Have you tried combability mode?
Are those all DOS editors?
I am using version 5.72 of NHLinfo and that works fine in Windows 7.
I put it here in attachment, so you can try it if you didnt already had it.
EDIT: Sorry, I made bad package, it was without wnhlinfo.exe.
-
I can't seem to run the editors in Windows 7 (x64) or in DOSBOX.. anyone?
Which editors you are trying to run and what happens when you are trying to run it?

I just managed to found out some things from from GSUMMARY.DB and GSUMMARY.SAV files. Now I am looking for a marking of "Gone For Game" injury. So if you are playing NHL95PC and "Gone For Game" injury happens, could you please upload your GSUMMARY.DB or GSUMMARY.SAV file to available somewhere. You can find GSUMMARY.DB from your NHL95 installation directory if you got exhibition game on. If you played league you can find GSUMMARY.DB from your league's directory. Remember, injury must be "Gone For Game", not "Gone For Period".
Hope we can solve this, happy gaming!
EDIT: I got this too.

HOCKEY.EXE (changes here will affect the whole game, not only to seasons)
address value
112E9E when selecting 5min periods, period time left in seconds (max.255)
112E9F when selecting 5min periods, period time left multiple (01=256s)
112EA0 when selecting 10min periods, period time left in seconds (max.255)
112EA1 when selecting 10min periods, period time left multiple (01=256s)
112EA2 when selecting 20min periods, period time left in seconds (max.255)
112EA3 when selecting 20min periods, period time left multiple (01=256s)
In regular season game, NHL95 uses 112E9E and 112E9F period lenght for overtime
What are these for? Setted time here is 20min if this is time for period in some case.
112EA4 ?, period time left in seconds (max.255)
112EA5 ?, period time left multiple (01=256s)

Has anyone managed to edit NHL95PC graphics with this EA Graphics Editor? I have problems with palettes, they are showing wrong.

There is no any built-in support for network gaming in NHL95PC. So IPX support in Dosbox won't be enough. That means somebody must built that support to game or some kind of program which makes multiplayer gaming via network possible with Dosbox and NHL95PC. I suppose programming gurus can do almost anything if they put their mind and time for it, but as far as I know, nobody is working to solve this "problem"
There is many VNC-software solutions available, which may work. Although I have not heard that anyone has managed to make this kind of combination (Dosbox/DOS + DOS game without network game support) work as multiplayer gaming via VNC.
Anyways, I hope you are right and this is possible! Good luck to find the solution!
-
But if we compare with Gens and SNES versions, they doesn't have network options too...
Only the emulator has the online option...
Dosbox and IPX-protocol are different case than Sega/SNES emulator and Kaillera. It is explained here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=8937&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=nhl95&start=0

Hey everybody,
I just find a way to play with DosBox online games, so we can play NHL95 pc online...
I am quite sure that NHL95 PC does not support network game. Dosbox support IPX, but in that case NHL95 should have network game option for it, which it does not have. Correct me if I am wrong. Have you tried this and managed to play NHL95 PC over network?

JED (Jersey editor) uses HOMEPALS.BIN, AWAYPALS.BIN and CRESTS4.PPV files. At least colors of animations are somewhere in those files... dont know if this helps to locate actual sprites.

Many have noticed that NHL95PC keeps record of some stats that does not appear in season statistics. For example game summary shows number of faceoffs won and body checks, but this information cannot be reviewed after returning to sports central and updating schedule. I figured out that when saving a game, game stores this information to GAME.SAV file in season directory. Hopefully it stores these also to season, but game and NHLinfo just dont show it. I found out following hexadecimal addresses from that file, which are holding some stats:
Selected team
address value
702 shots total
704 power play goals
706 power play times
708 power play shots
70A power play time (max. 255s)
70B power play time multiple (01=256s)
70C short handed times
70E penalty minutes
710 attack zone time (max. 255s)
711 attack zone time multiple (01=256s)
712 goals
714 faceoffs won
716 offensive faceoffs won
718 onetimer pass
71A onetimers
726 body checks
728 passing total
729 passing total multiple (01=256)
72A passing success
72B passing success multiple (01=256)
EAC saves
Other team
address value
7D6 shots total
7D8 power play goals
7DA power play times
7DC power play shots
7DE power play time (max. 255s)
7DF power play time multiple (01=256s)
7E0 short handed times
7E2 penalty minutes
7E4 attack zone time (max. 255s)
7E5 attack zone time multiple (01=256s)
7E6 goals
7E8 faceoffs won
7EA offensive faceoffs won
7EC onetimer pass
7EE onetimers
7FA body checks
7FC passing total
7FD passing total multiple (01=256)
7FE passing success
7FF passing success multiple (01=256)
E9A saves
general
address value
964 period (0= 1st peroid etc.)
966 period time left in seconds (max.255)
967 period time left multiple (01=256s)
9EE minutes on board
9F0 seconds on board
I think GAME.SAV and other files are holding more useful information. Maybe it is possible to make stats extractor to NHL95PC. The game itself and NHLinfo are already showing some of the stats, but there is more and it would be nice to save stats from individual games. I hope someone would try to verify my foundings so far.

Hi willsolo, we are using NHL95 PC-version to simulate games. Gameplay is AI vs AI. Managers make their line changes to the roster and decide who is captain of their team. We are adding +5 to all attributes for captains. We keep record for injuries during game and we have own rules how that affect to next games. For example, if player injured in game, he could not play in 1-8 next games and so on. Players have salary in our league and we have salary cap. Managers can offer better salary for other teams players to get them to their team. Managers can decide if they want to pay that offered salary to player or if they will let that player go to another team. Also managers can make trades. All this salary thing is handled simply by a spreadsheet with macros. We have 8th season now running. You can visit our old forum: http://kurtsa.proboards.com/ to see how we have played on previous seasons. Although all discussion there is in finnish

Good idea! For example I am running manager league with nhl95 (PC-version).

I was meaning that could you export rosters from game for example to text-file? After that edit that text-file and import rosters back to game. But I quess you just edit all players via editor. NHLinfo supports exporting rosters, but not importing. If there is any editor supporting export/import functionality available?
-
Thanks for the new rosters! Nice minor note
What editor do you use for making rosters? Is there export/import functionality?
-
Nope, this didnt work, no change to rink colors
Did you manage to save that rink as GIF-file? If so, could you post that here?
-
You haven't been able to load a palette into NHLinfo, but I have been able to do that. I have some days off work coming up and I'm going to get NHL '95 reinstalled and figure out how to load the palettes. Once I do that, I'll post on here and maybe with our efforts combined we can fully figure out how to mod most of the graphics.
Did you manage to export that rink so colors were ok and it was image in GIF-format? That would be nice if you can solve "palette problem". Lets keep trying to make this really "Hacker's dream"
-
Can you give step by step instructions on what you did in NHLinfo to import the new ice? I had (at one point) been able to load the palette for the rink and save it as a .gif, but I could never figure out how to replace the rink image - it would appear all messed up when I played a game. So to make sure I understand, you were able to properly load the palette to the rink in NHLinfo and display it correctly? And you were able to export the rink and edit it, and then import it back into the game and it worked? Could you PLEASE give me step by step instructions on how to do this? I've been trying desperately to do this for a long time and have had no success.
I did not find way to export rink correctly. Colors were always messed up. What I did was I found my old rink as image in PCX-format. I tried to import that to game and when I converted it to GIF-image it went in game ok. But of course I have done exporting correctly somehow long time ago, because I had that rink as image on my compuer. Another explanation is that I downloaded that rink from somewhere as image, cant remember for sure. But anyhow then somebody else have done it. Exporting, editing and importing back although work for some graphics. For example Scouts report picture.
Instructions for loading rink image to game:
Ok, first I dont take any responsability what happens to your NHL95 installation if you follow these instructions. Maybe new installation of NHL95 for this is a good idea.
Take backup copy from your RINK.QFS file from your NHL95 folder. Maybe idea of taking backup from whole folder is not bad idea, it does not take lot of space and if you accidently alter other files, you can replace those also from backup.
Go in NHLinfo and open graph editing part on it. GFXPAK should be installed to NHLinfo.
Select RINK.QFS, by highlighting it via arrow keys or mouse. After that press enter or double click. there should be showing 2 files "----" and "rink". Highlight rink.
Rink shows now in right side of editor. In my case colors are not showing right:
Now go to pick you rink image. GIF-format does work, I havent checked much others. NHLinfo should handle BMP,GIF,IFF,JPG,PCX,PNG. PCX didnt work in my case, rink were somehow messed up.
Place that image to your NHL95 folder.
Now go to back to editor and press F1. This open another window in NHLinfo. Go and find your rink image. In my case it is named as RINKI.gif. You can see that colors shows right.
Then press enter. NHLinfo asks do you want to use this picture's palette (replace) or trying to match for palette for original picture which is in the game (match). Select replace.
Nhlinfo reports you about replacing. Now if you press F1 and go to see in RINK.QFS, rink colors show still wrong. However you can see that picture has been changed, in this new rink there is little difference in goalie area.
Then you can close NHLinfo and start the game, my new rink shows up there nicely. You can see it really has changed, in original rink goalie area, boards and faceoff spots are different.
I put here that rink I used, if you want to try this and maybe use it base to your own modified rink in future:
This rink is not my work originally (well maybe awful white board is), but I dont really remember did I export it from some mod or was it downloadable as image in somewhere.
I also tried EA Graphics editor for exporting and importing, but I could not still export rink in right colors. But this was nice little software to change your images to 8 bit and load palette files to/from it. Images in NHL95 are mostly if not all in 8-bit. Here is link for downloading: http://forums.nba-live.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=3 There is good help-file included.
Give it try and tell me if you managed to change that rink. At least now we have a "base" picture from where you graphical geniuses can make new rinks to NHL95. I am awful in modyfing graphics, so only modifications I am able to do is cosmetic, like new adds to boards etc. I really hope somebody figures out that problem with palettes in exporting pictures. Then this game would be really hacker's dream as topic says

5 years ago we had a problem here to change graphics in NHL95. Now I manage to change graphics of rink via NHLinfo and GFXPAK. The problem was 5 years ago that I couldnt load palette files. Actually that was just my mistake, I tried to do that "inside" a file in NHLinfo, when palette loading should be done in "directory" part. Hard to explain, but those of you who have used NHLinfo will understand.
Now I manage to load palettes, but it still not change the situation, rink appears in NHLinfo wrong colored. However now I manage to load my old rink to game without any mess. Somehow when I tried to load it in PCX-format which I had saved it, it didnt work. When I saved it to GIF it went to game ok. Here is pictures of normal NHL95 and Ice colored white. I am not good in editing graphics but this only example.
Normal ice:
White ice:
Problem still is that I cannot get all images out from NHL95 with right palette, like rink for example, but now we can at least replace images. I hope this works for all images in game. Some images show in NHLinfo ok, for example scouting report. So that is easy to export, modify and import back. Hope this will help some of you who like to edit graphics to this game. Hope someone who understand better in graphics will try this.

Here's some good news...
I found a stats editor in the "NHL 95 forever" zip that will automatically update player stats based on a text file. It searches by name, and then updates the stats accordingly.
This means that I'll spend some time getting the text files updated (one for each team), and once we're ready, I can update the entire league in less than a minute.
What is the name of this editor?

for PC games, you can use tony's techniques, but use Cheat Engine to do the memory tracing
I've never used it, though... but I think it works in a similar way.
Thanks, I will try that.

Hi Tony, how could I find overtime period length in NHL95 PC-version?
-
Souly, if you are using Windows Vista, you could have UAC on. Here is information about it and how you could set it off. Apply on your own risk

KHL Manager League season 7 starts soon. General idea is trading players and selecting lines, gameplay would be computer vs. computer by NHL95PC. If you are interested to participate, go to KHL forum.

Nice jerseys, thank you very much!
