I got like a 22nd pick my first GDL, now I want my earlier pick (I think 12th) I feel I've earned. Keep it the same as always is what I say, snake, and based on the same formula as before. I feel very strongly about it too. Been thinking about my 1st pick for a year now.
I do understand the newcomer's viewpoint on it because that was me not too long ago and at that time I didn't like the way the draft was set up with me getting such a late pick. Now I'm on the other side of things, paid my dues and want the earlier pick I deserve. You can call me a baby, a weirdo, an a**hole or whatever, but it's a deal-breaker for me so I'm out if the draft order/process changes.

Some of the mid-tier guys with good teams are just as tough to play against as top level guys with lower teams or lower ranked guys with great teams. So in the end the challenge and difficulty is still present in the league regardless of who is pressing the buttons. It's not easy scoring with Bob Carpenter.
As for Plab, I don't see how anyone can knock his GDL 11 title, that's crazy and I didn't even know there were people out there trying to diminish it.

Oh nice, I smell free wins!I'll be around later tonight and then tomorrow/this weekend to get games in.
I think these will be the first games that I've ever used Hartford.

Wash and STL are about even, you are playing to your teams' strengths and I wasn't playing up to my potential. I can't blame it on my team. You outplayed me plain and simple. If I don't effectively exploit those sluggish STL D-men then I don't deserve to win. I just wished Bondra knew beforehand it was not my net he was supposed to crash in OT.Bah, that's only because you took WSH! And it is a bit inflated because of not all top coaches participating. The team draft system vs skill is great but I can see why some might not like it and skipped it due that but that's their loss. =)
Let's make spring classic 2015 even bigger. We have 38 coaches participating in Gens classic alone, that's huge!
I disliked the way the draft was crafted initially, but it makes sense and now I'm loving the challenge of having to play really hard and smart every game.

You all better watch out for Depeche Mode, he's got STL looking like a powerhouse this season.

Lood Twig, back in the competitive mix, thanks for stepping up. Hartford is fun and can be a dangerous team.

It's also a good idea in certain instances for credibility's sake (like playoffs, or if u just don't trust your opponent) to pause the game & take a screen shot (on the graphic drop-down menu, or press shift+backspace). Attach it in an AIM message to your opponent.

Thanks for all you do for us man!

It's just like any other check, but with weights reversed. With a regular C-check in classic, a light guy will consistently knock down someone heavier when the difference in weight between them is 2 or more. The bigger the difference, the greater the check success rate.
With CB, it's flipped, such that success will be when the heavier guy knocks down the lighter guy.
does there still have to be a 2 or more weight difference, or can a 7 knock down a 6, 9 knock down an 8 etc?

Plabax I remember he spammed me everyday 24/7 for exhi games so I banned him on Aim.
I wonder how many ppl have done the same to me b/c I "exi-spam" too.

With the recent knowledge of the CB check -- check your opponent with C, then immediately press B to switch to another player. The CPU makes the check, nullifying the weight bug. -- most of these lineups and analysis need to be revisited. Particularly on the defense, where heavy d-men can be effective checkers with this method. They are not as big of a liability, especially if you primarily use your defensemen for defense.
On that same note, some of these lightweight subs are no longer surefire options to sub in or carry the puck. If you have a bugger out there (Kovalenko instead of Kamensky, Drake instead of Fedorov, LeBeau instead of Muller, etc), they can be CB checked down by just about everyone, particularly those 6-8 weight average d-men and F.
Opponent matchups become even more vital. If someone is coming at you with lightweight buggers, throw in a heavy guy to CB check them. If they are heavy, throw in a bugger, etc.
The best lineups for Classic (and likely GDL) are ones that have a mix of light/heavy to increase your defensive checking options (C or CB).
It's important to understand this, as if you are strictly going with weight, you may be hurting yourself.
(somewhere Plabax is doing cartwheels of joy)
What's great about the CB check, as you mentioned is that you don't have to fear those super agile/lightweight/stickhandlers as much when they are used to carry it on the rush/coming at you. When you grow frustrated that C-check doesn't knock down Yzerman and B-check just makes Yzerman balance on 1 leg and still have the puck, you'll realize the need and importance of such a deadly manuever that is the CB check......You can crush someone like Yzerman with a heavy dude such as Zalapski.
As more people learn it, they'll also learn that they themselves will have to move the puck more frequently and faster (if their opponent uses CB check often). Nobody is a "safe bet" to carry it unscathed anymore. And you'll have to know the weights of your opponent's skaters (as well as your own guys).
But be mindful, because this play (CB) can backfire and have no effect in certain instances/matchups due to weights of both skaters involved in an attempt. Raph or Plab, care to elaborate why on this part of it for everyone?

I agree that those pics are amazing. And I'd also love to see him, TK, & AJ back in the mix. Doesn't seem like it will ever happen though. Maybe s**t talking is the only hope to entice them back. Who knows, TK would probably be just an average player now, with all those years off.
Yes Raph, pass-shot was around when he was around, but from what I've seen, the capacity & proficiency of use that it is these days is much greater.

BEFORE THE ERA OF GLITCHERS AND SNORKS
Valid point!

Carse was a beast -- his style wasn't as flashy as others, and that in itself is impressive considering how much he won. At one point about 3-4 years ago, it seems every league was between him and Freydey (and swos). They were clearly better than everyone else for quite some time.
Not impressed? I don't think anyone has quite a resume like this:
Blitz
Season 2 - Champ
Season 3 - Loss to Frey (champ)
Season 4 - Champ
Season 5 - Loss to Frey
Season 6 - Loss to Frey (champ)
Season 7 - Loss to Frey (champ)
GDL
7 - Champ
8 - Loss to Freydey (champ)
9 - Loss to TomKabs (champ)
10 - Loss to Plabax
Classic
S'10 - Champ (VAN)
F'10 - Champ (CGY)
S'11 - Champ (BUF)
F'11 - Loss to Frey (CGY)
S'12 - Champ (CGY)
F'12 - Champ (VAN)
S'13 - Loss to Frey
Again, different times, but he's definitely one of the best ever.
I'm fine with the "one of" descriptor. And the track record is stellar with 8 "cups" under his belt, but including losses in there serves no purpose to me other than to fluff up the resume. However, in each of those classic wins, his team contains at least one top 10 player and often couple top 20 guys also, and in two of them he had a top 5 team. Keep in mind though, with the new classic format (if it stays that way), any "cup" captured by a high tier A level coach will be an enormous accomplishment given that they will be using the bottom of the barrel teams. So, his record of classic wins will likely never be beaten because of that. I am actually in favor of the way it will be this year (for the draft), it will make things more balanced and challenging. But one can't ignore the fact that anyone's dream of building a classic championship resume (like his) is drastically reduced because of the new format.
I wasn't around to comment on who the competition was or how deep the league was in those GDL and Blitz leagues. I do recall hearing about him majorly rip off people in the draft process, and having a stacked team. My case was more about for how difficult it is to play against someone who isn't a one-trick pony, and to me that is what makes a better player. I don't judge talent by simply wins or stats, I take into account other factors. Plabax winning GDL with mostly fat guys is very impressive to me, as is Swos' run last GDL with Broten, Modano and NeiwenDIKE. Ice's goalie control is legendary at times. Frey makes some super quick and inventive plays I don't see others pulling off. TK could beat you in a myriad of ways and was rediculously good down low with the puck. To me, your (Raph) play with Vancouver is light years better than Carse's. You swarm non-stop and pass with such frequency and precision with that team, taking it to a completely new level, and you score with all 3 forwards consistently. With Carse, he takes it with Bure (insert any other top 10 forward) the entire game, scores almost all his goals with Bure. You know exactly what he's going to do. Anyone can watch videos of it if they want evidence. I'll never be wowed with that type of player, regardless of how many wins he racks up.
And with the added weapons (call them bugs or cheats or whatever) and frequency of their use with so many top players these days makes such players extremely talented and difficult to beat. It's raised the bar it terms of what it takes to be a top tier player.

Hi guys, sorry for the off topic comment - I am not a Genesis guy, but is Carse really dead? When did this happen? I thought he was like the best Genesis player. I cannot find anything about this on the forum. Sad if true.
Personally, I was never very impressed with Carse, given the hype surrounding him. Although I do give him credit for GC abilities, he (IMO) was one-dimensional, often being effective with a superstar player (such as Bure), and skating it end to end with him. In addition, he avoided playing exis. To me, that came across as someone who knew his effectiveness would be diminished by having other players figure out his style. Knowing your enemy is half the battle. Those who can score in a multitude of ways and are more unpredictable will always be just as good, if not better players to me. Some of those people are current while others are formerly active.

Breathing life and crushing power into heavy but agile defenseman............long live the C-B check!
Raph seems to be the most dangerous with it as he'll throw a D-man at your that's not even in the screen while you think you're on a clean breakaway.

Thank you for all you do Ralph

It's the same deal...no new guys go into A. There was only one person since I've been helping in Classic that I ever thought could immediately start in A and that was TomKabs (you were a close 2nd Seth, ). And even then, he was put in B, after I made the plea he should not be in C!
***CLASSIC FLASHBACK***
2 years ago, Fall'12 season. TomKabs ended up going 34-6 in the regular season with Vancouver in the B league. Plabax made an incredible leap from "C" player the season before to legitimate "A", but was also in the B league that year. Those two guys led the way that season along with eggink and dcicon. The 4 of them were the only ones above .500 in the regular season.
Plabax and TK met in the finals where Plabax took it in a 7 game epic series. Allegedly this series was recorded, but TK was too depressed to ever upload or watch it, haha.
TomKabs ended up taking over the NYR in the "A" league from Dynamo, who won the B league the previous season, picked the NYR and was having a NIGHTMARE SEASON in A and dropped. TomKabs took the Rangers to the finals, losing to '94 legend Carse (VAN) in 7 games. TK also obliterated me that year in the playoffs, where I was MTL, and thought I wouldn't have a hard time winning against the fatty Rangers.
So while TK went 0-2 in 7 game series that year, it was still the most impressive "debut" ever for a rookie, lol.
***END FLASHBACK***
TK was a phenom. The most "complex" player I'd ever seen and thus the hardest to defend against IMO. Sad that he lives in the middle of nowhere. There was a time I was thinking he'd be back to rejuvenate the community, but I'm convinced he's gone for good and is quickly being forgotten. A shame.

Good to see old Dickon/Dickoff up in A. As long as you can remain somewhat normal it's a plus, hehe.
Snaking vs. Non-Snaking Draft

If we're speaking of changes, is it finally time to turn penalties off? Yes that lessens the B-check effectiveness somewhat, but with C/B available and C, it's something to think about. It will remove a lot LUCK from the game.
