  1. Wags, i'm not going to allow you to play in this league.

    Until you BREAKDANCE :D!

Just kidding, the actual requirement is to beat Angryjay. You can only use Florida. He gets Chicago. You have to beat him by at least 10 goals. With your goalie pulled.

  2. Just an update so you know this thing is still alive. I've been working on this steadily with consultation from Gr8, Donch and Angryjay, and it's coming along. I'll let you guys know about some of the new things:

    Injuries

This one is being tossed around like crazy. It's something i'd love to see in the league, but working out the method for it is difficult. Basically the idea is that if a player suffers an injury in a game, there's a chance he'll suffer an injury that could put him out for multiple games. I like this as it throws a bit of a screwball at coaches. You've just lost Roenick for 10 games, and then Sandstrom gets injured for 5. It's near the end of the season and you need wins. You regret picking total scrubs at the start of the season just to fill out your lines, as now they are your primary offense. So on and so forth.

    Create Your Own Team

Because really, playing with the Blackhawks or the Pens gets old. This idea is a lot of speculation, but if implemented, would be a totally visual thing that would add an extra level of personalization into the league. You would create your own team name, logo, colors, so on and so forth. It would not affect your gameplay at all, except maybe psychological warfare (Who wouldn't be worried about an upcoming game against the Chicago Roenicks?).

    Many thanks to Donch.

  3. Angryjay is, in my eyes, at the very least in the top 3 of best overall NHL 94 players. He dominates in GENS, and look at how he's doing in SNES. He's taking a team that looked like they were done for and is bringing them back into the playoff picture. He's on a 18 game winning streak.

As for myself, I think I run somewhere between the top and middle of the vets. I'm good, but the day I can bring down Jay or EA 2 out of 4 will be a huge accomplishment for me.

  4. It will take a lot of seasons before we begin to have a problem with player shortages. Roenick didn't retire until 2007, so the rgeat one will be in the league for 13 seasons. Hell, Sundin is still going strong. However, I will toss around ideas for a solution, but again, we've got a very long ways to go before it becomes a problem.

  5. EA, you took the words out of my mouth. Me and Donch and Gr8 have been kicking around ideas for the ratings. We did have an idea that once a player gets 5 seasons away from retirement, he would have a gradual decrease of skill. Another thing would be making a algorithm for it, basing it on stats from either last season in the league, or a corresponding eason in real life. A lot will be subject to change, but one thing that will remain concrete is the bidding on players part.

Also, pertaining to the ratings, what we'll probably do is start up the first season and during it we'll keep discussing ways to do the ratings. After seeing the response here, i'm deffinetly sure I want this to start up. I'm going to start taking the neccesary steps to get the league going.

PMing Evan about a league section right now.

Right now the main things I need to get worked out are:

    1. Having a section on these forums for the league

    2. Having a website up for the league.

    3. Figure out just how exactly i'm going to do the stats. Right now i'm leaning on Donch's program, due how simple it is to use and how many stats I can get out of it. The problem with this however is that his currently only supports the original NHL 94 ROM. Donch said he's working on getting it so that any rom can be uploaded and the rosters/teams adjusted, so i'll sit tight and wait for that, as theres a lot of other stuff to work out before then.

A bit of info on how games will probably, at this point, be logged. I'll figure out how to set it up so that you guys can upload the save state to the site or possibly have it like the SNES league with a section for scores and confirming scores. However, I have to stress that this will NOT be like GDL in terms of updating. The stats won't instantly be updated. What i'll do is every night, get all of the save states downloaded to my computer, upload them to Donch's program, then update the site. This shouldn't be much of a problem though, as the schedule will be roughly like GDLs is, so I won't be swamped with save states.

Another thing is that I will not be a coach in this league. I'm going to LOVE being the commish for it, but there's no way I can play in 4 seperate leagues (GDL, SNES Nostaglia, Elite, FVHL) and commish one. Since there's a high chance that these will all we in motion around the same time, that's far too much to do. But hey, at the very least this way nobody will suspect me of giving myself an unfair advantage B).

  6. While waiting around for Evan's league and GDL to start up again, I had been kicking around the idea of starting up a league for awhile. I wanted to do something new, so at first I was kicking around the idea for salaries and a salary cap. Then, thegr8199 proposed I follow the same idea a Tecmo Super Bowl league did, and that idea is this:

    FVHL.gif

The main elements of this league are:

    Rules

    Period Length: 5 minutes

    Penalties: On, No Off-Sides

    Line Changes: Off

    Bidding for players

At the start of every season, each team gets a 48 million dollar budget along with the cap being the same. Then, the coaches will have a set period of time to select their rosters (6 Forwards, 4 Defense, 2 Goalies). This will be done by posting a topic in a sub-forum (one sub-forum for each position) with the player's name. The original post will be the opening bid on the player, and the number of seasons for the player (ex. 7 million/2 seasons). Then, any other coach can step in and place a big higher than the last one. If nobody places a higher bid within a set amount of time of the last bid (likely 24 hours), the topic will be closed, the player will be on the winning coache's roster, and the money will be taken off from his budget (NOTE: If it's a multi-season contract, then the money will be payed in equal payments at the start of every season). A coach will have to be careful of not exceeding the salary cap, or they will be forced to drop a starting line-up player and pick up another with a lower salary.

    Trading/Free Agency

There will be set periods throughout the season where gameplay will stop for awhile, and coaches' will be allowed to trade players and pick up any players in free agency. However, the teams' roster must never exceed 6 F, 4 D, and 2 G. Coach's can trade players as long they stay below the salary cap. Once the period is over, the ROM will be adjusted and released, and gameplay will resume.

    Updated Player Attributes

Every season the player stats will change based on firstly the ratings in other NHL games by EA, and secondly by the performance of their real-life counterpart in the corresponding season. Season 1 will use the original NHL 94 stats, while season 2 will use NHL 95 stats, and so on. Once the league progresses into later seasons, a method to determine player stats will be devised. The ROM will always be an updated NHL 94 one, and as such, the weight bug will remain in the gameplay.

    Rookie Draft

At the start of every season, a prospect draft will be held. There will be the same number of rookies as there are teams, thus one round of drafting. The rookies will be hand picked from the corresponding real-life NHL season (we will supply a list of players that debuted in the upcoming season), with the initial ratings based on either their ratings in EA's NHL series or their real-life rookie season stats (undecided). After the initial season, the ratings will be updated the same way all other players are. A rookie will have a 1 million/ 1 season contract when drafted. The draft will happen before the bidding (undecided).

    Player Retirement

A player will be removed from the game when his real-life counterpart retired. For example, Patrick Roy retired in the 2003 season. Since this league would be starting in the 94 season, this means that Roy would be removed from the game in the leagues 9th season.

    Expansion Draft

This is a possibility if the first season of the league is a success and if more interest is generated. It would likely work similiar to an actual NHL Expansion Draft, but smaller scale.

Every season would use the NHL '94 ROM, but just edited each season. A lot of this is still speculation and is subject to change. This topic is mostly to see if there is interest in the league before we get too far ahead of ourselves. We are looking for about 10-12 coaches to start, as we want to start small and expand. Much thanks to Gr8 and Donch for helping me out with this.

  7. DAL 5 DET 3

    DAL 8 DET 9

    DET 9 DAL 4

    DET 4 DAL 3

Great games. Also witnessed was a goal which will go down as being my favorite in terms of humor. Dino to Yzer for the one timer, puck rockets off of Sergei's ass and into the net. Sergei was credited with the goal as well.

  8. I was waiting for someone to show and complain about that. Stan, learn to play defense. Just because me and Dmac "agree" with him doesn't mean we're kissing his ass. He's an a**hole to you because you give him good reason to be.

Not to mention, read your post over. Who's being the a**hole here?

  9. It's crazy that people sometimes forget that this is a online league for a decade old game, and the point of it SHOULD be to have fun, while still have a bit of competition. This gets a bit too ridiculous sometimes.

I tried to reason with him, and to get him to apologize. It didn't go so well.

  10. Carse is a class act, I remember when I got booted out of the 07 league while on vacation, he set the wheels in motion to get me back in. Granted I still dropped out due to complications, but it was still a great thing to do.

As per actual gameplay, i've really only played Carse in league play in the draft league. 2 4-3 losses for me, but still damn good games.

And cmon, everybody can agree that Carse is damn entertaining.

  11. NES - Donated to my Grandparents house for when the kids get bored.

    PS1 - Same as NES

XBOX - Still sitting at home

    SNES - Stolen

The SNES being stolen is actually an interesting story. Burglars broke into our house, and despite there being an Xbox (with 4 controllers and countless games), and a fairly small but very nice flat screen TV sitting RIGHT beside the SNES, the SNES was stolen along with NHL 94 and 2 SNES controllers. My favorite part is that another 2 SNES hockey games (Stanley Cup Hockey was one, can't remember the other) were left sitting right beside it. In fact, i'm positive the burglar took Stanley Cup Hockey out of the SNES before leaving.

I wouldn't be suprised if the burglar was somebody on these forums :(.
