  1. With.

Ken, I assure you that when you are bidding blind, playing WITH the fix in will be better. You won't have to balance between having low weight and high attributes. I mean, why do you think we call it the weight "bug," instead of a weight "difference." It's something that the cartridge shipped with that makes it all fucked up.

    ok, thats cool.

I think the new ROM could certainly play more even, I just need to spend time playing with it :(

is there a ROM floating around with these changes that anyone knows of?

  2. Well if there was going to be a season 2, the player attributes used would be the ratings on the NHL95 rom. That's what made the FVHL/Dynasty concept so cool. You draft current studs and also 'future' studs for subsequent seasons.

In the FVHL I had a solid front line of Klima/Ronning/Courtnall,G for the first season. Tucked away on my bench were Kovalev and Amonte who would be considered starters in season 2. I also overaid for Richter because his rating jumped from low 60's to mid 80's by season 3.

But now? Now you ask?????? Bupkisss. I gots Bupkisssssss. :P

hmm yeah I can see that.

but also, if you're not familiar with 95 or 96, you are kind of flying blind

  3. Glad to have ya, Ken.

Only thing is, the basis of this league is the custom rosters. We have a budget and we bid on players. It's really actually cool, you should like it.

oh yeah, the "fantasy" aspect is sweet. I was just commenting on the weight issue people were talking about in the other thread. I just don't have any familiarity with that ROM...but w/e not a big deal

  4. Nothin'g official but I registered 5 minutes after noon and picked New Jersey.

Somehow I doubt the line on NJ was very long, LOL.

People still think fast teams and highly rated teams are the way to go. Look at the cup winner this year. Dallas. Fast teams have no defense, although I must say gr8199 is good with Boston so if he got them he'll be tough.

dude kgman won with Dallas b/c he's a lot better than anyone else

  5. ken starts out 0-1!!!! (hmm perhaps my 3 week layoff showed :))

playing "newcomer" granddragon11, Detroit traveled to Quebec to starr the 2-3-2 best of 7.

Quebec jumped out by winning game 1, 6-4, in a very tight game.

Not as tight as game 2, which Detroit won 7-6 in OT to head back to motor city tied at 1 game a piece.

Stubborn Quebec was not afraid of the Octopi, though, winning game 3 6-4 and sending a HUGE message with a gigantic 9-4 game 4 to take a 3-1 series lead.

Detroit as determined to go down swinging, and took a tight 5-3 win in game 6 and head back to Canada down 3 games to 2.

Detroit came out fired up in game 6, and turned a tight match into a 6-3 win, forcing the greatest spectacle in sport:

    GAME 7!!!!!!!!

Both teams cranked up the defensive gears in this won, with Qeuebc striking first. Yzerman scored the equalizer, and Federov the go ahead goal on a penalty shot. Quebec quickly even the score, though, and we're at 2-2 headed to the 3rd.

CAN YOU FEEL THE INTENSITY IN THE AIR????

Detroit could, as a Ciccerrelli slapper gave Detroit a 3-2 lead.

4 minutes to go...3 minutes...2 minutes...1minute...and then Quebec scores to tie it!!

HEads down on the ice, Detroit relinquishes yet another goal, as Quebec takes a 403 lead with 43 seconds to go.

and that's how it ended. Quebec 4-3, winning the series 4-3.

great games, see you when I have home ice baby!!!

  6. The good news is there will absolutely be up to 20 teams per level A and B. Level A will be the top players, and Level B will be the next level and rookie players.

There's no voting on that, it's happening.

Also, I am going to have the players vote on certain rules, so in that sense it will be a democracy. Stuff like trades, everyone having equal teams, penalties, offisides, etc.

As usual I'll keep everyone posted.

    -Evan

kudos Evan you do a great job

  7. in each of the 4 first round playoff series in the Campbell conference, Barring LA blowing a 3-0 lead, the lower seeded team won. Just goes to show u how much the regular season means.. haha. Just wonderin if anyone has comments as to whats making this playoffs have so many upsets

Dallas was the fav over Cal

Winnipeg and Detroit (me) was very close. we could probably play 100 games and each win close to 50/50. he got me this time ggs

I am surprised at the the other 2 results.

this just means we should have shorter regular seasons!!

  8. Well, now that Winnipeg has bounced me into Mario Golfing territory, I need some way to keep me entertained before the next league starts. I propose "Ken's Open Challenge".

What it is: You or anybody else agrees to play me in a best of 7 series, Gens 94. Our result - and the result of all of these series - will be posted in this thread. There is no ultimate winner or prize, except that I'll be keeping track of my record against all opponents, inlcuding you if you accept my challenge!!

What's the point: It's mostly a way for me (and you!!) to play somewhat meaningful games in the 'offseason'. I get kind of bored playing just exhibitions, and this will give me, and maybe you, some more incentive and reason to play games.

What this isn't: A way for me to prove I'm better or worse than anybody else. I simply like to keep track of wins and losses - maybe I'm competitive, maybe I just need a reason to play, I dunno. If you beat me you win no prize* except my eternal respect and admiration.

Other rules: Not many. You should try to schedule a time to play with me beforehand, but I'm often online M-F at night for ad hoc challenges. I don't care who is home/away, but we will switch it up if we play twice. You can be any team you want except the All Stars or Chicago. Ditto for me. Line changes off, offsides off, penalties on. This is how I grew up playing, and since this is my challenge, I make the rules!

    So, who's up??

*Ken reserves the right to give out prizes :D

  9. Game 1: Winnipeg takes it on the road, 7-4. Teemu makes a statement to the Hart Trophy voters with 5 goals.

Game 2: Winnipeg seizes home ice advantage with a 5-3 victory. Steen scores the game winner with 38 seconds left, and Zhamnov adds another tally late.

Game 3: Yzerman leads Detroit to a 6-4 triumph. Winnipeg has no answer for the future Hall of Famer's 4 goals.

Game 4: Detroit sends the Jets fans home incensed again, crushing Winnipeg 8-1. Essensa is pulled after giving up goal #6.

Game 5: Steen responds to the embarrassment in game 4 by playing like his ass is on fire. He scores 2 in the first minute, getting the Jets on track for an 11-2 win. Steen and Zhamnov each score four goals, and Teemu gets a hat trick. Olausson gets 4 assists.

Game 6: The Jets finally get the first home victory of the series, sending the Red Wings to the golf course in a very close 3-2 overtime win. The Jets are cruising along until there's one second left in the second. Zhamnov, Steen AND Selanne all end up in the box at the same time. They sit there laughing and joking as Mike Eagles does a hell of a job holding off the Red Wings. Yzerman finally scores towards the end of the 2:03 power play to make it 2-1. Then another goal late ties it at 2. The Jets get a power play on an Yzerman penalty and try their hardest to put the game away, but can't. All of a sudden Federov takes off down the wing, slides one to Dallas Drake for a one-timer, Drake puts it right over the left shoulder of Essensa...and the buzzer sounds, saving the Jets. The Jets don't take this miracle for granted, as Zhamnov wins the faceoff to start overtime, swoops in and scores on Cheveldae 8 seconds into the third, a power play goal.

congrats man. I felt a bit unlucky to draw you in the first round, as you match up with me very well.

good luck in the next round.
