  1. Just looked at NYR FF wins (15) and ff ties (11) and think that is a bit rediculous

In my 5 DAYS in this league he has been online once or twice, and both times too busy to play, I have been online almostt constantly. Now I don't really care for myself because his positioning is irrelevant to me, but as for teams in his division and other conference teams i think this is unfair

Teams he got ff wins against:

Detroit 4 I have played detroit but he hasn't been on much, I'd think this should be ties at best for NYR

Philly 4 This is fine never seen the guy online

Quebec 2 Never seen this guy either but they did play 2 games

Boston 4 I have seen this guy on quite a bit alot more than NYR. boston deserves the wins here if anybody

Vancouver 1 this guy has been on more than NYR but not as much as others, either tie or van win

SO by my count he should have 6 ff wins and the remaining 9 games should be ties and in some cases losses

Teams he got ff ties against:

Buffalo 4 (thats me) He was unavailable the one time i saw him online, i played 17 games in 1 day and could have done it all 5

Calgary 1 Calgary was on almost as much as me he deserves the win

Edmonton 1 edm wa just replaceed i gues this is fine

Pittsburg 3 I saw alot of buccs ff tie here is unreasonable give the wins to buccs

San Jose 1 he was pon a decent amount but tie could be fine

St. Louis 1 I did see this guy but not alot ff tie is probably good here

SO here from 11 ff ties he should have received 3 and received 8 losses

This probably needs to be looked at closely for other teams as well as this process is frustrating lots of people.

I certianly don't blame you for being frustrated. I think the admins do the best they can to figure out FF and DNP's in a league that was full teams not playing. It's certainly unfair to some to players like yourself when those teams(like NYR) have had two months to play their games and dont even play half of them. I think Schwartz and company will be able to weed out these types of players for the next season.

    Good luck in the playoffs!

  2. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always kind of figured that the point of A and B league was simply that we had too many interested players for one league and had to split them in two. I never imagined that the point was to make sure players were segregated.

I think maybe his point was that the 'A' league champ is considered to be the overall champion of their console (GENS/SNES) because (I assume) that the 'A' leagues have the best GENS/SNES players and thus shouldn't be scheduled (forced) to play a series with their B league champions. But certainly if either GENS or SNES champ wanted to play a series with their B champ then they could.

  3. My birthday isn't close to September 4, 1993 but I do remember it like it was yesterday. It was first day of school. Grade 11 in fact - the toughest year of high school. I was getting my stuff together...my 5 star notebook, putting on my outdated chip and pepper wetwear t-shirt and ripped bluenote jeans. I wasn't looking forward to another year of cafeteria lunches and annoying morning announcements.

My dad gave me a present before work. My first ea sports game...SNES nhl94. "It's time for you to become a man now, son", he said as he left. "Sweet, thanks dad I said" with excitement and a tear rolling down my face.

I never did become a man but I did become "sick" and stayed home for the first 8 weeks of school. Lots of my buddies became sick as well and huge tournamens ensued. "mono" classics and "fever" invitationals were scheduled constantly over the next two years. School grades suffered but it didn't matter cause it was if heaven was raining down on us everyday.

The moral of this story is wearing outdated chip and pepper wetwear can get you beat up.

  4. I just finished playing my first online SNES game with an exhibition game against Schwartz. I lost 4-0 (personally i think he was taking it easy on me) but nonetheless it was a fun experience although playing with a keyboard sucks...lol...but once i get my adaptor for my contoller...hopefully ill give him a better challenge.

Ultimately the game was fun to play but I appreciated the fact that schwartz took the time to walk me through the process of getting it up and running. Having guys like him in charge is great thing in getting a competitve SNES league built. Thanks again!

if anyone wants to add me to aim...my screen name is hfx2006 and id love to play some exhibition games.

  5. sounds fair enough...although ultimately leagues are striving to find guys to play all 40 games..like you did...

i like the idea that someone had mentioned in another post of a forfeit team being deducted a point...so forfeit winner (2 pts) forfeit loser(-1pt)

  6. My opinion on the issue involves lengthening the season. Because the games are so short, the season almost ends before things get really intense. I believe that the more games we play under the league schedule, the more alluring and magnetic the league becomes.

Having said that, I would like to lengthen the season by 16 games to 56 total.

    1) 4 games against teams from your conference and 2 against the other conference

Kinglakerfan - I'm stoked as well for playing in the spring league.

I think extending the league to 56 games onto the schedule makes sense.. Although more time may be needed to finish a league but with committed players, two months is more then enough time considering some guys are playing 15-20 games in a day.

And the idea of playing 4 against your own conference and two against the other conference still allows for rivaliries to develop but still keep a sense of fairness cause you will always play an equal amount of home games and away game vs everyone.

This would work for the GENS assuming everybody was on board for it however currently the SNES A and B leagues are having a tough time getting everyone to play (less then 50% games played with only a couple days left before the deadline). So I guess its important to determine if there are 20 guys that will play all their games regardless of how good they are for next season.

  7. Of course rivalries are important....but I dont believe they are built through the regular season.(maybe when im in a league ill think different). I think they are built through playoffs series,a lot of exhibition games, or regional locations(like the sydney guys whove played against each other for several years).

Im guessing the coach of boston(SNES A) doesnt feel like theres much of a rivalry playing quebec(the deer) after being outscored 20 to 5 in 3 games so far.

On the reverse side, the94kid lost in the finals in the spring league to JotaC(where a possible rivalry could exist)...but the schedule only has them playing each other once this season.

Everything will be different from one season to the next...guys will drop out, switch conferences, more players will sign up and more leagues will evolve. These things will take time for sure(building rivalries) but in the meantime I think an even schedule makes more sense.

As for the push for the playoffs being less intense, it wont make a difference either way because theres still 20 teams gunning for 16 spots(and since 80% of the teams get in..is there really much of a playoff race?)

  8. I can understand the fun of keeping the realism of these leagues by having teams play more against your own division and less against the other conference like the NHL does of course...ultimately however I dont believe this makes for a fair league. It doesn't make sense (as an example) in the GENS A that some guys have to play Kgman 3 or 4 times and others only play him once or twice.

To have a fair league....everyone should play everyone twice...one home game and one away game....have the top sixteen make the playoffs (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15...and so on.....each round there after..highest remaining seed plays lowest remaing seed and so on.)

Again..don't get me wrong...there's nothing bad about the current leagues cause some people like that league that format. But is it the fairest way? What do you think?

  9. Rudy is another Cape Bretoner who is near the top of the SNES A standings.

Something in the water indeed! ;)

Haha naw in seriousness it's just a lot of passion for the game and a lot of practice. All of us have had the game pretty much since it came out (I got it for Xmas back in Dec 1993, so I've been playing for almost a good 13 years), and we've been playing tournaments fairly regularly (once every week or two) against each other in person (using it as a predrink event before going out usually) for the past five years or so. Although lately it's just been 94kid and I and a couple of other guys who aren't in the league ; Rudy hasn't been around for an in-person event in ages, and the other regulars we used to play championships against have moved away. But there was a time (about 2002-2004) where big tournaments involving all of the Sydney 94 crew were pretty much a weekly event.

Anyhow we love to play and have a lot of practice, so I guess that explains our success in this league so far!

However, we're still hungry to see one of us bring home the championship. Last year the three of us made it to the final eight, two of us made the final four, and one appeared in the final, but none could bring home the hardware; JotaC and his Edmonton Oilers were champions. We can have all the success in the world but without a championship there's just something missing.

Good to see another Nova Scotian on the forums! Do you play SNES or GENS?

I can see there is the sense of pride of bringing back the island a championship again...not since the CB oilers in 93 for the calder cup! Although anything can happen in the playoffs, I think the overall odds are excellent that one of you will bring back the title...

Shout out to Rudy as well. I figured he was a caper also but didn't see it anywhere and didnt wanna assume.

I noticed 94kid has pittsburgh yet he made the finals last year? I thought maybe if you finished second in the league you'd have second last pick for teams for the following season....or are there a lot of newbies paying their dues in the 'A'?

I played SNES mostly...athough I haven't played for a very long time...maybe 8 years ago. I'm in the process of trying to figure out the online computer gaming. I've never played online through the computer before...XBOX was the extent of my online gaming so far.

I was gonna order an adaptor for my SNES controller. (I'm assuming that's what I need) Then I assume its as simple as downloading the stuff i need from the nhl94online site and loading it up.

I have both a pc and a mac but I would prefer to play on the mac. do you(or anyone for that matter) know if it will work on a mac?
