addisonbr
Edmonton and St. Louis finally met on the ice today and erased two provisional forfeits. The first game was won by Edmonton 5-2, setting up a critical third game for the Oiler faithful - win and they tie for the final playoff spot. Lose and they're out for sure. After three hard-fought periods at the Kiel Center the score was tied 2-2. Left out of that tally was a beautiful deke by Petr Klima - but about two pixels before the puck crossed the line, Klima was knocked cold by the goalie, injured for the period, plexiglass barrier slams down preventing the puck from going any further. And, of course, no penalty to offset the loss of Klima or the goal. Demoralized, the Oilers lost the faceoff in overtime and fell prey to a wonderful Blues one-timer to end the game and their season. Edmonton will not be fighting on in the playoffs, but their fans are relieved and gratified that their exit from contention was finalized on the ice. Thanks to St. Louis for the games.
