  1. I think we need to pick teams different.

Personally I love competition & would rather see the weak players

    draw teams 1st.

No Rudy with Det, Caper with Pitts, etc....

I'm not complaining I just want to give the weaker players a chance

I'll even take the last pick

This would mean I'd get the first pick, having not played in any of the leagues - everyone else here has. Anyone who has played me knows I am significantly weaker.

  2. Game 7 in OT is more exciting than a sweep. Sweeps are nice in that you have some time to scout other teams before the next round, but the series (or better yet the Stanley Cup) coming right down to sudden death is amazingly exciting. I've never seen an overtime game 7 in real life, but I bet it's really tense, both teams trying as hard as possible to slip up.

Game 7 OT is also the sign of a good series, both teams fighting hard to win. The best series would probably be all 1-0 games decided in multiple overtimes, with game seven going to three, for or maybe even five. It might feel more fulfilling as well, because you know you earned the series instead of just rolling over an easy opponent or winning in forfeit.

  3. setar..we'll have a draft system in place...see top post for details...thanks for joining!

94kid and rudy..ive signed you guys up as well..thanks

    I know, I was joking.

I just hope I get first pick, I don't think I'll do any good with a team other than Chicago.

  4. Pretty neat. What are you using to record these?

The audio is a problem, though -- the game sound really drowns out the commentary. Maybe you could record the commentary separately later (just into a .wav file) and then mix them in VirtualDub (an AVI editor).

Camtasia Studio to record, VirtualDub to compress.

I've been looking for something in Gens to turn down the sound, but no go so far...might just have to disable it entirely. I'm trying to speak over it though, I raise my voice a bit in game four when the game sounds come on.

  5. I don't know if I have a spot in A League next season or not, but if for some reason I do and AngryJay doesn't, I would feel obligated to turn the spot over to him. He is much more deserving than I am, as his winning record with a mediocre team proves.

Plus he owns me lately in heads up play. Here is a link to a very short highlight reel of our last match - complete with commentary, which seems to be all the rage these days. He's the blue team, I'm the red team:

Congratulations to the champions! Here's hopes for another good season for Marc, Cash Money and hopes for a three-peat for JotaC!

  8. I'm actually allowing Gens and SNES players to play, and the "home" advantage will also be a platform one. Not like cross-platform is really hard, if you find out what does what you can map the shoot button on Gens to the one you use normally, the only difference will likely be graphics and sound.

  9. Next season we're drafting teams in reverse standings order, aren't we? It'll balance out over a couple seasons, and you'll probably come out on top by being good with bad teams. Washington and SJ are hardly 'average' teams :D

Maybe we can make the team picking order a little random, like the entry draft for the NHL, so people get some variety, season after season. Teams up from B get the best chances to get an early pick. The worse your regular season record, you earlier you pick. To discourage throwing games during the season, your playoff performance would also affect your team draft position.

Pittsburgh isn't that tough if you check them a lot. I didn't make the playoffs and I had a 2-2 record against kgboy (total goals, 15-14 for kgboy), and when I won the two games, I was challenging for a playoff spot, so you can't say he wasn't trying. I wouldn't even say Pittsburgh is one of the top 5 teams. You can bully them, unlike teams like Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Montreal, Calgary, and even Quebec...

The only team I would consider banning is Chicago, since they have the best player and the best goalie (arguably). But.. why not let someone who finished poorly the last season have a fun season : ). Just say that Chicago has to be picked in the top 5 or not at all.

San Jose are underrated. The AI works wonders with them. However, the worst team IS Ottawa, and the champion from last year should be stuck with Ottawa if we do draft.

If we don't, I'm going to be making sure I'm one of the first to register so I get Chicago. Unlike most, I practice with them sometimes and can actually use the TEAM. Chicago are good for anyone, but if you can use them as a team, everyone else is screwed. Except for LA, because I can't seem to beat them.

  10. I'll put up my predictions for round one here. Note that for the records I omitted Ties and DNPs if they had 0 in both, and just DNPs if they had no DNPs.

    My record so far: 4-0
