I'll be back for season 4, sticking with the Wild.
-
Guys, keep in mind that without DaDonch or someone else working on the rom we may not be able to get new logos onto the game. It would probably be best to wait until that is figured out before teams start exchanging hands.
-
I'd rather keep this semi-realistic.

Once you get into the higher levels of competition, I think a lot of really subtle things turn out to be huge. Most people can score in all kinds of ways, but it's paying attention to how the AI is lining up and adjusting on the fly based on that. You get into trouble when you try to force things to work. A lot of it is having patience on offense and defense. Not turning the puck over either in your own end or in the opposition's end will really cut down on the number of good scoring opportunities you have to defend.
Also, there's all kinds of intangible things like keeping focused, not pressing, knowing when to slow down the pace and when to really push it. All of those things come together with practice so that when you're in a groove over a number of games, you don't think about strategy so much as you just react and execute. And I think you really have to plot your line out so that all of the pieces complement each other and offer different types of threats on offense. Light players are obviously a benefit, but if a light player is only a passer or a checker, you can really box yourself in at times on offense. I haven't seen anyone run what I would consider to be the perfect or ideal line so obviously there are a number of different ways to build a team, but the key I think is they must have a cohesion between the parts that results in a synergistic effect.

I'll respond in more detail later, but I do want to say that I support AJ as a commissioner of the league. I know he would do a great job with it and I think he'd be dedicated, fair, and open to discussion -- all very important things to ensure the continued success of the league.

Wild lose to the Rangers 4 games to 3. Game 7 was a classic, won by the Rangers in OT. Great series VC.

I think im going to get a punching bag to put beside computer or just fricken retire .I am such a f**kin freakout artist!!! seriously though I really should quit playing nhl94 ,but the only way I think I can is to shutdown internet or smash computer....pathetic..and I think im getting worse !!!
A punching bag could be a good idea, I'm not a rager myself, but I definitely don't want to hear about the first '94 related causality.

This is why we need to adopt a playoff scheduling procedure for the playoffs ... AIM works great when you have a bunch of opponents to be played at any time, but when there's just one guy you have to play in a week's time, getting on AIM isn't good enough. It's very easy to miss that person and vice versa.
We need to schedule using threads, suggesting times, and confirming times. That way if a series doesn't get played, there is an easy decision to be made about who was at fault.

Update again, Vocally and I were supposed to play today before the Super Bowl, Ive talked to him, he's trying to go over to a friends house to play ...
Already figured out we can't play Monday, he's got school until 3pm and I have to work from 3 to midnight.
-
I do like the way the playoff and stats races play out with gradually releasing games, yet it's probably true that more games will be played on the whole if all games are released.
How about releasing the games in a half season format, or even a quarter season format? That way we could have built-in checkpoints, while allowing more games to be played without completely destroying the intrigue of a good race and offsetting the overall 'flow' of the season.
-
The main difference is that in the classic league, all the games are released at the same time. I kind of like the time-release GDL schedule, though.. For next season, though, i'd like to see games released in pairs, so you have a bunch of home-and-home matchups.
It wouldn't be a horrible idea to release all of your games vs. a certain opponent at the same time. At least then you'd only have to find a guy online once, and conceivably get all of your common games played.
-
Just to update, Vocally and I tried to play and had connection issues, so we are now scheduled to play on Sunday before the Super Bowl.

That, and knocking off the net to avoid a scoring chance against...
Knocking off the net is really easy on the SNES version. I think my record, after a goal, was knocking the net in different directions 3 or 4 times. If you angle just to the inside of the post, while holding diagonally on the controller, it will come off with a well timed check.

As for going AWOL, it's a difficult thing to explain without you guys booing and hissing me out of the community. It's simply this:
I have lost interest in playing 94. Not completely, but enough that a full blown season is too much for me to play in. I can't stress the "play" part enough. I still love the community, and am the type of person who enjoys organizing and planning events for others to enjoy. This is why i've been trying to get my own league off the ground. I'm not going to be playing in GDL again, but i'd be dedicated to being the commish for it. However, like i've said, I don't feel I should be even in the running for candidates. Like I said, if nobody else is stepping up and dmitri does not have the time, i'd be glad to.
For the record, Donch wasn't 'forced' to name a replacement, per-say. I stepped down half because making the deadline would have been a ridiculous amount of games in a short amount of time, and again, half because i've lost interest.
Commence the throwing of tomatoes.
That's cool. Like I said, I didn't know the details.
However, given that you've lost interest in making it through a whole season as a player, it doesn't inspire great confidence that you would remain interested in commishing an entire season. It's nothing personal, just my thoughts in response to other coaches.
-
If dmitry does not want to run this league, I wouldn't mind it at all if Logan ran it. He seems to have the dedication and hard working mindset to be a commish. What do you guys all think?
Logan's a good player, but I would have concerns considering it appeared like he went awol this year and the league was forced to name a replacement. I'm not sure what the details were but I don't recall ever reading an explanation for it.
And DaDonch did a great job.
For the next commish, assuming Dmitry still wants to carry on the league through his website, there are three main roles I see. Conducting the draft, creating the rom, and administrating the season (including naming replacements, handling disputes, setting deadlines). It would be fine if we had two or even three commissioners that could split up the workload.

Sorry. After midnight doesn't work for me at all. I'll see what I can do for tomorrow, that should be possible.
Tomorrow evening or earlier is the best time for me along with Sunday before the Super Bowl. Friday is a possibility but I'm going to be studying all day, so its not ideal. Saturday I'm going to be busy from morning to night.
Let me know on tomorrow or the other days. But try to give me a fair notice if you can.
BTW, what are the best times for you this week?

there is an error on the playoff tree... i forfited my last 3 games vs pill pill and bhf.. so i got -0 thus putting me in the 8th seed.
Carse, if you look at it, 63 points would not have gotten you into the playoffs either way. If everyone would have forfeited their final games, Smozoma would have 65 points and the final seed. If no one was allowed to forfeit, Smozoma would still have more points than you because he'd get -3 for DNP and you'd get -9.
-
carse wins the tiebreaker and i also feel that carse should be allowed in, but i assume what donch said is the final word so ill live with what he said.
AJ, I edited my post because I didn't realize how DaDonch had figured this out. I looked at it again, and if Carse is allowed to forfeit games, he still doesn't make the playoffs because Smozoma's last game was against Vocally Caged, giving Smozoma another 2 points.
If no one is allowed to forfeit games, Carse still misses the playoffs based on having less games completed than Smozoma. So either way, Carse is the odd man out.
I didn't see that before I edited my post.
DaDonch's team is the one and only team that misses the playoffs due to allowing to Vocally Caged to forfeit.
-
Donch, nice graphic for the playoff bracket.
edit -- I commented on some of the playoff seedings before looking more closely at how the points were affected by VC's forfeits.

I think that aligning the conferences and divisions based on the relative strength of coaches is arguably more important than location. We should do everything we can to even out the talent pool among divisions and conferences.
