  1. Hey Cole,

Could I get a copy of your edited rom? Sounds interesting.

sure. there are a few bugs in it still that i've either been too lazy to fix, or haven't caught yet... but give me your email and i'll hook you up.

but i did make the uniforms a little more realistic in my eyes, and less "templated" to the oilers template... though it's not anything ground breaking. just filling in some shoulders with the same color as the body, and what not...

and some black pads, some red pads, some white pads... some yellow pads... whatever i thought looked best. grey pads for irbe B)

  2. I've been playing nhl95 a lot recently, since it was the first genesis hockey game i ever played, and i like feeling nostalgiac.

since then, i've gotten bored and used NOSE to edit just about everything i could imagine to make it more my style... i dropped down everyone's speed and passing ability, to make it a little more realistic... i editted everyone's uniforms... and i even gave goalies new equipment with more colors than just white...

but the main thing i used to do in nhl95 to kill time was go into practice mode and play as the goalie on a 0-2 situation. and since i play a lot of nhl10 now from the goalie's perspective, i was wondering...

is it at all possible to hack nhl95 into "goalie mode"?

what i mean by this is have position lock on the goalie the entire game. the reason i assume it's possible, is because you can currently have manual goalie on, but as soon as a teammate touches the puck, you control whoever is touching the puck. is it possible to play with manual goalie that just allows the other 5 players on the ice to be 100% computer controlled, as if you're watching the game in demo mode?

this, or any other "position locks" would be a dream come true for me.

  3. Well SD, you're right. The two line pass is pretty annoying. I know Tony had created a hack for 94 that eliminated all ref calls, but that wont help. If you check out NOSE and the rules window, there's a ROM address there but I think its primarily for the name only and not when the penalty is actually called.

I havent started anything other than dabbling here and there, so I may just switch down a year and go with 97. From what I remember that had hidden teams as well I think. So long as the end result gives us at least 30 teams in exhbition/regular game thats fine with me. The major annoyance I have is the sprite editing. If I alter any of the sprites using Tile Molester, it effectively "runs to Children's Aid" and craps out on me. I've tried editing one or two pixels on one frame of animation and as soon as that particular sprite is used the game locks - I've also tried pasting and that doesn't work either. I think there's something that needs to be hex edited before you can make tile edits in 96-98. I haven't seen anyone else with any sprite hacks for those games post anything on these forums, so I'm SOL.

I'll just stick to color swaps and logo imports and stuff.

i never had nhl98 for genesis, because i'd moved to PC by that time... i did however have 97... and i can attest to the fact that there are 2 hidden teams in 97 as well.

if i'm not mistaken, one is a red white and blue EA Sports team, and one is a purple and green "renegades" or something similar.

like i said, i don't think i've played 98 for genesis, so i'm not sure how many features it added/subtracted, so if 98 has these too, then ignore me... but in 97, there was a team canada, a team usa, and green and gold team europe. those should give you more teams to dick around with.

  4. i see many tutorials on editting nhl94, and rightfully so... since this is nhl94.com.......

but for a project i'm working on, i need to edit nhl92. i've got all the uniforms taken care of, and team names... and rosters...

but what about ice logos/scoreboard logos and those little team banners that have the logo and team name under the skater on the menu screen?

would the nhl94 tutorials fit in just as well with that game, or is a whole different beast?

any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

  5. my name's cole, and i'm an admin over at thebreakaway.net... in fact, that's how i found out about this place a while back. mack hangs out over there, and over the years, i've gotten to know him. i was always in awe of his mastery of the hacking world.

he inspired me to download NOSE probably a year ago... and since then, i've made my own little uniform updates for all my favorite NHL hockey games... (for instance, why is new jersey wearing black, and boston wearing brown? and ... you know)

    anyway... that's all pointless.

i'm just glad i finally got off my ass and registered. hopefully i can figure out all the hard parts of modding these roms, so i can get more complex than changing jon casey's name to andy moog, and giving team uniform updates (that also ruin the ice logos)
