file where everyone will have the option of using P2P or a Kaillera server right in Gens. All you have to do is overwrite your kailleraclient.dll file. It's certainly simple enough for guys to do.

I'll eventually make the 'official emulator' for our leagues the Gens emu with that kailleraclient.dll file since the server list comes up faster too. It's a no-lose situation since users can decide to play P2P or server very easily and quickly without changing anything.

    -Evan

    Sounds good Evan.

I do want to add that some coaches have stated to me that even though they have the updated Kaillera client, they still don't know how to use it. Or they state that it won't work when they set it up. Is there a section on your site for users on how to get their netplay options to work? I think its such a pain to have to find a server that both coaches agree on and will sync before the other coach gives up and wants to try another one. I waste more time with server play than with P2P which, when played with a coach that can use it, literally takes seconds to start up.

  14. I'm posting this because I just played an extremely frustrating game with sdogg where the play kept locking up and jumping frames. Its my own stupid fault for not stopping the game, but I assumed it would clear up. In any case I've played several games like this over a server (NOT P2P) when this has happened (wins and losses). I've never had issues when playing P2P. I HATE playing over a server and wish all coaches would just get the P2P client working properly. I've posted a link to the tutorial on how to get it set up in the instruction section of the league page.

In any case, I'd like to clear the air about this if any other coaches are having the same problem. If so, next season I'll need to implement a P2P only policy. I could be that my ISP is causing the problems but I need to know if I'm the only one.
