  1. As some guys have suggested, we need maybe have a look for a new way to be in contact.

AIM, Hotmail or so, are becoming dinosaurs and close to their extinction. And maybe one of the reasons coaches can't schedule games efficiently.

A receive a recent invitation to be part of the SWOS ( sensible world of soccer) channel on discord.

It's a group who play online tournament. Very active and well organized.

Don't tested discord yet, but it seems to be interesting enough.

It's an alternative to Skype, TeamSpeak and instant messenger. All in one and Free.

It's Time to set an NHL'94 channel !

Are some guys experiment whit this application ? any return ?

    https://discordapp.com/

  2. 4 days until the end of the registration.

We have actually 4 coaches in, and two round.

Where are the others challengers ? Where are the guys who said they love to play on Fusion ? :)

Keep in mind that this tournament is 100 % compatible with the Classic 2016 Fall. You will have the same team that in Classic.

It's the best way to compare the gameplay, and is the perfect training for the final playoffs series.

We need you guys ! :)

  3. Well the Zip package includes the old one, and the new is a separate download.

The Zip package should include the New Kaillera not old.

    Can someone fix that?

It is hard enough on noobs trying to figure stuff out without this wrinkle.

(Yes, you can say it is not that big a deal to download and put the new one in place, but why not have the one that is used 99% of the time in place to begin with?)

That's exactly the point, and thanks for the effort Habs.

  4. Hi all,

It is with sincere regret that I have to announce my resignation from the leagues I am currently involved in.

I am not looking for a plabax style debate about time management here, but instead, in the words of the infamous Pearate, I am not taking so much pleasure anymore.

Infamous ??? I have sometime the feeling I have a group of opponent in here.

Anyway, there's always a comeback. I quit one time at the 2016 Spring Classic. Motivation was lost. I was about to quit in VHL too, I started the new season with no great attempt. And then the miracle :) I make a step. I don't see the game through the same eye anymore. So maybe we will see you again.

  5. Hey everyone,

I finally decided to run my first tournament.

A tournament based only on the emulator Kega fusion. The goal is to see if this emulator is a good alternative to gens for neplay, the second goal is to test the playoffs mode of the rom (maybe the games are more intensive in this mode, I suppose the IA is boosted in playoffs)

It's a quick tournament that we can run before the start, or in parallel of the Classic League and can be a good training by the way.

New players and SNES players are welcome (the rom will use the goalie hack).

Inscription deadline : Wednesday 26 October 12 am EST

Start : 28 October 3 pm EST (first round must be played later the 11 November 3 pm EST)

3 round to play (2 week per round, If a coach don't play his series in 2 weeks, he's out).

Ending of the tournament : 09/12/16 3pm EST

Rules for the first tournament :

Best of 7 series knockout with the Classic nhl94 rom + goalie hack. (edited to respect the playoff bracket)

    Emulator : Kega Fusion only

    Level entry : Any

Team pick : you will have the same team as in Classic 2016 fall if you are registered. For the other coaches who want to play, there will be a draw for the team selection order.

    5mn

    Penalties On - No offsides

    No line changes

Special : the games are played in playoffs mode best of 1 instead the exhibition mode. (we can't use the playoffs best of 7 or 5 mode, according that the game crash in netplay after the first game).

Hoping at least 4 players :)

  6. anyway one idea i had a while ago was to have a set schedule where you meet your opponent at an agreed upon date and time and if one doesnt show up its a forfeit. there might be for DNP's as a result but the leagues wouldnt drag on forever.

If we consider this game eSport, there is no difference between training in soccer on the middle of the week and having a game the weekend. So I say yes if we set a clear schedule. The only question is : are we eSport players, and is there enough players who can accept a schedule. And what with the casuals players ?

  7. Any players who are "weak A, strong B", "weak B, strong C" will always be difficult to place. They will either be a favorite to win their league, or a longshot in the other league.

And if we ever have 12 "A" elite, 12 "low A" level, 12 "pure "B", 12 "C", etc sign up for classic, that's exactly how we would set the leagues up!

But because we have such inconsistency in Classic sign-ups from season to season, I try to make it as fair and balanced as possible each season. That's why we have anywhere from 8-16 in each league, and I even tried a big league where "A" guys got weaker teams. The vast majority of people have fun and enjoy playing, even if that means not winning a title. There will always be divisions with clear favorites, and underdogs.

I also do a type of relegation, based on prior seasons and current gameplay. I have had a pretty good handle on all of the current GENS players and their skill level. And I almost always reach out to folks on the bubble to ask what they prefer. Some want a chance to win a title in a B or C league, some want the challenge of playing in A or B.

There is a considerable amount of thought and effort put into this each season, with the goal of making it fun for everyone involved.

Sure, nothing to say about the effort who are put in. I appreciate since the beginning. Not so sure that the new players can see all of this. As I can see, the future of the Classic looks not so good. Less and less motivated players every years. And in result no new players for the other leagues.

What do we want, an NHL94 group who will dying, or do we want to have a sustainable competition ?

I thing we need a brainstorm action, with a refresh or a reboot.

My goal is to progress every season without some special training, maybe I can won a cup one day.

Having a promotion or relegation in level season after season, with clear goals would enjoy me. But maybe it's a personal point of view.

  8. This is true. There is a top half and bottom half of A. (Top half you call Elite.)

And B is guys that are decent, and (usually) have experience playing online. (There are a couple new guys I have seen in the past year that somehow start at mid-B skill level, like CBK. He would have won any "C" entry level league, probably.)

Then C, guys that are new to online play.

    I don't see a D level myself. I would group it with C.

D, E, or more, come in sense if you decide to split the coaches in a equal number on each level. (see above, I edited my post)

We can split all the B coaches in B1, B2, B3... group and have a C for the lowest. I prefer Elite, A, B, C, D etc, whit an equal number in each. Depending of the number of coaches who enter in.

  9. He finished 11-29 in A with MTL. I think you, Texas and Ba55 had the same chance of winning, though choosing HFD was the bigger challenge.

It's on our appreciation, personally I don't think there is a good perception on what is a B level...

In my opinion, A, B and C level are not so objective.

I see there is A+ players, we can call them Elite players or Hardcore players , for example, Carse when he was at his top, Flaming, Icestorm, you Kingraph, Premium, AJ, Canadiansfan, Freydey and maybe swow at the time. Sorry if I forgot someone, I just site the players who I played against, with unforgettable moment.

So if an A player finish 11-29 in A Classic, that's not suppose automatically that he is a B player, just an A players who lost against the the Hardcore players in here.

Elite, A, B, C, are more accurate, and pretty sure that there is a D level, even more.

Personally, I was hoping there were promotion and relegation introduce with the time, a player can refuse his promotion if he prefer to play in his courante level. This is a logical way to equilibrate the competition. If a coach don't play 70 % of his games without any good reason, he is puled out for 1 or 2 season or more, depending on the percentage of play.

2 division with maybe 10 or 12 team per level could be the good approach. Best of 7 for the 8 first, promotion for the 2 finalists, and relegation for the lowest coach on each division, or a barrage playoff with the 4 lowest ranked coaches. This could regenerate the interest on Classic and link seasons with long-term goal, and maybe encourage coaches to play all their games.

  10. The D league was a unique 20 game league that Halifax/Chaos supported. It was not a lower skill level than C. It does show though, that we did have an A/B/C that year!

No "A" level player has ever been a replacement coach that was allowed to compete for the B/C title. Only used to fill games. Other way around almost always goes to guys who bug me that they want to play in A, or are happy to fill in.

Don't be confused, I'm 100% in agreement on skill levels and setting up leagues. That's always been the intent from the beginning.

    Ok, my mistake then

  11. For classic, we have always tried to group people into similar groups, depending on sign ups. Particularly for Genesis....SNES has a smaller curve. (Though the same 2-3 buds are dominating there).

I'm perplex... I remember the Classic 2013 Fall where you won the A league and the D league at the same time. So if you call that similar group...

I'm here since 2010, for me the 1st problem in the Classic was the replacement coaches, they were put in any league, without any regard of there level, the result was unbalance competitions. This shouldn't happen, replacement coaches need to have the proper level to enter in a league. The competition will be more equitable, and the record table would be more significant.

I imagined time ago, that we can use a rating system similar to chess. With an Elo rating, it would be easier to dispatch all the players in the different leagues and find the adequate replacement coach.

  12. I do not agree that pass shots and CB check should be banned.

However, I do think that we should do more for our new people.

I do think that there is a natural progression that happens, and if you are Tier B, you probably don't do many pass shots or CB checks. As you learn and get better, you may advance to A, and then you probably will encounter a lot more of them. So in a way, there already is an (unofficial) "ban" on pass shots and CB: They don't happen in the Tier a newbie will be playing in!

However, I am a little afraid that some new guys decide not to stick around when they get trounced by Vets. A solid B player can still kill a newbie (who really is C level), and some guys may leave after a few of these beatings. Perhaps there should be a C tier, only for newbies? Maybe we will only get 4 or 5 guys, but it might be more encouraging for them to play at their own level? Then if they stick with it, they can go to B? (It is worth noting according to the Classic Waiting List, there is a ton of B players, and not so many As. It might be better for Bs to have the new guys taken out, so the B league isn't monstrous again?)

Totally agree, only for the CB check, who I think it's a bug of the game, not a real skill.

We need definitely a reserved league for C players

  13. I agree for the most part, only for the pass shot, I don't use it often because I'm not trained enough, but it's definitely part of the game.

For the CB check, I think there is a hack, is it efficient ? If yes, it should be use in all league, as the weight hack and the goalie hack.

Concerning the new players, I said often in the past that this site is not really an NHL'94 communality, it's just a group of guys who like to play NHL'94 in a certain way.

New players are often enthusiast, but not a lot are staying, it's a fact.

People who like to play differently, or with another point of view are not specially welcome here.

Nothing is really done to protect new players, and specially the level of play. Ok, the classic league is more equilibrated that in the past, but I can't count the number of time, who A, B and C players where mixed without any logic.

There isn't any C or D league here, specially run for new players.

We can edit rom easily, and I don't think it would be a Titan work to create different level league for all players.

My point of view is that we need to create an efficient competition structure with promotion and relegation. For regular players, and another for casual players.

Personally, I would use more of my time to change something, but I need to confess that my english level is too limited to get on the point, organize this kind of project would be indeed difficult for me. I proposed in the past that we open specials section in the forums, for different Nationality, a French section, a Russian section, a German section, etc... To extend the number of players, and maybe having different leagues, with other teams that the NHL teams. There where positives reactions, but nothing was done.

I agree too for the zero tolerance about the calender, most of the league are ruined by the players who don't play their games.

Some propositions were formulate, but like I said, new ideas are not welcome here.
