  2. What is the promotion decision process from B to A. Obviously based on the commitment issues in SNES its going to be wierd, but how many people are going to be promoted demoted and what are the criteria???

not sure pimp....maybe the admins will post that info sometime during or after the playoffs are done.(or they may simply wait until the spring to figure it out)

    QUOTE(Pittsburgh Penguins SNES B @ Nov 8 2006, 10:38 PM)

The Pens are in the Second Round! They have eliminated the Nordique in 5 games. We lost the first one 5-2 ans we won all the 4 other games.

    6-5 OT 2-1 (OT) 3-2 3-2

Really happy to have won these series.

What a big challenge from the Quebec Nordiques.

    Go Pittsburgh Go!

    congrats man!

  4. Love the effort put into these rankings (in fact, love all the effort all of you put into this league and forum, don't know where you guys find the time but none of you get the credit you deserve...)

I'm a newbie to the league, and currently a SNES 'B' leaguer.

You say the B league is half as good but here's the problem with that assumption. No matter how good someone is, in their first year they have no choice but to be in the B league. At least that's what I was told.

Now I'm not saying I'm the best, far from it. But if skill is not a requirement for placing teams in the A and B leagues and seniority plays a part, you can't make assumptions about the B leaguers skills until they have played at least one full season.

I pretty much can guarantee that if you took 1 random person from the A league and 1 from the B legue and they faced off, either could win. I definitely believe in having diff. leagues based on skill when the demand to join isso high, but in the future, why not use a relegation system (kind of like soccer) and move A guys down and B guys up based on performance. That way A leagueres may be able to actually claim their the better league! Until then, I know which A leaguers are better players but REFUSE to accept the A league as a better league based on skill! Although you guys certainly have a better games played ratio!!!

Good luck to the 'A' leaguers and whoever wins should play te B league champion, just for kicks...

ps - my good friend is an A leaguer and he's rated like 8 times better than me and that's what is really bothering me since I can kick his butt!

skipper you definately raise some great points...every new player will pay their dues first in the 'B" league when they first sign up...but I think ultimately, you can play(win) your way on to the list...which is the point of it....this list will definately need time to sort itself out...but in the meantime have some fun with it:)

  5. I think that if my ranking is higher than it would be if you incorporated my (A) league results, you should probably do my (A) league numbers - or at the very least, some sort of blend of my (A) and (B ) league figures. Pretending that my (A) record doesn't exist is something I only do when trying to pick up chicks.

good point addison...However, I didn't think that it would be fair to include multiple teams into your ranking(as it is giving you more points from playing more games)...so I picked your team that finished highest of the two.

  6. Wrong.

Sorry if you feel that way but I think most would agree that the 'B' is the weaker league(as it should be). Now I will agree there are some new players that play in the 'B' that joined midseason and after the playoffs we'll know which ones deserve to be in the 'A'. I think this system will help reflect that as it has already..there are a few 'B' league players on the list.

  7. This series started out close... 1-1 after the first period. Actually, the first game was the closest of all of them, mainly because he was having a lot of luck with his crease cut scoring, which was shut down for the last 3 games.

I think 90% of my goals were scored because CHI players were in good position to snag loose pucks, and did an excellent job of cycling around the Vancouver net to get open for a pass. I couldn't help but LOL after every one of his goals in the last 3 games... not out of rudeness, but simply because the series was completely one sided... so it was like throwing a toothpick at a dragon... not to mention many of his goals were crease cuts (in gm 1, shut down after that) or goals like... ramming the puck into the net without even trying to deke.

He's a good player... perhaps just using a shitty team? I don't know. If he worked on a little more then the crease-cut (since it was quickly picked up on and thwarted), he'd definitely be a contender.

Hats off to you, Vancouver. You played well, considering the uneven match up... I hope to see you next season!!

    Final Scores:

    GM1: 6-3 CHI

    GM2: 11-4 CHI

    GM3: 5-1 CHI

    GM4: 8-3 CHI

PS. Hit me up for exhibition games any time man!

    congrats on the win!

  8. WHO PLAYS WHO IN THE SECOND ROUND CAN SOMEONE MAKE A CHART OR SOMETHING

ITS WEIRD IN REAL LIFE I THINK THE WINNER OF GAME 8 AND 1 PLAY THE WINNER OF GAME 4 5

BUT I DONT KNOW HWO ITS WORKING OUT AND I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN IN THE NEXT ROUND

i'm pretty sure you play the highest remaining seed in your conference.

  9. Welcome to Power Rankings,

There had been a request made in another forum asking for a Power rankings system to have a list of the top players for NHL 94. So I thought I’d take the time to assemble a Top 20 Power rankings list for both SNES and GENS. Here’s a break down of how Power ranking points were achieved.

An 80 Points system for the regular season/playoffs and previous regular season/playoffs.

For instance. You would have 80 points for a perfect regular season (40-0) and 80 points for a playoff championship (5points for each win(16) for a total of 80 points)

Then I based importance of each season

    For an ‘A’ player…

Current playoff season (40% of your points)

Current Regular Season (30% of your points)

Previous playoff season (20% of your points)

Previous regular Season (10% of your points)

    Total(100%) all points are added

For a player in the ‘B’ league I gave a value of half of that because I believe the ‘B’ league is half as good as the ‘A’(no doubt this will change over time..but for now I think this works)

    For a ‘B’ player

Current playoff season (20% of your points)

Current Regular season (15% of your points)

Previous playoff Season (10% of your points)

Previous regular Season (5% of your points)

    Total(50%) all points are added

NOTE: last season’s spring league did not have an A and B league…thus I recorded it as if it was an ‘A” league.

Still confused?…let me provide a couple of examples.

(EXAMPLE A) Let’s take kgman to start.

1.Last regular season in the GENS spring league Kgman had 38 points(x10%) for 3.8 power rankings points

2.Last playoffs season Kgman won the title…so that’s 16 wins, 5 points per win for 80 points(X20%) for 16 power rankings points

3.this regular season kgman had 54 points(x30%) for 16.20 power rankings points

4.this playoffs (not registered yet) 0 wins (x40%) for 0 power rankings points

    TOTAL (3.8 + 16.0 + 16.2 + 0) = 36 power ranking points

    (EXAMPLE B )

Will use Evan for this one

    1. Last regular season in the GENS spring league Evan had 27 points(x10%) for 2.7 power rankings points

    2. In last season’s playoffs Evan recorded 0 wins and thus 0 power rankings points

    3. This regular season Evan is in the ‘B’ league and recorded 48points(x15%) for 7.2 power rankings points

    4. this playoffs(not registered yet) 0 wins(x40%) for 0 power rankings points

    TOTAL (2.7 + 0 + 7.2 + 0) = 9.9 power rankings points

Some things to keep in mind….

-this is not accurate by any means cause there are a lot of factors for instance some players took over teams in mid season and I used the team’s stats as that coaches record for simplicity sake…so this will affect some coaches.

-the current playoffs are not yet factored into this system but soon will be.

-I did all the calculations so if I’ve made an error with your score please advise and I’ll fix it

-have fun with this since that’s what it is meant for.

But I do feel this system (over time) can give fairly accurate rankings for the best players in the game.

    What are your thoughts?

  10. Ahola, I think my message might have been deleted with one of the threads yesterday before you got to read it, but I wanted to say that I do apologize for coming down on your grammar. I didn't realize at first that you were from the other side of the pond. I know how it can be frustrating to communicate in a language that's not your native one. I experienced the same thing when I studied overseas. So, hey man, I hope there's no hard feelings.

I don't mind the trash talking with you but I really don't want to upset the community. And if the last thing I want to do is cause more work for the admins. Evan assembled an amazing site and I'm happy to be part of it.

Ahola, fleury...good job guys on getting this resolved. I can't speak for everyone but you're public apologies will gain you more respect in the long run.

  11. 4)Chi vs 5)Stl- prob the most watched series in the first round, energymike has established himself as an elite player this season and looks to keep proving himself with a rd 1 upset against the def champ. despite finishing 5th and a minus 8 in goal dif this guy proved himself in the playoffs last season and should not be taken lightly....because of lack of icetime im gonna call this one 4-3 Chi

Thanks for the tip..I just called my bookie and made the switch to chicago.

  12. Hats off to Vocally Caged for sweeping Cash Money in the first round of the Gens A playoffs. As Ron Barr would say, "Cash Money was off his game." Good luck the rest of the way buddy.

you've set an example of sportsmanship for everyone else. well spoken...and here's hoping the rest will follow your lead.

  13. Playoffs are now posted for both SNES A and B. Feel free to e-mail your opponent and get started on the first round. Evan will be e-mailing everyone about the playoffs as well as the deadline (probably November 15th) for first round games.

Also, in a number of cases the Admins adjusted playoff seeding to be different than the standings show. This is because certain teams had a lot of unplayed games and were possibly placed lower to give the guys who worked hard to play their games more credit than the current standings gave them.

Now I'm going to say this preemptively before people start to comment...If you have a problem with this seeding, I understand that because it's not a perfect system. We feel we made good choices based on what we had to work with. Feel free to constructively criticize and discuss at will as that is what this forum is meant for.

HOWEVER, what we WILL NOT tolerate any further is the open bashing and negative tone that has occurred in many of the preceding posts regarding this matter. This is not something that we do for a full-time job, this is something we have put together for the enjoyment of all, in our FREE time. We are learning from mistakes made and evolving the site and systems in place to improve this league to be even more fun than it already is, (and at least for me, despite losing on a frequent basis, NHL94 is pretty damn fun) Many of you appreciate our hard work, and we are happy that you do.

Others have voiced displeasure on one or many occasions. As I said before, channel your displeasure into a brainstorming thread of what can be done to improve the league. If you have insights, share them with us. BUT MAKE SURE you leave out the snarky comments when you do so. If you have a negatively worded post, it's not going to be taken as seriously as it would otherwise have been. If you want to rant about how unfair this system is, you are NOT HELPING and you have a choice to make about whether you want to be a part of this community or not. Realize that there are better ways to effect change than to rail on us for putting together a crappy league.

Whether you are happy or discontent with the league as it stands today, we hope you decide to contribute to our efforts to improve the community and the league. We appreciate, and will need your assistance even moreso as this league grows.

    Thanks for listening.

Very well said...this should be on the front page of both sites so that everyone reads it...especially new members coming in

  14. I know there's a few of us out there who are on the outside looking in for the play-offs either because we (A)signed up too late to get a team or (B)missed the playoffs altogether. I know you guys(admins) have run spring and fall leagues and it will be another 4 months or so before the next one starts. Is there any chance to have a winter league set up for those of us that are itching to get some 'official' games in and for those others who continue to enjoy playing year round?

  15. I won't say you're crazy, but in my opinion editing lines in response to injuries and PPs is well within the bounds of fair play. If a guy is just trying to ensure that a particular player stays on or off the ice, editing the line should be a pretty quick process.

I'll agree here...it seems certainly legit. I think anyone should be allowed to replace their player after an injury so that you dont get joe blow out there. However for PP time(because this can happen several times a game) it might become annoying for a lot of people cause everyone will start doing this that hasnt already....perhaps for next time, all injuries can be changed no matter what but for PP/PK they can only make one change per game by using their timeout.

As long as these changes are done during a stoppage..it's all good.
