It's all good....thanks though....I don't mind taking a beating during the season(or even coming last for that matter)...I just wanna play is all....If I manage to have a league for next winter...I'll rank myself accordingly at that time.

philly first the 2 buf in 1st second buf goes up 4-1 phi scores end of period third phi sores 2 early to tie end of period buf has about 7 wrap around chances. ot after stopping lindros on breakaway he gets one timer and puts it away

1st 2 goals by mogilny 2nd 1 phi mogilny and lafontaine 3rd long 5 on 3 2 phi goals

FUHR was terrible brindamour was a machine d was outta position the entire game
I coudl do nothing right this game teh Ai was definately not helping at all, missing breakaway passes they get all season
The series basically was full of great defense and great manual goaltending which owned me. I am pretty sure i out chanced him fairly wel, but he handled it well. If I didn't blow the game 4 then I would have probably won.
I really think this guy could be going the distance.
Great series PaulCoffeySon and I look forward to revenge and to next season.

hey guys,
just wanted to give you a little update...
been changing the program around some...
It will include an enter game score tab that will allow you to pick the away(left side) and home(right side) team and enter the score... its basically the same as before but now you wont have to click the HomeGame button it will decide based on which side the team is on
it will then save the game score for each team, and auto update the record, home and away record, GF, GA for team
there is a team stats tab - when you select a team it will display the up to date team stats
there is a clear stats tab - you can now choose to reset 1 team orALL teams
there will be (havent started yet) a conference standings tab and a division standings tab...
ill try to get some screenshots up tonight after i get off of work to show you what it will look like...
but if there is anything else ideas are always appreciated and welcome...
i was thinking of also:
- Having the program auto generate webpages for each team, standings, and a game score log (one for each team, and one for the whole league).
- the option of choosing between the 1994 teams, and the 2007 teams (so depending on the league you can have updated logos and name banners)
- Playoff Tree

I agree with all of this except your last point. Just because you're a good player means you can't use a team you like? That's not really fair either. Weighted lottery is good though.
The one thing I think is that the champion be allowed to pick FIRST no matter what. Sure, it's a little unfair... but they won the whole thing, thereby earning it. It gives the champion some sort of reward other then bragging rights.
Did JotaC and Kgman really need to have a better team for this season? So far, they've proven that they didn't. They earned the right to be called 'champion' of their respective leagues, I don't think the champion earns the right to pick first for next season. A weighted lottery system makes sense giving all coaches that played in the leagues a chance for number one pick. And all new coaches coming in the league should be put at the bottom of the selection list regardless(paying your dues).

'NHL Stanley Cup' for snes was by far the worst game I ever played. Nothing like dumping it in from the red line and scoring every time.
I still remember going to the video game store one day and looking at the 'previously played section'....there was about 30 games there at that particualr time...id say half of them were 'nhl stanley cup'.

I need to build this story starting from the first hockey video game I ever played which I believe was simply called 'ice hockey' for nintendo..where you could use the 6 major nations(its still one of my fav hockey games). I tried 'blades of steel' but i found that game to suck. then ea sports came out with nhl hockey for genesis. I owned a snes so id go over to my buddies place to play on his genesis. Then snes came out with nhl'93...which was a fun game...but it was the goalie control, defense control and one timers that nhl94 came out with making it the best hockey game ive ever played. I'd had have tournaments every week with as many as 20 guys. I used to think I was awesome at this game until I played guys on this site(like rudy, 94kid)...those guys destroyed me.
I'll end by saying that 'NHL stanley cup' was the worst hockey game ever created.(in fact...i think ill start a new thread)

I'm wondering if it is possible(and not too much trouble) to create a version with a 'save as' option. I'm running a winter league and I would love to use your stat tracker so I can have a separate tracker for each team.

1 Idea I had for next season is league night.
Everyone in say SNES A should agree on a day & time for league night.
So say Monday 7-10 or something
That way guys that need to catchup or anyone that's having trouble finding games can just log on Monday & probably find people to play.

I've sent out an email about the league..but most of the info is on the site anyways. I'll use the power rankings after the second round is complete to determin a draft order. I was gonna wait until after the third round...but i'd like to assign teams sooner so things can get rolling.
once again thank you for your team preference lists and i will still confirm your choice with you before it is posted on the site.

I picked 50 games for a 20 team league. you play your own division 5 times each for 20 games(creates a great rivalry)...and play every other team in the league twice for the remaining 30 games.

Ya i jsut don't see how Buffalo could be below anaheim based on this year and last year. they are number one for a reason. Now if we were talking about it now, I might change my mind. Buffalos division is probably the best in the league, with anaheims a close second (but they do have 2 incredibly weak team where in the northeast ottawa is weak?????along with boston)
I think the northwest division is by far the toughest. minnesota is near the top this year...that division have three of the best goaliesin the league (fernandez, kirpusoff, luongo)...and edmonton and colorado are never easy games......
EDIT*.....I'm wondering if there should there be a sub forum set up somewhere for 'NHL' discussions or hockey in general?

One question which I don't know the answer to is if FFs are included in the regular season win totals? If that's the case, teams that collected a lot of FF wins will be higher than we would otherwise predict, and teams like yours that don't have any FF wins will therefore have to be lower. I'm a proponent of more or less keeping the FF system in place in regards to standings and playoff qualification, but for coach ratings, since the goal is slightly different, it might make more sense to eliminate "unplayed games" from the equations altogether. halifax, how do you handle unplayed games?
FF's are incorporated into the power rankings...which to me isn't right but it would've been a lot of work to go through and figure out percentages etc....so for simplicity sake I used their team record to base it on.
I'll provide an example later on of how i would handle FF's in a more complex system.(just dont have time at the moment)

Meh, its not really a big deal. I just wouldn't go by the list to determine how good a player IS, due to the fact that the rankings are based on how good a player WAS. Maybe the list should be changed from "power rankings" to "overall lifetime rankings"...
A player could be the best in A league, and still be at the bottom of the list if they've ever had one really bad season. That would make it inaccurate, would it not? Top player in the league ranked anything but #1 would be misleading.
I'm just saying the system needs some tweaking. I do appreciate the hard work being put into it.
Thanks BSdaemon..I'm glad you appreciate the work....and as for a name change...perhaps 'coaches rankings' may best fit...
I'm still unsure though on how a player could be the best player in the league and be at the bottom of the list? could you provide an theoretical example?

I think in an ideal situation...I would simply pick a number of games and use that number for your power rankings(say the number of points you got in your last 80 regular season games multplied by the percentage of whatever league(s) you were in...)...and then adjust your score accordingly...
say an 'A' player's last 40 regular season games at 30%of total points....and the previous 40 games before that at 10% of total points....and of course if that coach decides to skip a season(either fall or spring) or simply not come back...it would still count as points per 40 games...and with no points their score would deteriorate as it should.
of course this would take a lot of time to do by myself or anyone for that matter. If someone wanted to provide me with that info of everyone's record from the time they joined..then i'd certainly do the calculations...volunteers? (crickets chirping)
I'll certainly spend some more time thinking about a format that works best for replacement coaches and coaches with multiple teams. I think for the time being I'll leave as is (taking the average score of coaches that have two teams)...
BSDaemon, you can always look at the positives....it means you are more likely to pick higher in the draft for the winter league

I like that idea. Assign the draft order then have each player post their team pick.
this is fine by me...ill use the current lists to determine team picks and have that coach confirm it before i post it. for those that haven't sent me a list..ill simply ask them for theirs at the time of their pick.
I've also sent out an email addressing the league....check your junk mail for it.

yes you can change your list....however...If you don't care what team you get, I can simply use your pick and give you the best ranked team available at the time of your pick. let me know what you would like to do.
