  1. Another update :-) These are the rosters before the all-star break. They are the best I've ever done so far.. So if you are wondering about which to pick in this thread, this is the one. 054.zip
  2. This one is even better. ;-) 047.zip
  3. Update 2011-01-22 043.zip
  4. Here is another one.. Another re-rating of the previous and a few more players on the rosters. Also fixed some line up errors of the previous zip. 042.zip sheet.txt
  5. OK, here is another update for the season! It contains new players and re-rated players (heavily based on stats/performance of the year). 040.zip sheet.txt
  6. You should probably specify what error message you get if you want anyone to help you And exactly what are you trying to do?
  7. I think there is also no top checking guy, ie 100 stat. I am not sure who this would be, but there should be one. Ben Eager maybe.
  8. That's great! I wanted someone to do it for a long time, so dont be shy when re-rating. Some of the players I added I simply did not know much about, so they can be quite wrong. For example, players like Tyler Seguin I think I put with too bad stats (given his skills). Colby Armstrong is another example, I think for example his AGG was set too low (he players kind of aggressively).
  9. Thanks I'm glad someone liked them - I was almost about to quit! The text files are just for reference/fun/completetion. They are not needed for anything.
  10. Another update. Updates to reflect the current status of the NHL. Any comments on these updates? Should I continue doing them? 038.zip sheet.txt skills.txt
  11. Time for another update! I added more players so each team has at least 21 players on the roster. It does not so much reflect changes in the NHL as just adding more players. 037.zip sheet.txt skills.txt
  12. Ok, so here is another update. It contains some additions of new players and removal of those who left. It is very similiar to the first one since only two weeks or so passed. If you find errors, please post them here and I'll include them in the next update. 036.tar.gz sheet.txt skills.txt
  13. Oops, the header fell off. Re-adding skills.txt skills2.txt
  14. Hi there, I took (quite) some time to create new rosters for the current day, 2010-10-23. I plan on continuing the 2010-2011 season with trade updates, but it is not a promise. This udpate contains all trades, recalls, jersey update, and some new players. When it comes to who plays on which team, it should be pretty damn accurate. The line-ups are not exactly as in reality, but quite similiar. It is simply too much work at this point to go through them all, and it changes all the time anyway. So it is roughly good enough. The work is based on Triumph's 2009-2010 final roster (not my own). I could need some help with updating the player skills, because I feel that some of them turned old. Some do not really reflect true skills, especially for young improving players and those who turn older/worse. Essentially I have not touched the skills though, apart from maybe 3-4 players. Cheers, Golub 034.tar.gz 034.txt skills.txt
  15. Answering my own question... It seems to be about pressing the ALT key as close to the drop as possible. So when the ref starts moving his arm, press ALT. I am also not sure.. but tapping at least once in the ice before that seems to help as well. This is just based on feeling though, but at least I can win more faceoffs than the comp this way.

    NHL95 in dosbox

Anyone ever managed to edit the game controls in dos box? I would like to bind a key like a = ALT+SPACE since this is kind of hard to press on some keyboards. I've tried the keymapper, but it does not seem to bite.
  17. I never figured this out. It seems to be completely random and I am always outmatched by the computer.

    Skill meaning

I wonder what some of the skills mean. Here is what I observed.. Speed: how fast the player moves Agility: how fast the player turns around Weight: affects ability to push others away, adds to power in checking, makes skating and turning quicker slower Shot power: how fast wrist shot is released and how hard in general the shot is Checking: how hgigh likelyhook of knocking a player down or getting him out of balance when checking, and how much speed is required for doing so Stickhandling: how well a player controls or breaks the puck from someone else, how close a player can stand to the goalie without losing the puck Accuracy: how little margin is required to shoot on.. Passing: how hard passes go (alt) Endurance: how much energy is drained in general These are more unclear to me. Can you help me: is my guess is right, or what else do they do? Faceoffs: likilyhood of winning a faceoff.. does not seem to be the only ability which affects this? try settings skills to 100/25 and you see what I mean, the 25 guy still wins a lot Aggressiveness: likilyhood of getting a penalty when tripping/crosschecking/holding.. maybe also how close players lie opponents and how likely to check when defending? Offensive awareness: positioning in offensive zone.. the higher, the better placed for re-bounds, one-timers etc Defensive awareness: positioning in defensive zone.. the higher, better coverage back home, cutting off passes better etc Shoot/pass bias: no clue. I thought a high value meant that the player rather passes than shoots.. or is it that a high value means that the player is biased and that whatever is highest of shot power and passing is used? never understood this. is it only used by the AI to determine this? does it affect the shot? u1: custom/young players seem to have this astronomically high.. some kind of "luck" value? u2: likelyhood to go in shooting position of one-timers u3: likelyhood of passing setups for one-timers u4: likelyhood of passing setups for one-timers u5: likelyhood of passing setups for one-timers u2-u5 are all very high on good players.. u1 is generally low. Maybe someone can help clarify if there are other effects or my guess is wrong?
  19. - it is basically an improvement based on triumphs deadline, no attributes were changed - lineups are more accurate - few jersey numbers were fixed - few missing players were added deadline_2010.zip
  20. Yeah well, unbalancing things was exactly the idea to get bigger differences. And I do not agree that superstar players are unstoppable. But anayway, it's all a matter of taste ;-)
  21. That's nice. I like your rosters and it's a nice reflection to include the increased skill. And yes, I do realize that that 25 is really, really bad. What I meant was that I wanted a "special" version of the database where players' skills make even a greater influence on the game. Right now, a player with 70+ in any skill is a pretty decent goal-scorer. When it drops below 45 it starts getting hard enough to provide some fun. What I meant was not that it would actually reflect the true skill of the players. All players in the NHL are extremely good hockey players, so for example skill 25 would have to be relatively interpreted. In other words 25 would be the score for the worst players _of the league_, not the entire world. I also realized that this would probably make them unfairly crappy - which is exactly what I want. 100 would be only for the top players like Ovetjkin. So, it wouldn't be so much to reflect reality in the available player attributes, more about making the game feel good/challenging/diverse. On a somewhat related matter, I also believe there are many properties of players which can't be properly captured by settings those values. For example, Kronwall is well-known to step up on people who don't keep their heads up and basically tackle/run them over. This simply can not be modeled with the attributes, even with a high offensive skill or checking skill (although both probably helps). In many ways, I think more important is to make the game feel like reality rather than making sure that the attributes are the players true abilities in those attributes in the game (as if it was the only way of measuring players).. more accurate would be to provide player-set algorithms for that purpose.. and I realize that is not available :-)
  22. ...Personally I always wanted a version of the DB that uses the entire spectrum from 25-100 in order to make better players really better and so...
  23. Sure, here's on the original DB.. The goalies are not included in the skills (AGI, SPE and so forth). They are however included in the left-most colum ("skill=1..."). EDIT: I didn't actually add it all up, but it seems like the new rosters have a generally higher individual skill for the players. per_team.txt
