  1. Man, I was really optimistic about this project & I was so determined to show that us modders & emulation geeks aren't freeloaders, that I was going to buy the game just to show that I appreciated the thought of EA for us 94 fans, but what would it get me? I already have the real 94 cartridge. Why would I want this fake roster ripoff? I expected something equal to the original, I hoped for more, I got less.

  2. I finally beat the posted record of 34 goals in a game. I had tied the record twice, once with Buffalo (a long time ago, before I came to these boards) & once recently with Boston. Today, I posted up a 40-1 victory with Boston against Buffalo. Here's the specifics:

    Rules:

    Penalties on no offsides

    Auto line changes

    10 minute periods

Played on real Sega Genesis system, not emulator

    Stats:

    70 shots

    173 body checks

5/5 on the power play, using 5 shots in 1:09

    3/3 on breakaways

A surprising only 1/3 on one-timers (this has to be an all-time low for me)

Only 8 completed passes the whole game (also a low for me)

    49 faceoffs won

Vladamir Ruzicka 16 pts. (5 goals, 11 assists)

    Dmitri Kvartlanov 9 goals

Adam Oates missed almost the entire 2nd period with an injury. We still scored 18 in the 2nd & Oates still finished with 8 pts & the #3 star of the game.

Crowd peak level 149 dB, average of 119 dB

Unfortunately I don't have a video card for my computer, but I captured the end results screens on my camcorder & will send them when I get a chance to use my father-in-laws computer with a video card.

  3. red: for overrated you forgot lemuiex oh wait why not make it the whole pittsburgh team????

as for the most underrated player... in my opinion: dominic hasek...underrated as goalie AND you can score with him

and believe it or not i have good luck with whitmore from vancouver...go figure

also: i have used lebeau a couple of times...SOOOOO underrated!!! use him and use him often!!!!!!

See, I'm one of the few people who likes Lemieux. I score tons of goals with him.

As far as goalies go, Sean Burke seems to do quite well, moreso when he's playing against me.

    Nice avatar by the way

  4. Underrated:

Gord Murphy - plenty of things he can't do, but he can check & shoot, which for me means unassisted transition goals.

Tomas Sandstrom - best pull up slap shooter in the game

Adam Graves - consistant hat trick producer on the 2nd line

Jeff Brown - Great offensive defenseman, defense is good enough

    Overrated:

Cam Neely - by far, the most overrated player. No other mid-80s player has a tougher time scoring a hat trick

Brian Leetch - All-Star or not, I can't score with him

Jaromir Jagr - Goes on insufferable scoring droughts. Lower rated Kevin Stevens scores a lot more.

Al Iafrate - Has a killer shot, but can't seem to get in position to use it

  5. I have a nyko air flo & I love it. It's the controller with the fan inside to keep your hands cool, although I didn't even get it because of the that reason. The reason I got it is because it is the only controller I could find without webbing between the up down left & right on the D-pad. Plus you can customize the controller's many buttons very well, it's ergonomic & the fans really do help keep your hands cool.

  6. Hi Evan.  I followed all the suggestions above, I redownloade  the nhl94iso as specified, configured the bios and the game still does not play on the emulator.  When I load the game, the sega cd screen comes on, followed by a screen with sonic and some sega music, then the emulator screen goes blank.  Are the data files on the website missing something?

I'm still getting this problem even after downloading the new bios.

  7. I am hoping to someday edit 94 with new rosters, but with 1 twist to what I've seen people here do. I want to go beyond a player's traditional 0-6 ratings scale. In other words, I want to have players' default attributes to be a more true 0-100 scale like their adjusted attributes (after hot/cold calculations are taken into effect). I figure the easiest way to do this would be to control the hot/cold setting.

I am assuming that the computer's selection for a certain game's hot/cold players is completely random. Is there a way to avoid this randomization & select a hot/cold player? I figure it would be hard to rework the game's code, so I thought the easiest way to do it would be through save states. The problem is, how do I isolate the code in the save state that points to who is hot/cold?

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there another way adjust the ratings scale besides tinkering with the hot/cold setting? If not, how can I control who is hot or cold through save states or otherwise?

  8. That works great Evan thanks.  Everything is working fine now.  All I have to do is figure out how to burn the sega cd onto cd so I can play it. I'll look at Donny's site for that.  If I get that working I am going to try and do an updated sega cd version to play.  I'll try to use the 2005 player ratings from EA sports game.  I'll prob need graphics help when I finish all of that for Banners and team logos.  Thanks.  Oh I also need to figure out how to eliminate the audio from Ron Barr in the startup menu.  Because IF I do an updated verison and change what Ron says: if I dont eliminate the audio, he will continue to say the same thing (i.e he will talk about brian bradley on the lightning).  Anyone who knows how to do this let me know.  When I am done Maybe I can post a copy on this site.  I was also wondering, if I get this sega cd verison done to play burned, maybe we can graphically put the nhl94 forum on the boards as advertizing, haha.

Sounds like a cool project. Keep us posted. I may buy a Sega CD just to play it.

  9. Red: Why shouldn't there be penalty shots after the period ends?

Use  the SNES version and get the penalty shot call near the end of the period without a whistle before the end of the period.  The period will start with a penalty shot but it will not count and whistled dead right away.

Oh, I understand. The penalty shot after a period doesn't work correctly. I thought your were saying that there should not be any penalty shots after a period ends at all. I use the Genesis version, so that would explain why I wasn't familiar with #1 & #2.

  10. Just a little nitpicking, but I think the speedburst with puck could be kind of cheap. Not being able to have a speed burst with the puck allows the defense to catch up or close in on the puck. Giving a speed burst to the guy with the puck would disrupt the balance of the game. Can you imagine how many breakaways there would be?

  11. How about a real 1-100 ratings system instead of a 0-6 ratings system for player attributes? It would be hard to impliment, but would definitely help if there was a franchise mode. Stat building in a franchise mode wouldn't be that much fun if your guy only increments 1 or 2 points in his career.
