  1. ...but when it comes down to it you need those penalty shots called especially if your team isnt a hard hitting one.. the hitting teams will just demolish the opponent and any breakaway can easily be broken up

Gotta admit, I love the penalty shots. (Even though I suck at scoring on em and defending em) Wish we can have no penalties, except on a breakaway. Now that would rock!

  2. Funny Story

I loved NHL 94 SO much and I pre-ordered my 95 directly from an EA rep back when I worked at the computer store. (Babbage's) To my surprise I receivedt the game almost 2 months before it was released to the public! I was stoked.

Upon firing it up I was immediately disgusted. Some High School friends of mine caught wind that I had it early and wanted to buy it off me at any cost. I told em it sucked really bad, but they still wanted it. Sold it for $100 bucks to 2 dudes! Poor suckers. :D

At that time it seemed EA was making all the right moves. Know one ever thought they would ruin a great franchise. Definately a sad day when it was released.

I asked the guys later on in the week how they liked it. "Sold it for 70 bucks" they said.

  3. I'm new here (this is my first post) and I'm sorry if this has already been talked about. Does anybody have an opinion on who is the worst player in '94. I'd have to vote for Tampa defender Bob Beers. Any other ideas???

Bob Beers? He is actually pretty good for a lower tier team IMO. (and gotta love that last name too!) :dal_skater_hand_grab:

As for worst players? wow. There is simply way too many dumpy players too count. Just look at the bench at some of the weaker teams. I don't even know where to start.

  4. Personally, I do not own a genesis. (RIP)

I personally do not see or feel a difference when playing an emulated version. But one thing i do notice is that emulation "feels" different on my laptop. Not due to software but due to the slow response time of my laptop's LCD. My desktop pc's display has a faster response time and it is a night and day difference from my laptop.

I wonder if some of the differences some people are seeing is due to monitor response. After all the old genesis version ran at a silky smooth 60 frames per second. Some LCDs or laptop displays simply can't keep up.

    My answers:

    1. Emulation wins by a landslide if i had to choose one. Netplay, online leagues, infinite game pad options, portability on a laptop, multiple save states, video recording and more make it an easy choice for me.

    2. I can feel a difference on my laptop. With that said, it is safe to say that slower LCDs would experience the same issue.

    3. My main display is a 19" lcd that has an 8ms response time. This thing rocks. Super fast with not ghosting issues. My secondary setup is a 32" LCD tv with a media center pc hooked up to it. Again this thing is fast and emulation feels perfect. I would use this for league and online play but its just a pain to type messages to people with my ass on the couch.

  5. No one to play tonight so I thought I'd play the computer.

    CHI vs ANA

183 dB after one period of play

It was 20 minute periods. I don't know if these are records are not but this is after one period. It got pretty boring and I dont have the stamina to finish the game. I saved it so I'll finish it another time.

  6. One thing I have noticed while watching also some other video's...is that the people who are playing NHL 94....have a total different style of playing than me. A lot of passing and many goals came from those wingers.

If you ever get a chance to play Clockwise aka JesusPlaysNHL94, you'll notice he has the most unique style of play. A solid player with TONS of passing and nice one timer setups.

Its not uncommon for him to have 90+ pass attempts in a game!

  7. Just some suggestions to think about.

I think more stats would be cool.

    In the standings section:

    Goals for Per Game

    Goals Against Per Game

    +/-

    Winning %

    These are doable right?

Other cools things to have on the Standings page.

Longest Winning Streak. Not necessarily the current longest streak.

    Most Shut Outs

    Most Goals per game

    Most 10+ goal games

Highest Combined Goals in a game

Maybe put these in a poll 3rd month?

Vote for Best One Timer Coach

    Vote for Best Fake Coach

    Vote for Best Slapper Coach

Vote for Best Goalie Control Coach

    Vote for Best Defensive Coach

    Vote for Best Offensive Coach

    Vote for Most Improved Coach

Vote for Rookie Coach of the year

    Others?

Not all of these trophies would apply but it would be cool to award some of these:

Art Ross Trophy: Top Point Scorer in the NHL

Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy: Qualities of Perseverance and Sportsmanship

Calder Memorial Trophy: Rookie of the Year

Clarence S. Campbell Bowl: Western Conference Champion

Conn Smythe Trophy: Most Valuable Player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs

Frank J. Selke Trophy: Top Defensive Forward in the NHL

Hart Memorial Trophy: NHL Most Valuable Player

Jack Adams Award: Coach of the Year

James Norris Memorial Trophy: Top Defenseman in the NHL

King Clancy Memorial Trophy: Leadership and Humanitarian Contribution

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy: Player who Displays Gentlemanly Conduct

Lester B. Pearson Award: Most Valuable Player as Selected by the NHLPA

Lester Patrick Trophy: Outstanding Service to Hockey in the United States

Maurice Richard Trophy: Top Goal Scorer in the NHL

    Presidents' Trophy: Best Overall Record

Prince of Wales Trophy: Eastern Conference Champion

Vezina Trophy: Top Goalie in the NHL

William M. Jennings Trophy: Goalie(s) With the Fewest Goals Scored Agains

  8. Back in the genesis days when NHL94 was 1st released almost all my friends played it. As time progressed a few people began to emerge as the dominant players. The dominant began to destroy the weak with humiliating victories. The weaker players eventually dwindled down until there were only the good players left. The good players battled it out until there was only a few.

Fast forward 10 years later to today. Online play is available. I've only been playing for 2 months and already I'm seeing the same thing. Awesome players crushing the the weaker ones. The weaker ones dropping like flies.

I was sad to see that Tick's NHL Cup Chase is no more. Even though I wasnt in it, I thought it was a great idea and planned on joining it once I got my skills up. I too got my ass kicked by Habs, Tick, 54, etc. I hung in there, learned from ass whippings given to me, and steadied out.

All this makes me wonder if the community is growing? Or in decline? I hope it grows cuz I want to keep playin'.

I guess its inevitable that people quit. No one likes losing. Hats off to the guys hangin' in there with losing records. Much respect. Learn from the losses and come back to kick some ass.

  9. I never really noticed home ice advantage until playing in the NHLonline league. Against the computer you simply never feel it because it always an insane blow-out regardless of being home or away.

I play as the islanders. On the road it's like they're skating on mud. Their shot speed also feels a little tired. Then there are times when goalie Healy (rated a 40 something) feels like hes rated a big old Zero.

At home its a different story. Hogue feels fast. King can shoot. Kasparitis can kinda hit.
