The player base isn't growing anymore, so we need to work on attracting and, in particular, keeping new players. Let's come up with some ideas. Are you a new player? We especially want to hear from you about what will keep you playing. Is there anything making it difficult for you? So here are some ideas, and I'll try to link them to the post in the thread about them. "C" Leagues We already have "A" leagues for top players and "B" leagues for guys who haven't hit that level (yet). Maybe we need a "C" league for new guys to play against guys who they have a chance against and make friends with people in the same situation as them. I think it was CoachMac who had t…

This document was last updated March, 18, 2018 Getting Started This guide is meant to help people that are new to this site or our community. I just really got involved a couple years ago, and there was so much information in so many different places, it was overwhelming. Yes, it was mostly all here on the forums, or on another sister website, but finding clear, fresh info was very difficult. I aim to change that, with this guide, and other guides to come in this "Latest Info" section. I plan on keeping it "fresh" as things change and people tell me what they need to know, or want me to expand on I have organized it by headings. If a heading doesn't apply…

Hey guys, It seems not that many people know about the "internet archive way back machine" where you can see really old versions of websites. This link is a version of the nhl94.com website from Aug 27th, 2004: https://web.archive.org/web/20040827194209/http://nhl94.com:80/ And here's nhl94online.com from Dec 24th, 2005 (that includes the first season standings): https://web.archive.org/web/20051224193612/http://www.nhl94online.com:80/ I'm not sure how much of the sites are functional but at least you can see what it looked like back then. I tested clicking a team logo which brought up the team ratings and also the screenshots of nhl94.com a…

Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm not a big head to head player like many of you guys, but I'll tell my story. When I was a kid, a freshman in high school, I saw NHL hockey (Sega Genesis) on display at Jafco, and I decided right then I had to have a Genesis and this game. I was immediately hooked. The next year was even better, I figured out to the best of my ability (mostly from hockey cards) which jersey numbers the guys were on each team, and played and even watched demo games and kept track of stats. The next year was even better, NHLPA 93 had the player names and you could see the fight ratings! I actually set up my own little fantasy league, watched demo games (eac…

Hello all, I am happy to be here. Haven't played in 30yrs....I love this game. I just started to join others for quick exhibition games and am trying to learn how to host. Thanks to all the great people that I played by helping out and kicking my butt!!! win or lose it is so much fun. Now a couple of questions... 1. does anybody play with auto or manual lines? I like to use 2 lines as some teams have more than enough good players to fill 2 lines and then the check line is back to line 1. 2. does anybody play with auto goalie? As I am terrible at manual goalie and if I leave it up to the AI, unless you have belfor or roy its not gonna matter. I w…

Hey guys I'm turning to the pc experts for this one. How are you guys playing the DOS 94/95 versions of this game on win 10 / 11 ? It used to work flawlessly without any work on win 7 . However I've recently been forced to upgrade. The downloadable executable we all use from a popular site won't work with the vanilla operating systems of win 10 / 11. Any help or suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it was Christmas of 93? when I got this masterpiece of a game, around 15 years old then. Kids in our Virginia neighborhood didn't know too much about Hockey but this game changed everything. We would battle for hours and hours and then fight outside afterwards about it. This game is Timeless and has soul, unlike newer games.

Gentlemen. My name is Bobby Paffile. I’ve been playing NHL since I got it as a 13 year old and discovered Brass Bonanza and the mighty Hartford Whalers. Anywho. I’m banging my head against the wall trying to get this motherf**** to work and I’m at a loggerheads. At this point I’d be willing to mail my Genesis cartridge to a sympathetic member if one of y’all can get this to work. Willing to give you any sort of fair remuneration. Anyway, have a great day and go Whalers.

Hello, I played this game when I was a kid. I made my own players gave them max ratings. I was looking for this program to edit player names, I finally found it in my old hardrive backups. NHLEDIT.EXE / msdos / dosbox. Press 'Page Down' key to find a team. Then 'Click Mouse Button' to edit player number. 'Click Mouse Button' to player name and start writing a new name. '00' is max value 100. Thanks NHLED104.ZIP

I have been a fan of NHL 94 since the beginning and now that I play IRL hockey I want to do jerseys but my idea for a crest is a Nhl94 player in action going down like the face and and body highly visible (south direction) in Slap Shot motion and with the star highlighted …. can anyone help me get the graphic to get it on my customs jerseys ? thx Havok

Hello everyone, i am an old Genesis player. My first cartridge was NHL ‘91, and i fell in love with this amazing game. I’ve played up to version ‘96. still, when I have five minutes to spare, I play version ‘91, which I consider the fastest and most playable ever. I’ve discovered this forum today and when I saw the many versions you guys made available, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I will try them all! Thanks again for creating this forum. Luca

Hello hockey fans, I'm LadyScorpion and the 90s Montreal Canadiens fan is resurfacing these days. I played NHL 94 on SNES in 2000 or 2001 but I not played anymore since until the romhack of the NHL 94. Unfortunately, the romhack of NHL 94 is too hard for me. My favorite ways to score are creating danger in the attacking zone, overloading the defense and slapshots.

So I saw some old posts from like 10 years about this but, nothing recent that I could really comment on. There's an old NHL game I had as a kid, and It's been almost 30 years and I've still never truly got to fully play this game. I somehow doubt there's anything anyone can do for me, but I'm really at a midlife crisis and thought maybe something good would happen to me for once. Getting this game to work would be like, a miracle from god at this point! The game is NHL 96 for PC. A game that is run through DOS. Now, I still have a disk for it from when I was a kid, I have all the files, but I've got no idea how to get it to install. After deciding hey, Ive not tried…

For whatever reason, I can't get my computer to recognize my corded Logitech controller. I loaded the NHL 51 rom and can't get passed the game menu. I went into controller settings and only see options for 3 or 6 button setups when my controller looks more like a PS controller. I've also toggled the X input and Direct input switch thinking that may be it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey guys, I got a raspberry pi 3 for Christmas and decided to install RetroPie so that I could play some of my old favorites. The first game I played once setup was NHL 94. This game is just as much fun to play as when I was a kid. I was shocked to find that after all these years the game had such a passionate following. Anyways I've been getting some practice in and noticed that when playing in playoff mode, after winning the first game, I'm taken to the main menu where Anaheim is selected for both the home and visiting teams. When I click start, it randomly picks 2 different teams and starts the tournament over. Was just wondering if anyone else has seen this or not? I …

Hello everybody, I’m Fred from Milan, Italy and I just wanna thanks whoever is behind this amazing community. I’m pretty new to the game but I’m already in love with it. I play it on an old Sega Mega Drive (modded to run at 60hz, as I live in a pal country), and I won my first Stanley’s Cup with the Blackhawks just yesterday, I know…there’s sill a long way to go. I the future I’d like to start playing online and attending tournaments. I really appreciate all the materials I found in this forum, I hope to be able to contribute to some discussions soon, in the meantime thanks again for your commitment to maintaining this community!!!
