The last thread was just to see what kind of interest there was for a new league, seemed to have some good responses so I decided to go through with the idea. I decided to use the NHL 2009 rom by swos & Mahavishnu. I think already it has the weight bug fix. It can be downloaded from http://update.nhl94.com/ .
Format
There will be 2 leagues, A league and B league, with 12 teams each. There will be two conferences of 6 teams in each league. You will play everyone in your conference four times and everyone out of conference two times splitting home ice evenly, 32 games. Top four teams from each conference make the playoffs.
Point System
It's an 09 rom, so we are going to have an 09 point system
Win/OT Win - 2 points
Tie - 1 Point
OT Loss - 1 point
Loss - 0 points
Rules
Period legnth: 5 minutes
Penalties: On, Except off-sides
Line Changes: off

Please Read
Leagues are full and teams and conferences are set. Please let me know if you would like to change teams before the league starts. Shaftman is currently working on the rom, stats and attributes for players were off, so there are changes being made. Once the rom is finished and the league is given a subforum under the Active Leagues section, the season will start. Even though the league is full I'm still taking people on waiting list spots for both leagues.

I'm liking the two divisions idea, I think the way to go will be an A division and a B division with 12 teams each. This is my first time ever trying to organize a league and a draft would get complicated for me, so sorry I don't think I'll do a draft.
Idea 1 - Two conferences of 6. Play everyone in your conference 4 times and play everyone out of conference 2 times (32 game schedule), splitting home ice evenly. Top four of each conference makes playoffs.
Idea 2 - No conferences. Play everyone 4 times (44 games) with top 8 teams making the playoffs.
Idea 3 - Two conferences of 6. Two divisions of 3 in each conference. Same schedule as Idea 1. Everyone makes the playoffs. Winners of each division get a bye in first round of play-offs while other 8 coaches play a wild card round.

I'm thinking about starting a Gens league with the 09 rom. I have been itching to get back into a Gens league for awhile and haven't been able to get into one so I'm thinking I may just want to start my own.
I'm thinking like two conferences with 12 teams, each conference will have 3 divisions of 4 teams. The winner of each division locks up home ice in the playoffs. Play-offs will have 8 teams from each conference that play in a best of seven. Regular season format I'm still planning out and open to suggestions. Right now I'm favoring a 40 game schedule with 4 games against each team in your division, 2 games against everyone else in the conference, and 1 game against every out of conference opponent. This isn't a sign up thread, just trying to see what kind of interest there is out there and if anyone wants to help out since I have never run a league before.

Alrighty, I'm going to try to get a summer season of "A", "B", and "Farm" going.
Depending on the signups, I might just do a wide-open non-canon summer league instead.
This signup thread will be open for two weekends (closes Monday, June 1st).
(Edit: I will probably go with 22 coaches (possibly 24), so at this point any new sign ups will be playing in the Farm league.. which I hope I can make fun)
So, I also need you to say which option(s) you are interested in participating in:
Option 1: you would like to play in a serious "official blitz season 3" with separate "A" and "B" leagues, as well as a "Farm" league where new or extra coaches can get some fun and experience. Please specify which level you are interested in.
Option 2: you would like to play in an "unofficial" league during the summer that is just everyone in one big league.

Speaking of off-seasons metz, I've been training with countless shootouts getting my spin-o-rama and dekes pack and pretty tick-tack-toe passing plays back. My nine month off-season is about to end. Any room for new players this summer?

I would LOVE to see an updated roster rom come out for these two games. I love going coast-to-coast, scoring, and than hitting the guy and beating his ass in a fight. Wish EA Sports would bring back after whistle fights, make it a little more realistic and gives the frustration aspect of the game. I'd love to have Chris Pronger snipe a shot and than go after someone like Sean Avery or Shane Doan.

The Devils will be fine, they have a great offense and leadership. I'm sure Weekes will step up to the plate or whom ever comes to New Jersey to guard the pipes.

That option seems most clear to me, displays the type of win or loss in a sensible order and keeps it easy enough to look at it and be able to separate wins and losses.

How would this team even build a fan base in a city that already has an original six team? Seems kind of odd to me.

by looking at the videos on youtube, the "new" fighting in nhl09 sucks once again...
year after year, same old boxing style crap
now on the other hand... the 2k9 fighting looks great
more hanging on, refs following the fight, looks way more realistic
i wonder if the guys at EA ever seen an actual NHL fight?
they should take a lesson from 2k9, and steal the ideas for EA...
but i wont be around to find out... this is officially my last season of playing the EA nhl games, im retiring after this season
ive been buying ea nhl games since 92, so thats 16 games at X $$$ amount, you do the math...
i held out one more year cuz i heard this years fighting was gonna be new, new yes, but still sucks ass...
Yeah the fighting in 09 is god awful. I have had too many lame two-punch knock-outs, but it does seem to give your team a bit of a boost.
Other than the fighting, which should not really be a factor, it's a great game.

Yesterday as a buddy and I were playing a game of 09 on 360 he was switching his controls to classic and there was an option for "NHL94 Controls" which was very much like the SNES controls. Haven't given it a try yet, but thought it was pretty interesting.

i am sorry to evan and metz because a couple of day i had trying to join a league with two accounts because i cant get enough of this gm...and i know i am not the only one in this community and the cheaters will be unmasked soon...and all the pets detectives does their job as good as Avery does it...and after all this controversy i has been suspended and now i am back....because i was washed in the Avery laundry...i know i am not alone and i hope the others cheaters will be unmasked...because Columbo is everywhere

I suspected that of Prodigy and Master as well when they both joined cap league on the same day with almost identical screen names. Both had similar playing style as well, glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought so as well.
When I first registered with this site I thought that I screwed up and ended up making another account, kupuck19 and kuapuck19. Wasn't intentional, I've never used kuapuck19. Plus I told Evan that soon after I registered for Fall 07 league.

I like this idea. Known offenders AND suspicious users, right? I've got four we can list, that's for sure (I believe hokkee is reformed, but I'm not saying that if you're on probation that I should be your lazy parole officer).
Plus, as a league commissioner, I'm just itching to catch master and prodigy in a lie. In fact, I will talk to you both later today to try and confirm you are not the same person once again - it's time for a re-test. Maybe SNES Classic will be an 11-team league...

For those having trouble picking up assists, I found out that you can force your teammates to do one-timers by doing the 'shoot' action (flicking the right stick or pressing the shoot button) when the puck is on the way to them.
First game I tried this little tactic I got four penalties because of the hit stick lol, don't think I was flicking it right or doing it at the right times.

Very tragic, I remember watching the 2007 draft and thought that he was going to be one of the more exciting rookies to maybe come to the NHL. Goes to show you that the craziest things can happen in life. Very sad story, R.I.P. Cherepanov.
