  1. You have done an unbelievable magnificent job!

You are hacking NHL'94, yet you have fighting activated? I didn't think that was possible? Amazing!

    I LOVE:

The CIRCLES around the activated players, instead of the STAR

The MUSIC is the BEST I've ever heard on a '94 hack

The look of the PLAYERS, nice vibrant colors, and smoother cartoon (less pixelated) look

    I HATE:

The ICE COLOR. Can't you use a nice BLUE and not make it so dark? It really hurts my eyes!!

The GRAPHICS FONTS that get lighter in shade as you go downward. It is SO HARD on my eyes to read!!!

PLEASE Keep up the GREAT WORK!

IF only you had the source code, you could do miracles with this game.

  2. That's a great idea, but I don't think it can be done. I think the way hacking # of skaters on ice works is that it applies all the time, not just OT.

Then is it at all possible, to hack the Main Menu and add "O.T. 3 on 3" ?

Just like when I play, if a game is tied after O.T., I go to the Main Menu and choose "Shootout".

  3. Great ROM!

    I have 2 questions:

    1) What happened to the faceoff music assignments? I just get Baseball type songs, instead of the originally assigned tunes.(For example, no Black Hawks theme when they play at home, no Disney song for the Ducks at home, etc.)

    2) Is there a new NHL penalty, I don't know about, called INJURIES?

  4. I know Mr. Lesser is retired, and probably is busy doing other things;

but I was thinking if Mr. Lesser is willing, we could give him a Section in this forum, devoted to comments and asking him specific information, that could help, in modifying his great game.

The Section should be strictly monitored by the moderator, to keep out negative and trolling comments. After all, without his fantastic creation, this forum would not exist, so he deserves our greatest respect.

  5. I think I have an idea, that will make things even and easy for a one day tournament(like a rod hockey tournament), and not require any rom updating(other than making sure Home ice advantage, and hot/cold are taken out).

Take any rom(like Skip's great 2015), and for a tournament, have each contestant play as the SAME team as their opponent(one is Home and one is Visitor).

The only stats needed, are the numbe of wins, loses, Ties(if no OT or shootouts used), and if desired, GF, and GA.

It doesn't matter which team is chosen,. because both players will always be playing the identical team as their current opponent.

After each game, players just need to SWAP controllers(which is like players changing the side they play on a rod hockey table).

It could be a double round-robin, where each player plays every other player, once as HOME, and once as AWAY.

You can use the same team for the entire tournament, or cycle through different teams.

Set up a bunch of PCs, pizzas and drinks = awesome tournament. LOL

  6. You probably can't release the source code, for legal reasons.

But can you, possibly, help the great hackers here, to learn how to modify things like:

modify music, so custom tunes can be added?

and fix things, like the offside one-timer bug (where the offside skater can score on a one timer)?

Is there an easy or any way, to convert a modified .bin for the cartridge version, into an .iso for Sega CD version?

Can you possibly provide us with an Editor program?

The game is a masterpiece. I can only imagine all the time and preparation it took to create.

    THANK YOU!

  7. Oh yeah, forgot about Smozrom. I remember using it now.

Yes, I always attempt to do things myself first and read all the "how to" tutorials I can find. I just don't have the knack that many others do, and can get easily frustrated.

Thanks for offering to help me with the logos.

I also like and play with penalties on, including offsides on.

(Yes, thank God for programs like EARE, NOSE, and Smozrom, and I've used them all.)

I find editing hex to be very aggravating. If there were a master chart of offset locations, that would help quite a bit.

You're absolutely right. Vintage original 6 didn't use helmits. LOL

BTW, your hiilarious avatar motivated me to add mine.

  8. Just played it. and WOW, I LOVE your table hockey images at game startup!

Original 6 is a great idea.

1 minute penalties are also good, since Periods are only 5 minutes.

    Wierd bug:

I played Chicago vs New York at New York, and the Hawks home ice and goal music played.

    Suggestions:

Add Y button Goalie Control (simple patch to apply)

Add stick tape and helmit patch, without trapezoid patch. You have to track down an older patch to do this, but will be worth it, to preserve the vintage original 6 rink look.

  9. GREAT to see someone is attempting a ROM with the same concept I had a few years ago.

I called my Rom, :"Even Steven", but for some reason the posts are no longer here.

Too bad, because I can't remember all the steps that were involved in getting rid of hot/cold streaks, etc.

    http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/topic/15849-where-are-my-even-steven-roms/?hl=%2Beven+%2Bsteven

I recently attempted an All Star rom to be like "Even Steven", but got ZERO help with the logos.

    http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/topic/16484-all-star-rom-with-new-nhl-conference-logos/

I wanted to have just 2 teams (just like in table hockey), with one red and one blue, like the conference logos.

I didn't even think of Penalties off to help eliminate the "luck" factor, but I would prefer some penalties, so you can have power plays, and penalty shots. I would suggest to definitely leave Interference calls enabled.

GREAT JOB! and you're definitely on the right track. Hopefully, some day we will have a rom that is perfectly even in every way for each participant, so it can be used in tournaments, with round robin, and switching teams and home/away so there will be no crying about, one side or team having an advantage.

  10. I converted the iso file to a bin file with this program :http://www.anyburn.com/download.htm

But NOSE don't open the rom...

Converting the iso to bin will not be a usable file, and it will also be very large compared to a bin.

Ideally you want to take an updated ROM bin and somehow, convert it to a compatible Sega CD iso, that will open in an emulator.

If you remember, we looked into this a few weeks ago in another post, and simply converting it, did not work.

Perhaps, someone could ask Mark Lesser how this could be done, or even if it's possible, or just a waste of time?

  11. Oh God, not that annoying Blackhawks song. Please, no. I can't understand why so many people like that song. I think it's a terrible goal song. The Rangers goal song is 1000x better. Put that in, if anything.

LOL, I agree that the song does suck, but it's what they use. I would prefer to replace it with something like "Get Ready" by Rare Earth.

  12. Sure it's possible.

    Go here:

    http://nhl94.com/html/editing/edit_iso.php

The problem is that there is no program like NOSE for the .iso, which would make things faster and easier.

And unfortunately, AFAIK, there is no .bin to .iso convertor.

I wish the hacking gurus here could give us an updated .iso

I really like the sound quality of the CD over the ROM, plus it would be really cool to put in custom music, like the new song the Blackhawks use, when a goal is scored.

  13. I am very proud to say I got the autograph of NHL94's greatest player, JR, when he was with the Hawks. I stupidly first got the autograph of a 4th line player, Shantz, who had such a gigantic signature on the plastic puck, that very little room was left for JR. So JR's autograph is much smaller than I would have liked. JR, commented "Shantzee didn't leave me any room". lol

  14. I had put this on my old laptop a couple of years ago. I didn't have the patience to learn how to pass accurately, and would shoot and deke like a maniac, which sometimes resulted in scoring, if I had a quality player.

I ended up deinstalling it, as I just found it too frustrating and noob-unfriendly.

Too bad, because I really enjoyed the customization, especially the music.

  15. Great project.
Perhaps you can entice EA to release the source code for NHL94 for the Genesis?
I'm sure the brilliant hackers here, can actually fix problems in the game(like the offside one timer goal), and make complete customization possible(such as adding a 4 on 4 overtime period, followed by Shootout). Wishful thinking? probably, but life is too short, and why not go for something that will make so many people happy?

As far as a prize, I think this would be great:

    http://www.stoneagegamer.com/everdrive-md-deluxe.html

It would allow custom ROMS to be played on orginal Genesis hardware.

  16. Well I guess we tried huh? Some people said that Sonic Megamix works like that but is the only game to do so.

As for the iso, I'm not sure of a way to post it easily because the forums doesn't support uploads of .iso files.

Yes, we gave it a try, and it appears that it is not possible to do. I appreciate your help and time.

I guess the only way to do it, is to know where the corresponding offsets in the .iso file are to the .bin file, so data can be copied and pasted from .bin to .iso.

  17. I don't have a google account and am not interested in opening one.

Is there any other way you can post the .iso?

    How big is it?

    Thanks.

Also this may have just been a waste of time, since I was searching and found this, on this page:

so basically…..you just cant copy the files of a rom (lets say,
sonic the hedgehog) to a CD? and be able to run it on the real SEGA CD
    hardware

    That’s correct — you cannot do that…
