  2. concerning the offsides debate, we already have a league where no offsides exist. Why not add to the variety by having a league where offsides are turned on?

If it came down to a vote, I would choose offsides off. But I don't see any harm to the game by having it on.

  3. I truly believe that the population that wants an entire league to play with one team is vast minority.... albeit a vocal one.

Like it has been said before, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

This league is working excellent as it is, and all that is being done to it is minor improvements and superficial "fluff", like stat tracking and the bit, which definately enhances the experience.

There seems to be a lot of guys starting up their own leagues with different philosophies (offsides, drafted teams, etc.) Perhaps you are interested in starting your own, or maybe there is someone else interested in starting a league to the constraints of one team. I know I would be interested in joining, I love playing this game no matter what the settings.

Beyond that.... Lemieux a superstar? I know he is rated 99, but he is definately not the best player in NHL94, and maybe not even top 5. I am certain I can get a lot of backup on that.

Telling me to improve my defense is nice and it sounds good, but when an all star gets hot, the best d in the world isnt going to stop him.

-Yes, a good defense can stop him. Play kgman, marc, tickenest, clockwise, gr8199, ......... list goes on and on

  4. I'm just going to throw my two cents in here:

We've had 3 leagues now, and it seems to me the consensus is no one player is going to make or break a team. If you gave up 7 goals to Lemieux, it most likely boils down to your defense. Kgboy found a weakness in your play, and exploited it with his center iceman. Yes Lemieux is a great player, but I'm sure he could've put in at least 5 of those goals with Ron Francis at C.

Practice on your defense; pick up tips from veteran players, an adjust your style of play. That is the only way to survive against some of the more cunning of coaches this community provides.

p.s. Get over the idea of the "cheap goal." Every style of scoring is defendable.

  5. After hearing all of the arguments and counter arguments, I do think that a random draft order would work the best. You don't get penalized for having a life and not being able to get the 'first come first serve' teams. Also, no one has any incentive for tanking games, and players don't get penalized for doing well.

A weighted system sounds great, but it also sounds like too much work.

p.s. The nhl 2on2 league has stat tracking. Is that going to be implemented for the next nhl94 league?

  6. I'll make my Finnish brothers a deal... Keep the trash talking amongst each other, or with other users here that want to join in "the fun", and I won't keep asking why Sweden p0wns your country on the ice ;)

    Oh, you're BAD addisonbr!!!!!

I'm sure the fins and their fine dialect will have a suitable comeback though. Is the trans-Atlantic lag too much for a Fin vs. America matchup? That would be most interesting.

  7. I really don't like the idea of making players have random team assignments. If a player is given a team, then can develop an identity with that team, as well as learn how to use that team specifically to their style. I think the current format is great, but the issue is how people are given teams. This season, I wasn't able to submit my team choice at noon for the A league because I was out somewhere. Because of that, I had a really low pick and got LA (my 9th choice I think). LA isn't bad... but they don't fit my style because of their poor defense (I make no apologies for my one dimensional style of play!)

I think the best solution would be to rank everyone based on this season's outcome, exactly how the draft is done in any pro sports league. The worst coach picks their team 1st. KGman, champion of destiny in many eyes, will choose last. This would create parity I believe.

As for newcomers to any certain league (A-league for example), have a committee of a few guys to actually play the person, and determine that player's skill level. Then they can be placed in the draft according to that skill level.

Does this sound like a reasonable idea to you guys?

  8. This would be an interesting issue to get a vote on.

It is clear there would be a more level playing field if you have only 2 games per every team. It certainly would be easy to schedule, and everyone should be able to get the 2 games in one sitting (possibly avoiding guys not getting games in / pinpointing coaches that need to be replaced.)

The obvious drawback like the deer said is the rivalries would be gone, and the race for the playoffs would be a little less intense.

As it currently stands.... with the # of teams that get into the playoffs, there really isn't a race for that.

I would favor changing the schedule into 2 games per every team. Are there any other scheduling ideas guys have?
