  1. I read the question as for the fall/spring classic leagues & not a custom league, so based my opinion/options off that.

First, I'd do team selection as an actual draft w/ a ranked selection or random order, but I always hated the selection process.

    Second, I'd have three leagues, a) B) & c).

For c, if new guys stop playing, those games are deleted and a new coach is found. Having a sub start mid season is dumb & ruins the stats for that guy & others who did/did not get to play.

Third, depending on how many play, consider splitting schedule into conferences based on time zones that guys play, & you do not play teams outside your zone till playoffs.

Shorten time for check points & get to playoffs faster, & put time slots on playoff rounds to keep momentum. Over the years a few forfeits would have been better than dragging a post season till no one cares who won.

The biggest problem seems to be guys not showing up to play. Maybe having a preseason where you have to play a minimum amount of games to be allowed in one of the leagues? That might weed out some of the guys who aren't going to make the time.

  2. I use my own set of formulas (my own bias...if I took the time, I'd come up with something that combines my own w/ ADP, but it's quick) to come up with overall for each player. Then I rank the top 4 F, top 3 D and 1G, give them weights as follows

    1F (6), 2F (3), 3F (2), 4F (1), 1D (3), 2D (2), 3D (1), 1G (1).

Thanks! So, the formula itself is a trade secret?

  3. Finally, the 3 largest variances were:

Frank Musil, drafed #98 overall by Skeletor, drafted about 74 spots ahead of his previous averages. That's quite a large variance, but at the same time I assume Skeletor was valuing speed and agilty as Frank is 4/4 in those categories. Not easily found in a defensemen at that stage of the draft.

You pretty much nailed it, although checking was also a big factor (I look at him as the Blitz equivalent of Petr Svoboda). I built my GDL team based on checking and got slaughtered by the fast teams, so my strategy was to pick size and speed for this draft. I don't like rushing with the defencemen, as that leaves me open to breakaways, so having little offence from him isn't a big deal. I also picked up Chiasson, who I can sub in for more offence if desired.

The big question for me this year is if Puppa/Hrudey can keep enough pucks out of the net for me to win a few more games than last season.
