General Questions & Discussion

TOOL: NHL '94 Offline Stat Extractor Current Version : 0.1.1 (08/15/2018) This tool, given a ROM and a save state (made at the appropriate time), will extract the data to an Excel-style (.xls) Spreadsheet similar to the box score on nhl94online.com. How it works: Very simple. Choose the ROM that you used to play the game. Enter the period length of the game that was played (default is 5 min, in increments of 1 min). Choose the save state to extract the stats from. Click on "Extract to XLS..." and a pop-up window will ask you where you would like to save the file to, and what you would like to name it. Th…

I'm trying to find a way for the computer to make more frequent line changes when on auto line changes or a computer controlled team. Basically, the first lines play 75% of the time, 2nd lines maybe 20%, and the checking lines don't see the ice unless their team is ahead in the 3rd period. I feel like the obvious solution is to reduce all players endurance to 0, but as I recall I tested this long ago with NHLPA 93 and saw very minimal difference. Might still give it a try with just 2 teams to see if there's a noticeable difference. Does anyone else have other ideas how to get the other lines on the ice occasionally?

  3. Wondering if there's anyone with coding knowledge interested in helping me hack the fighting a bit. I've been playing around with it and can make some changes, but I do not have the coding knowledge. So I'm finding myself very stuck. I've got a few things accomplished, I've made it so that fights can happen at any time, and that anyone with a fight rating can fight. From here, I'd like to make it so that generally speaking, fighting happens when it's an even matchup. Also trying to get it so fighting is more likely to happen as result of a harder hit. Several other little ideas, but those are a couple of my initial thoughts. Any programmers interested?

  4. Started by top shelf,

After finding out that fighting was back in the game, I just wondered what else thought impossible is possible. With fighting now in both games 93 and 94 having an extra line of tough guys would be great (thinking Washington Caps Simon-Hunter-Berube line). Not sure why they originally went with 3 lines – space maybe? Only just found out we had the 92 source code! Unfortunately, have not touched this stuff in 15 years so have lost all the knowledge I used to have. I had a go at the ‘Finding RAM Values’ tutorial last month (highly recommended btw) to see if it would bring back any memories and thought I would have a look to see what I could find without really any h…

  5. Advice for Modders, Meddlers, and other Creative Rabble-Rousers (last updated 2024 01 03) Getting Started Start with as clean a ROM as possible. This will make it the easiest to edit, and puts you in the position of having the most creative control. I recommend starting with either the 28 or 32 team templates, and/or an original verified [!] good ROM dump. Beyond being able to accommodate more teams, the templates have the advantages of many of the graphics already being "de-compressed", which will make editing much easier. Just note that the templates are not "clean", in that they have some elements modified or removed that you may want to preserve or restore…

  6. Ever wondered how to get a certain song to be team specific after import? Well to paraphrase Cultaholic/WhatCulture's Simon Miller...how? -slaps head and snaps fingers- Here's how. In this tutorial I am going to be installing "Brass Bonanza as my custom Hartford team's scoring song. For this you need a copy of Brass Bonanza (find it yourself) and NHL 2002 Ditty Importer (Find it yourself). Once you have those things, open Ditty Importer. in the top box, you want to put the file you're converting. In this case, Brass Bonanza. Also before transferring to ditty importer, find some way of converting from MP3 to wav. Next up, before you hit convert, hit…

hello everyone, I am looking for a font in NHL 94 pregame menu. if you have a link for that font send me a message (I got NHL 94 font and banner font also so I miss one last)

  8. Started by AdamCatalyst,

I finally buckled down and identified the font EA has used for NHL 21–24. It's Termina Black, designed by Mattox Shuler, published by Fort Foundry. https://fortfoundry.com/fonts/termina It is also licensed with Adobe Creative Cloud, so Adobe users get it for "free" after they (or their employer) pay their exorbitant Adobe fees. https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/termina You may notice some small discrepancies between the lettering used in the EA NHL artwork and the font. This is normal, as one usually customizes the letterforms in a font when preparing a logo. I hunted this down because I am trying to get my '25 done as early as possible. But the default "5" in the f…

I'm not sure when or how my linesmans skin colour became bright red but it's been bugging me to no end. I've tried a few things with changing the colour on the linesmans strips in tile molester with another from the pallette but that would result in the image being jumbled in game. I then tried changing the colours in the palette that appeared to correspond with the linesmans red colour in tile molester which worked but at the expense of all the red lines since it shares a pallette with the rink. Is there anyway of changing the skin colour without it changing the lines on the ice? I feel like it might be an easy fix that I can't think of. I attached my rom if anyone would…

  10. Was wondering if anyone would be able to help with something I've been trying to do for a while now, remove the passing windows in Madden 93. Always felt like the Passing Windows cluttered the screen too much where you couldn't see, which is why they added the menu option in Madden 95 to disable them. I've been trying to figure this out, on and off for a VERY long time, basically when a QB drops back you press C to bring up the passing windows then A,B or C to pass to a receiver. In Madden 95 there is a menu option to disable these passing windows so I'm sure there's a way to disable them in the earlier versions (Madden 91, ,92, 93, 94). I've used GensTracer m…

I suppose I should get off my ass and put in some more effort around here. Two upcoming projects - 1) HNIC90-91 v1.3 Opening Day + HNIC90-91 V2.0 Playoff edition 2) NHA 1909-1910 (Heritage Series) Now that @chaos is play testing a fight patch, I can put HNIC90-91 to bed finally. In the meantime, I decided to work on a few historical mods... which ballooned into a more ambitious project.

What kind of ratings would you give Tony Hand in the NHL games of the 90s ?

Hi, I recently got an Anbernic CubeXX and it has a great Sega dpad so it's become my go-to device for playing NHL94. However, it has a square screen and the black bars are not ideal. I saw a widescreen patch. Does anyone know if there is a square screen patch? I haven't been able to find one but I'm new to ROM mods and maybe I missed it. If not, does anyone know if there is a good resource I could be pointed to to do it myself? Thanks

  15. So uh, any ideas what's going on here, guys? I'm just getting started on Tile Molester and using Slapshot's fully editable NHLPA 2015 30-team rom to have a bit of practice using TM, but I've got this going on for all the graphics. Same happens in TLP too. The weird thing is I had this problem a couple years ago when trying to use these programmes on my Mac through a Windows virtual machine, and I just figured my Mac was somehow causing the issue. But I got my hands on a dirt cheap laptop today for sole purpose of editing some ROMs and I've been presented with the exact same issue. Am I missing a plug-in or something, or have I overlooked something incredib…

Hello I've noticed a bug recently, which seems to affect every NHL 94 rom. Customized or not. If you start some playoff with the 2-teammates mode, you will suddenly be forced to choose the 2-head to head mode before the 2nd game, at the menu screen. It will be no longer possible to play with your friend. Note that I'm using "Fusion" emulator to run my roms. Does anybody have an idea how to fix that bug? And if it's possible at all? Thanks a lot for your replies

  18. How to: Fixing the "Handedness" in the Face-Off Insets It's always annoyed me how during a face-off, the inset displays the player on the right (bottom) with the wrong hand. The errors seem to be there from the original, up to and including '94 for SNES. I've played with the code, and can reverse the handedness etc, but can't figure out how to affect the player on the right only. In fact, I can't see any evidence that the flag for the bottom team is even being read in the source code (below). If anyone had any suggestions as to how to handle this (other than a Psychiatrist), I would greatly appreciate it. EDIT: Solution below. cheers, -Adam …

  19. I'm using Dosbox on my Windows 8 machine to play NHL '95. I set up a league and played a bunch of games. Unfortunately, when I go to the Standings page for my league, all the stats are at zero. When I go to the player stats page it says "Stats Unavailable". Weirdly, I know that the league is tracking goals somewhere because when someone scores, the scoreboard shows the current number of goals they now have, from game to game. So when I just scored with Lemieux in my last game, it showed "#66 Lemieux (21)" because it was his 21st goal of this season. I also do know that data is being saved somewhere because my league calendar correctly shows the history of previ…

Hi, I'm working on a tattoo project for myself. I want to show my love of 1990's videogaming, hockey, Bruins and goalie. I search over the web for a goalie sprite from Nhl 94 or 95, where the goalie is doing a glove save. From what I remember it was in NHL 94 but all I wasnt able to find it. Thanks for your help!

Okay, we heard about Utah being the "33rd" NHL team, but how are we gonna add the team to a NHL 94 Mod? Like we can't replace the Coyotes with Utah because Arizona is "inactive". Should we use NHL Prospects and Free Agents as Arizona and go from there?

  23. Hey folks, I don't know if you've heard, but apparently the Washington Capitals have bought Cap Friendly, and it is to be made inaccessible to the public in early July this year. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/capitals-reach-agreement-to-purchase-capfriendly-website/ Last year I was heavily reliant Cap Friendly, for up-to-date Team Rosters, Player Numbers, and Player Positions that indicate the full range of positions a player plays, such as LD/RD, LW/C, etc. I also used it as my backup data source for Player Weights. The site is easily scrapable with a browser plugin, so I could download up-to-date accurate data quickly. I need to find an alterna…
