  1. For now, there's no huge issues. It looks like things are stabalizing a bit and nobody will end up over the cap, however, it looks like a lot of people will end up under the cap with very little wiggle room to fill out their roster.

It's going to be a rocky process, but at least everyone will be experienced in it for next season.

However I would like to confirm that in the even you end up over the cap, a player will automatically be dropped from your team. The player chosen will be the one with the lowest salary that also puts you under the cap. Your bid will be deleted, and the 24 hour period will NOT restart. The next bid in line wins.

  2. There is a bit of this going on. I'll say it again, it does NOT break any rules to have bids going that could place you over the budget. However, it is very, very unadvisable to do so. Next season there will be a penalty if at any point you have over your 48 million spent on contracts (SPENT, not currently bidding, mind you). This season, it being the first, I figured mistakes will be made so there is no penalty other than having to drop the players back into the pool.

So it IS allowed, but not advisable. If anything you might end up making the bidding last longer.

  3. I think I need to clear this up quickly guys before mass confusion errupts:

    Post in either this format:

X offers 5 million per season for 2 seasons

    or this format:

    X offers 10 million for 2 seasons

Technically Witt has the highest bid at 6 million per season for 3 seasons or 18 million for 3 seasons.

    Pay attention guys ;)

Edit - From now on just do (yearly salary/number of years)

    Ex) Mtl offers 6 mil/3yrs

    (6 million a year for 3yrs, 18 mil altogether)

  4. BIDDING IS OPEN

    Player attributes

    http://www.hockeydb.com/

Hockey DB (Usefull for seeing how a player did over seasons)

REMEMBER THAT THE PLAYER ATTRIBUTES ARE UPDATED EACH SEASON. THE FIRST SEASON CORRESPONDS TO THE 93-94 SEASON, SECOND SEASON TO THE 94-95 SEASON, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SIGN SOMEBODY TO A 3 YEAR CONTRACT IF THEY HAD TWO TERRIBLE YEARS AFTER A REALLY GOOD ONE.

Another good idea is to check out NHL95, 96, 97 etc. to see what the players rate.

    Good luck to all coaches.

  5. With the bidding starting away, there is a couple things you need to pay attention to make sure no mistakes are made.

    Watch your budget

There is a topic pinned that keeps track of all teams contracts, as well as their remaining budget. However, it is only updated when a player is signed, not for each offer you make. Pay very careful attention that you don't end up with only 4 million left and you still need 5 players, as then you have to start releasing players to free up cap space

    There are no duplicate players

Sorry jay, no Yake to Yake domination. For those who don't understand, 94 has a couple instances where the same player is on two different teams. You can't sign both of them, unfortunately.

    Get ALL your required players

You need 6 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Once you have all that, if you have a bit of extra cash, you CAN sign other players, but this is for no strategic purpose, only if you have an extreme sentimental bond with Terry Yake and want him on your team. Please don't use your remaining 12 million to sign 12 scrubs, or I might punch you in the throat.

*NOTE that there is a special "prize" to the coach who has the most cash remaining at the end of the bidding process*

In the even you somehow are in a position where you do not have enough cash to get all of your required players...

You will have to drop a player back into the pool. Send me a PM, your cash will be given back to you, and that player will become eligible for signing again. Please, for the love of god don't have this happen to you. It's a terrible headache.

    WHERE'D MY TOPIC GO?!?

Made a topic to make an opening bid for a player, but it's gone now? Look harder. What happened is there was more than one topic for the same player, so the topic with highest bid was kept, and the one with the lower bid was deleted.

    Pre-Season Trading

As soon as bidding starts, trading can also begin. Refer to the rulebook for what you can and can't trade, and so on. Note that if you complete a trade with another coach, both of you have to PM me the trade, and then it will be completed. Remember that when you receive a player, you have to pay his contract for the current season, so your remaining budget could go up or down depending on the result.

    The Golden Rule

Starting bid MUST be 1 million, no more, no less.

Every bid after increases by 0.5 million, no more no less.

That's the basics, if you are unsure of ANYTHING, PM me.

  6. The weight bug, after much discussion with some of the Coaches in the league, playing around with NOSE, and just general thinking, will stay in the league.

Now don't get me wrong, I like the idea of fixing the weight bug and creating new weights that reflect how it SHOULD be, however, there are far too many issues in this that now is not the right time. It's something to be looked at in the future.

The poll was put up to see how the coaches felt about the issue. It was fairly even throughout, and that is the problem. I made a mistake in saying the majority vote would win, as I didn't think about it enough. For a complete overhall of player stats, it would take an almost unanimous vote. The reason for this is simple: All the voters for the weight change would barely, if at all, upset over using the original stats. However, all the voters for keeping the weight bug would be much more upset about using new stats. We've all been playing using the weight bug for far too long for a change to be something easy and simple to do and accept.

Thanks to all who voted, it was nice to see how you guys felt about it. I apologize if anybody is upset about this, but I believe keeping it in is almost essential to make this league last past it's first season.

Now, as for bidding. The bidding will be open at 11:00 PM Central Time. This is in one hour. Keep an eye on this thread, as I will update it when the bidding is open. Make sure you read the examples to make sure you do not make any errors that cause this to take any longer than it has to. Once again, once 24 hours passes without a new bid, the last bid is the winning one. I might not be around to close the topic, but just check the time of the last post to be sure. Obviously if I don't close it in time and a bid is made, it won't count, so just pay attention to make sure you don't do that.

Good luck to all coaches in the bidding process, as well as in the upcoming season.

  7. Alright guys, here's the issue as it stands. We have two choices here:

Keep the weight bug. The more I think and talk to others about it, this is beggening to seem like the only choice here. First off, it's tried and true. We've all been playing using these ratings for years, and we know most of the players like the back of our hands. There should be virtually 0 complaints about using original ratings, as it's used in every other league, it's basically all you guys have played with, and besides minor complaints about gretzky and lemieux, people love it.

Then we have new stats. Now this just raises a box full of problems. First off, because of weights having to change, almost all of the players won't feel right after playing with them for so long. Bure is a goddamn speedster, but after the changes, he might be slower, not by a lot, but enough that it does make difference. Second off, there is absolutely 0 room for error when you completely overhaul all of the games original stats. There will be complaints, and it's impossible to please everybody with a new ROM. Then we get a bit into the season and people hate the rom, their favorite player got messed up, and now theres no longer complains about Roenick, but now theres torches being waived about Bourque.

I do like the idea of fixing the weight bug for this league, but as Gr8 said, the timing is off. This might be something to come back to in the future when everything else is running smooth, but i'd rather not make a huge change in the first season, there's too much room for error.

So first off, i'd like everyone who's voted for the change to reconsider. Secondly, i'm leaning very hard on just keeping the original stats. If i'm not totally confident in something, I don't want to risk a disaster and having to revert to orginal stats 10 games into the season.

The poll a bad idea, i'll admit. Would have been better to stick with what I said when I opened registration, original stats.

If anybody has any complaints with using original stats for the league, please speak up, but the headaches caused by a switch are multiplying the more I think about it.

Besides, we'll see how the poll plays out. If it stays too even, theres no reason to make a switch. Everybody voting for a change won't be too upset if we use original ratings, but those voting for original ratings would be very upset with new ratings.

If we fix Roenick and Fleury, Bourque and Lindros would just replace them.

  8. A vote requires a post from the coach before it counts. It would be great if all the coaches could vote on this.

    Brief explanation of the choices:

Keep the weight bug - Pretty self explanatory. Light players still dominate checking, McSorely gets destroyed by Fleury on a regular basis, etc.

Make weight based on checking and actual weight - The weight will be altered, making the checking rating and the players actual weight determining the new weight. So players like McSorely, Lindros, Otto, Bourque will be hard hitters, and players like Bure, Roenick, Yzerman, not so much.

In the event that the new weight option wins, the bidding will be postponed a bit as the new weights need to be made up and released. Vocally Caged already has a rom which accomplishes what I speak of. The only delay would be releasing the new stats, which wouldn't take long.

I personally have voted for keeping the weight bug, so:

    Keep weight bug - 3

    New weights - 5

  11. General Rules

    Period Length: 5 minutes

    Penalties: On, No Off-Sides

    Line Changes: Off

    Bidding for players

At the start of every season, each team gets a 48 million dollar budget. Then, the coaches will have a set period of time to select a set roster of 6 Forwards, 4 Defense, 2 Goalies. This will be done by posting a topic in a sub-forum (one sub-forum for each position) with the player's name. The original post will be the opening bid on the player, yearly salary offered and the number of seasons for the player (ex. 1 million/2 seasons). Then, any other coach can step in and place a big higher than the last one. If nobody places a higher bid within a set amount of time of the last bid (24 hours), the topic will be closed, the player will be on the winning coache's roster, and the money will be taken off from his budget (NOTE: If it's a multi-season contract, the yearly salary is paided for each season). A coach will have to watch his budget carefully, as a bid that would cause him to exceed his budget will not be counted.

Max number of seasons - 3

It IS possible to remove a bid you have made. Simply edit your post, and put "Bid Canceled" in it. This does restart the 24 hour period. You also cannot post two bids in a row, for obvious reasons. Once you've canceled a bid, no more bidding on that player.

The starting bid MUST be between 0.5 million and 1 million. All bids after this must be between 0.5 million and 1 million more

    x) Opening bid - 0.5 million

    2nd bid - 1.5 million

    3rd bid - 2 million

    etc.

Note that once a contract has been signed, it is PERMANENT and you can only drop ONE player per bidding period, and only if you signed that player during THAT bidding period.. Other than that, the contract does not end. You can trade the player away, however. At the end of his contract he goes back to free agents, but you can only drop one player into free agency per bidding period/season. Make sure of who you're signing.

    Buying Out Contracts

Before the bidding period every season, coaches have the option to buy out players contracts (for multi-year deals). How it is done is you pay half of that players salary for the rest of his contract and he is put in Free Agency.

ex)Sundin is on a 3 year, 6 million per year deal. You opt to buy out his contract in the second year. You pay 3 million a year for the next 2 years.

There are two trading periods: One before the season starts, and one 3 quarters into the season. The second one is a bit different. First of all, all games that have been released up to the trading period MUST have been played. Any games not played become eligible for DNPs (Discussed later).

    Things that can be traded:

    -Players

    -Draft Picks

Trading players with one-year contracts is very simple. The teams simply swap players, nothing else involved. Same goes for draft picks. You just inherit a draft pick for next seasons draft. However, player with multi-season contracts is a bit different. When you aquire a player with a multi-season contract, you inherit the contract. You will not have to pay for the season you aquired him in, as the coach trading him to you has already done this. However, at the start of the next season, you will have to pay for him. As an example:

Coach A trades Mats Sundin with a 3 year, 4 million per year contract to Coach B. Sundin is in the first year of said contract. Coach B does not pay anything for the season in which he aquired Sundin. Next season however, at the start of the season, Coach B automatically has 4 million deducted from his budget to pay for Sundin.

Note that the pre-season draft starts at the same time bidding does, and there is an exception for multi-season contracts during this period. Since the season has not begun, the coach receiving a player with a multi-season contract inherits the contract and also pays for the player's first season.

You will have to have a VALID roster to trade, which consists of 6 F, 4 D, 2 G and are under the salary cap.

    Updated Player Attributes

Every season the player ratings will be updated, using an algorithm along with other EA NHL games. No need to get into the technical stuff here.

    Player Retirement

A player will be removed from the game when his real-life counterpart retired. For example, Patrick Roy retired in the 2003 season. Since this league would be starting in the 94 season, this means that Roy would be removed from the game in the leagues 9th season.

    Expansion Draft

This is a possibility if the first season of the league is a success and if more interest is generated. It would likely work similiar to an actual NHL Expansion Draft, but smaller scale. New coaches get a team, and since most teams will have the skilled players locked into multi-year contracts, the new coach will get to grab a player from most teams, but of course the coach will have the option to protect players from being picked, to keep their superstars.

    Injuries

This may prove unpopular, but here's how it works. Every player has an "Injury Rating". This rating increases by 2 for every injury the players receives (Game OR Period injury, there is a reason for this, trust me). Once this rating reaches 5, the player becomes eligible for a multi-game injury. It works as follows:

Injury Rating - Probability of injury

    5 - 20%

    6 - 40%

    7- 60%

    8- 80%

    9- 100%

To decide if the player gets injured or not, a very sophisticated technological device will be used to determine if the player gets injured (..okay, a die.) If the player unfortunately DOES get injured, then a dice is rolled again and the resulting number is

    Injury Rating - Games Out

    5 - Dice Roll

    6 - Dice Roll + 3

    7 - Dice Roll x 2

    8 - Dice Roll x 3

    9 - Dice Roll x 4

Of course, the rating will go down. It will reduce by 1 for every 5 games played by the team (So you can sit a player if you're worried about him getting injured) without an injury, and will go back to 0 when a player returns from an injury. If a player becomes eligible for an injury but thankfully does not get injured, his rating stays the same, but he can only become eligible for an injury again if the rating goes up (Example, Sundin has an Injury Rating of 8, goes through the injury process, but does not get injured. His rating stays at 8. He plays 6 games with no injury, bringing down his rating to 6. ONLY when he gets injured again does the injury process starts again.)

There will be a topic keeping track of injured players and the number of games remaining in the injury and players Injury Rating,

and if a player does get injured the coach will be notified. If a coach has an injured player, but he plays the injured player in a game, then that game is automatically a forfeit loss for that coach.

    Draft

Since we're following actual NHL season for player retirement, we obviously have to add new players to compensate. Thus, at the every season, a draft will be held. This will be a one round event, in which NHLers who made their start in the corresponding NHL season (Again, the first season is the 93-94 NHL season, but no draft will be held for the first season). The number of players chosen will be the number of coaches they're are, and obviously the most talented NHLers will be chosen.

As a example, in season 2, some of the players in the draft would be: Paul Kariya, Peter Forsberg, Sergei Gonchar, and so on. The players' stats will be decided using the same algorithm I mentioned above.

    All-Star Game

For absolute fun, probably right after the trade deadline, an all star game will be held. Top 2 coaches from one conference vs top 2 coaches from other conferences, with the top players from each conference filling the teams, for an exciting 2 on 2 dual and bragging rights.

    Season Length/Game Releases/Deadlines/DNPs/Etc.

4 games vs Conference teams, 2 games vs other Conference teams, resulting in a 44 game schedule.

Top 4 teams from each conference make the playoffs, with normal seeding (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 ).

Games will be released on a schedule, similar to Dmitri's Draft League. I've always liked this idea rather than all games at once, as it keeps the player stats fairly equal, along with conference standings and whatnot. Also makes playoff races look a lot more interesting.

There will be 4 deadlines throughout the season (1/4th way through, half way through, trade deadline, end of season). Any games not completed before the deadline results in DNPs. I've always hated these as it leads to arguments on who gets the points. If a deadline is coming up, and you have games not played, there will be a sub-forum to post requests for a player on it. If the player you are requesting does not reply, you get the forfeit win. If he does, but no time can be found for when both coaches can play, a tie will be awarded. If neither player posts a topic requesting the other player, both are awarded losses.

The points system is fairly simple:

    Win - 2 points

    OT Loss - 1 point

    Tie - 1 point

    Loss - 0 points

  12. Since the FVHL board is already up, and i'm looking forward to getting the season rolling and still wanting to stick to a smaller member-base for the first season, registrations are now closed. I'm sorry Wags, but you'll be put first on the waiting list. Thank you all for the support and interest, you can now refer to the FVHL board.

  13. Quebec offers 3 million for one season.

This is ALL that is needed. For a multi-season contract:

Quebec offers 3 millions per season for 2 seasons.

    Quick Refreshers:

-After 24 hours has passed without a new bid, the highest bid signs the player and the thread will be closed.

-Highets bid is determined by the amount per season, not all together. (Ex. 3 million for one year is the same as 3 million per season for 2 seasons as far as highest bidder is concerned)

-You must bid higher than the last bid when placing a bid.

-You must bid at least .5 million more than the last bid

-You must bid at least 1 million.

  16. trudatman: It has to hit the ice once before you can hit it unfortunately, so no flip in air then smacked into net before it even hits the ground unfortunately. But the puck was barely off the ice in that video, so to compensate I decided to give it another go:

This one is MUCH better. Reminiscent of Ovechkin's attempts during the breakway challenge at the all star game .
