Did you see we now have 20,003 posts. How awesome is that?
BTW, who exactly did the 20,000th? They should get a cake or something.

CAPSLOCK = bad

I broke one of my toes doing a dive...don't ask me how, I am an amazingly clumsy person.

I'm new here so sorry if this sounds like a really stupid question, but why is '94 so revered when an entire season can't be played?
Why not? It's still the best hockey game ever made I think especially because it's shortcomings.
-
Step one. Spend every night for the next two weeks at your local strip club. Come home with body glitter on your clothes, smelling like cheap perfume. Insist that you aren't doing anything wrong, just meeting the boys for a beer, and you're just looking not touching and your Honey is the only one for you.
Step two. After the two-week trial period, play NHL94 at home for a couple of days, preferably in the same room (or next room) as your Honey while she watches Grey's Anatomy or something equally repulsive. Pop your head into the den every half hour or so and talk about how you had forgotten how fun that game is!
Step three. Casually mention over breakfast that you found out after playing for a couple of days that NHL94.com actually has online leagues - can you believe it? But you're not sure you'd have the time because most coaches are only available to play in the evenings, and that's when you usually go drinking with your friends. Besides, it's a kid's game, you were stupid to even bring it up. She would probably just make fun of you all the time if you actually started playing in a video game hockey league. How retarded. Forget I even brought it up. Pass the bacon please.
Step four. Sometime the next morning before 10:30am guaranteed, unwrap the FedEx-delivered controller your Honey ordered for you. Contact addisonbr for a test game so we can get you set up and confirmed.
addison: Your theory is inherently flawed. 1) because you're a guy and 2) becuase you're a guy you've thought WAY too much about it. and made a complex plan when you should have done a simple one.
Anyway you know most girls would still be upset. the argument would be thus: "you're not spending enough time with me"*pout*. trust me, i know*.
*I do not condone the action stated above, and disclaim ever using this technique.

BSDaemon or anybody else: Do you know if the Rangers logo ever changed? Their uniform is so simple and if seems like it has been the same forever. What would they have on it? A guy on a horse with guns blazing? An old west sheriff's badge?
-
I can't believe some one picked Quebec first other than me. Oh well Montreal isn't shabby so I should stop complaining.

Xstioph I agree! I wish they brought back the jerseys from the 90's. I liked those, they had three great colors: black white and a hideous yellow. Of course the yellow is my favorite. In my closet I have a Bure jersey in all three colors. *sigh*
Methinks they are trying too hard to be like the Whalers....
-
Awesome! You've outdone yourself again!

Using the backup goalie is fun when you are in a goofy mood. Sometimes they surprise you....with scoring goals...like Hasek or Riendeau

I use a Sega control pad with a USB at the end. I have no idea where it came from though, There used to be a site where you could buy this adapter that turned an old Sega control pad into a USB device, but the online store that made them stopped doing that for the Genesis. I believe that they still do it for NES and SNES. I wish I could remember what site it was.
Wow that was really not helpful. Sorry...perhaps someone on this else knows what I am talking about. I seem to have misplaced my marbles....

I almost always lose to the computer ><
You and I both my friend. There's not too much shame in that.
-
I'm signed up waiting on a test game.
-
Lets see my best are:
1)Quebec
2)Montreal
3)St Louis
4)Hartford
5)Winnipeg
Honorable Mention: Islanders, Buffalo, Boston
Worst (no matter what I always lose when I play as them):
1)Detroit
2)Dallas
3)Ottawa
4)San Jose
5) Pittsburgh
Honorable Mention: LA, NJ

Seems you have to be a veteran player to be accepted in any league.
The Classic 94 League should be starting again soon. I am not sure exactly when registration starts, but you can click on the calendar to see when it does. If you have any questions you can also go to NHL94online.com, that's where all the league stuff goes on. But don't limit yourself to only playing in the leagues. Most of the people who are in this community are willing to play a game with you online if you ask, and you'll see that a lot of us are willing to play.
addisonbr- It is a shame that certain people make things harder for people to get into the leagues and also make this community look bad. It's horrible actually. I know don't post a lot on the forum, but it makes me sad if only for the fact that I see how much work is put into this site by Evan and others. It seems that it is easier for most people to see only the problems (if there are any) and not the ENORMOUS amount of work that has been put into this site since it went up.

please describe this in greater detail. anybody else have similar results?
I don't know if I can explain it well but here goes. It's like sometimes when you play on the console there is a dissonance between what you hit on the controller and what happens on screen. Then the computer takes it advantage. It's almost like it reads what you've hit and then reacts to it BEFORE it happens on the screen. So when you play on the console you have to constantly think of how to do things and execute them before you normally would. Sometimes it works great and other times it is a fiasco. I hope that clears it up. I don't think I can explain any better.
Also I think that we (Evan and I) have killed every single cartridge we own with 20+ goals games. After having one of those the cartridge goes into shut down and the next few games we're lucky if we can get a 10+ goal game. It seriously adapts. I think it is the first learning computer built by Skynet.
-
two questions:
1. what cartridge; a hack or are you saying your personal copy seems to be harder than others?
2. is one on five something you can do with Genesis cartridge NHL '94? that'd be a reason to play it, I guess.
Well on the cartridge you play as one team (you can be any of the six players at a given time) against the computer. It's the same on the emulator...right? ( I hardly ever play the emulator) But this cartridge we have for the genesis is EVIL!!!! It's Evan's original cartridge (the first ever 94 he got). It doesn't keep records anymore, and it goes into what Evan and I lovingly call "MODE." Which is to say that no matter what team you are if you are playing the computer (no matter who the computer is) they put down defense that would make the Devils look like they are offensive machines!

segathon
You're my new hero.

Baseball Simulator 1000 baby!!!! All I have to say is the space park!!!!
-
You can always try our old cartridge that for some reason is now the hardest version of 94 on the market...
-
That is the craziest thing I have seen all day...if you look long enough you can see letters...kinda like a literary Rorschach...only it's hockey
-
Wow...I must say that girls who play 94 must be a rarity...does that mean I have to go into a museum? as long as they don't take away my sega
-
Welcome aboard! Nice to have another Rangers fan here. Hope you enjoy your stay!
-
That is one of the few things I actually don't pay attention to. So I wouldn't know if my team is playing better or worse. But I do know it is cool to see a very high crowd meter at the end...especially the ones that are so high that if it actually happened you would bleed out of you ears and you head would probably explode.
What cities have you seen games in?

I've seen all the locals for me (Isles, Rangers, Devils) and I have also seen a Plymouth Whalers AHL (?) game in Michigan...that's about it. I am planning on going to see some of the closer teams sometime soon (Boston, Philly, Buffalo, Washington) and a few out of the way ones like Vancouver, Nashville and Carolina.
So that would mean I have seen games in: NYC, Uniondale (Long Island), Secaucus (NJ) and Plymouth (MI).
I would LOVE to see Montreal or Toronto...but it is INSANELY expensive to get tix
MSG is the best place to go in the NYC area...but PLEASE don't go during an Isles or Flyers game violence tends to break out...
